great to see and as always variety feeding is so important. Locusts have a larger gut than smaller livefoods, so the transfer of live gut culture and Gutload is increased. In order to pass this on in a highly bioavailable way we now suggest that they are prefed and hydrated and heated for at least an hour to 32 degree. This then allows the transfer of the gut cultures. A species well worth including within variety feeding and especially good around the breeding months for both species. They are also a larger animal, less are required to fill the animal than smaller livefoods. For me, my go to foods are these locusts, brown house crickets, calciworms and soldier flies. Then morios and waxworms in smaller amounts during the month. I limit roach feeding due to the high level of P, but again, they are fine when measured within variety feeding. Good use of ReVitaliseD3, a nice light dusting.
Oh I just saw your comment and I had actually asked this in a seperate comment, but is there a specific formula to leopard gecko supplementation, ie x mcg of calcium per g of bodyweight or something of the sort? I hate guessing, of course the gutloaded amount is a variable in this but it would tremendously help to have a baseline to work with! I would really appreciate a reply back Also, I have been desperately trying to get my hands on the shade dweller and dhp (in the US) but every company that carries it is out of stock. I have emailed them all (yep I did that) asking if they had a rough approximate date on when it may be back in stock but the ones I've heard back from have not thus far had an answer. Do you have any insight as to when more shipments will be going to the US? And could you possibly give me some more retailer names that carry your products because all I'm looking at right now is reptilesupply, Josh's frogs, bio dude and pangea. Thanks!
How do you best gut load your insects please? I feed a single Leopard Gecko which we have owned for 3 months now and I keep a variety of foods for him inc locusts, dubia, morio and meal worms. I have been making sure they have food in the tubs I am keeping them in on a daily basis but the Retile Network article file I have just read recommends to split the food you intend to feed your reptile 12 hours before and then gut load and hydrate to the maximum. I am using the Arcadia insect fuel, bug gel for hydration plus a variety of veg which is all topped up and they are kept under the Viv. Is my method obtaining sufficient nutritional value to the insects or should I be feeding less often to make sure they are fully loaded before feeding to my Gecko. Many thanks.

I used to feed my Leo Tate (he passed away in april 2019) locust all the time as I dont like crickets and I find them more mean than the locust. my Leo loved them and found great fun in chasing them around all night!! Glad to see your Leo's enjoying the new food :))
I’m very glad you made this video!!! I think locust are so under rated!! I get my locust for my geckos and bearded dragon and they love them!!!! My Leopard Gecko actually prefers them over crickets💓I get mine from my local pet shop they are 3 packs for £5😊
I used to get mine in bags, locusts are my bearded dragons favourite since they are slower than crickets (they jump further but they don't scuttle about and hop like crickets, so my beardie and cresties find them easier to hunt!). I now buy a few tubs since she's on larger size, I go through 3 tubs of locusts and 3 tubs of crickets weekly among my animals. Hoping my future leopard gecko will like them too!
We've had our boy Gizmo for about a month and locusts are his favourite, it's great you can get them in different sizes to suit the age of your gecko .
Sooo cute! If you haven’t already, I think it would be so cool to set up a Facebook group that acts as a forum for all your fans to post photos, ask questions and help each other out? 😄
i feed locusts pretty frequently because my baby leo doesn't like crickets but absolutely loves locusts and as i've only got the one gecko i get a box of them and that along with mealworms will last me around a week but we have a pet shop really near by so we just go weekly to get them.
this is great to see somebody having a large enough enclosure for their gecko, you’re very enthusiastic about reptiles. I’m new to explore your channel and I see you have great experience. Aswell, I did see that Ziggy had passed, I very dearly am sorry. If you’re struggling, I read up that think your gecko climbing logs etc to get to a rainbow bridge. Where you’ll be waiting for them when you die. Anyways back to the reptile stuff; I use locusts for my 2 almost 1 year-old geckos. They enjoy them so much. I will absolutely agree with you, they are a nightmare with getting them out. I use tweezers, especially made for feeding reptiles and then either jump and their leg falls off. it also depends on what size your locusts are, I’m currently feeding mine medium. 3-8 weeks: 3-4 9-12 weeks: 5 maximum # medium 1y.o: (how much they can eat in an hour) #medium / large locusts 3y.o + : 4 #large / extra large locusts It also depends on the geckos personality if they are a massive foodie I would recommend these x
We feed Max our Leopard Gecko on Locusts and tend to buy a tub every few weeks as he is pretty good and is happy to eat Dubia's, meal, morio and wax worms so a really good variety.. He weighs 81g and tends to eat about 4 or 5 Locusts in a sitting and we buy the large locusts.
Thanks again for sharing. From research it appears that Locusts are not allowed as livefeeders in the US due to agricultural damage, however, they are apparently common in Europe and UK. On Wikipedia it states that "North America is currently the only continent besides Antarctica without a native locust species." en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Locust
These are what I feed my gecko mainly (she eats a lot more insect species because variation) since I find crickets so problematic. She loves them. They are more colourful so she can see them a bit easier. I offer 4 myself.
hey i weighed my leopard gecko recently and she is only 45grams and she didn't even lay any eggs or go off her food i was wondering if you would know any tips to help her gain weight without feeding a load of fatty foods like wax works
@@leopardgeckotalk yeah i gut load and dust her food ,she's 1 and a half years old now however i am changing her supplements to arcadia earth pro A and calcium pro mg because i was only using calcium with D3 and discovered with the LIFE SAVING help of your channel that thats not enough so hopefully the new supplements will help,Thank you.
I normally feed my gecko locusts rather than crickets, hes just not into crickets that much, I generally feed about 6 or 7 as that's usually all he wants, but I would say dont leave these in the tank overnight as they easily climb up the walls and ur gecko probs won't find them 😂, they can also be a bit, um, spikier than crickets so they might irritate the gecko if left in with them overnight or anything. Love the video, looking forward to the next one 😊. Also I tend to find locusts won't often eat much fruit and veg other than leaf-type vegetables
I buy either small/medium if they are eating or nymphs. I keep a heated tank to grow them on and as I have 8 geckos that eat live food its handy having different sizes of locust for each gecko
I offer my Leopard Gecko Morty locusts just to offer him more variety in his diet. I normally feed him 5 to 6 at a time (he is an adult male) I will tong feed him most of them and let him hunt to last few down. I do also have bearded dragons so any that get to big for him don’t go to waste. They work really well for me as Morty won’t eat marrio worms of meal worms so it is nice to offer him some variety. I also only have to buy food for one gecko so 1 tub lasts me a while.
My girl Freya is 6 months old, and she will generally take 4 locusts at a time - then during the night will eat about 5 mealworms out of her dish. I've never tried her on crickets, but she eats a rotating staple of mealworms, locusts, silkworms and roaches :)
Locusts are not common feeders here in the states, but I was able to get some at a reptile show right before we locked down for quarantine. Then I couldn't bring myself to feed them to my lizards either, because of their faces. (I have plenty of other feeder bugs at all times, so the geckos didn't go hungry.) I tried to breed the locusts, thinking if I had enough of them I wouldn't feel guilty for feeding them off, but they didn't breed for me and died after a few months. Ah well.
I like feeding locusts mainly because I think my lizards maybe get kinda bored of always eating the same stuff every day. I also once heard they are a bit more nutritious than crickets so I like to use them as a healthy treat instead of always switching to wax/meal/superworms. Another big bonus is that there is no way locusts will breed year round in your house and become a constant pest, except if you live in a warm climate. And lastly I feel like hunting them is a bit more challenging for the lizard than a regular cricket and thus provides more enrichment.
Lmao 🤣 I am so glad you said about the feeding them to your gecko and you can see their faces and don’t like it I say it little prayer 🙏 before I have to sacrifice them. Mine will only eat locusts and meal worms that’s it. Crickets annoy me because of the noise they make especially at night and I found they stink 😷 I find locusts pretty easy to look after bar winter it can get really cold here in the uk so a lot of them die in the first few days. And they are definitely more expensive I pay about £5.25p for 25 of them but there is usually about 30/34 of them. She will go through them in a fortnight but she doesn’t seem to put on much weight 🤔 She is a leopard gecko.
I don't like crickets too much, so my leopard gecko eats locust (4 per feeding usually). She eats 3 different type of bugs, so one tube of locust (size 3) is more or less perfect in quantity up untill they are too big to feed. They are still cool to observe after that though, grow really big, the wings developing fully etc.
One of my leopard geckos was very turned off by the long back legs of the crickets and would not eat them for about a month. Until I decided I would outsmart him. So I cut or pulled the biggest legs off the back of the crickets and now he takes the crickets every time! 😁 He is much healthier now as well. I had just got him so I was glad to have figured him out.😉
I tried locusts with my gecko (Gizmo, yes I have a Gizmo too!), he wasn't overly fussed by them and I didn't like the look of them in all honesty, they gave me the heeby jeebys!! 😂 Had a go with Dubia Roaches and he loves them, they are nice meaty snacks, are silent, odourless (unlike crickets!!) and they last for ages. They are rather expensive but I like to provide a varied diet, so always have roaches and crickets and occasionally waxworms as a treat. Love your videos, generally rely on you for advice and guidance on caring for my little Gizmo, thank you!!
What do you have them Locusts in? Mine go up in the box I put them in, they hang upside down on top of the lid. Hmmm... I have them in a plastic box. Yours look so calm. I don't know how to get them. Jumps a lot. They are not old or very big now. First time I have locusts. Do you have any advice for me?
Hey im so excited just bought a leopard gecko today im so excited your videos have helped me prepare so so much ive thought of some names ill have to tell you them but keep up the awesome vids (i bought a mack snow morph btw)
One of my geckos favorite food is locusts. Actually the breeder that sold her to me would buy baby locusts when she was baby especially for her. Now she is a massive girl and eats 2 adult locusts
Mine have been off all feeders but locusts for years! My female will only eat the XL ones for some reason so i have to remove the back legs and crush the heads for her , its grim but she LOVES them. I only give her one every other day/2 days since they're pretty big
Also if you house crickets with locust apparently the crickets turn into locust (I never tried) and when they legs in the air I think that means they're nearly molting, like how a t flips to molt
Can you please try to explain when to feed the calcium, calcium with D3, and multivitamin. I’m doing tons and tons of research and found you where most reliable. I want to make sure my leo lives the best life without MBD and all things like that :)
She actually has a video all about feeding and supplement schedules! Just search up "leopard gecko supplement schedule " on UA-cam and you should find what you're looking for :)
Usually for my leo I feed it 3 times then on the 4th feeding day I dust feeder insects with the calcium and multivitamins.. I mix both the powers then put the feeder insects in
Calcium without d3 most of the week, vitamins with d3 for 1 or 2 days per week. Everyone has a slightly different schedule with healthy geckos so don't worry too much about it being an exact science. As long as they get their calcium, vitamins, and d3 during the week you should be set.
Gingerblossom Oh yes! I have watched that, but she doesn’t explain when to use the D3 on the multivitamin. Or is the multivitamin considered the D3? In her description she says she uses 100% normal calcium, Calcium with D3, and a multivitamin. She doesn’t show in her example when she uses the D3
Hey another update on Elsa I moved her to her new tank with bio dude substrate and slate hides with the deep heat projector just last night so I'm excited to see what she does 😁....once again I wouldn't be here without you and with my first gecko being 13 so thank you 😃😃😃
Locust lift their hind legs because that's their passive resting state. I have leopards geckos also lemon(female) and lime(male) kids named them. Lemon just laid total 10 eggs one hatched named it Nemo.
Not sure if you'll see this, but I was looking when you were feeding Zig, and she seems to have a yellow spot on her right eye, in the back corner? Do you know what that is? My albino gecko has it too, and it's never changed shape (she's 5) or anything, so I'm not worried, but I don't know what it is.
Hi Rebecca, that was very interesting. I am wondering if it was the smell/taste of the vitamin supplement that actually did the trick?. I have just bought Repashy version and it smells very fruity and yummy. I tried Locusts once but everyone of my Geckos refused them and the pesky critters kept climbing up the tank walls or leaping away!!. The waxworm butt may work with Lilah my female Leo (she likes things that wiggle lol). My local shop always has a plentiful supply of Locust. May try getting a box again to see if I can achieve any feeding success. Lilah is my least picky eater of the four. She is laying eggs like clockwork, every 15 days, her fourth set is due today!
Please release an updated convincing your parents video! My mom is on the verge of getting me a leopard gecko and my dad need a bit of work!!!!! I love watching gecks eat :)
Thanks :) It's hard to say for sure because different parents have different reasons they don't want a leo, so you may have to pinpoint what he's against lol

I’m very glad you made this video!!! I think locust are so under rated!! I get my locust for my geckos and bearded dragon and they love them!!!! My Leopard Gecko actually prefers them over crickets💓I get mine from my local pet shop they are 3 packs for £5😊
Ah very nice!
THEY ARE THE CUTEST LIL THINGS
So excited
We've had our boy Gizmo for about a month and locusts are his favourite, it's great you can get them in different sizes to suit the age of your gecko .
Sooo cute! If you haven’t already, I think it would be so cool to set up a Facebook group that acts as a forum for all your fans to post photos, ask questions and help each other out? 😄
Ah maybe, I already have a fb page, but fb doesn't seem to get as much reach, I'm not sure if many people would join the forum lol
Leopard Gecko yeah that makes sense, UA-cam and Instagram are more powerful platforms and u rock them!! Thanks for replying🦎
my crested gecko passed away yesterday 🥺 i got 2 anoles though they are very cute
Domiiniic sorry to hear that
I'm soooo sorry Domiiniic
Aww I am so sr to hear that I had an anole before they are awesome
Sorry for your loss, loosing a pet is very hard.
😭😭😢
We love a Acardia surpporter
i feed locusts pretty frequently because my baby leo doesn't like crickets but absolutely loves locusts and as i've only got the one gecko i get a box of them and that along with mealworms will last me around a week but we have a pet shop really near by so we just go weekly to get them.
this is great to see somebody having a large enough enclosure for their gecko, you’re very enthusiastic about reptiles. I’m new to explore your channel and I see you have great experience. Aswell, I did see that Ziggy had passed, I very dearly am sorry. If you’re struggling, I read up that think your gecko climbing logs etc to get to a rainbow bridge. Where you’ll be waiting for them when you die.
Anyways back to the reptile stuff;
I use locusts for my 2 almost 1 year-old geckos. They enjoy them so much. I will absolutely agree with you, they are a nightmare with getting them out. I use tweezers, especially made for feeding reptiles and then either jump and their leg falls off. it also depends on what size your locusts are, I’m currently feeding mine medium.
3-8 weeks: 3-4
9-12 weeks: 5 maximum # medium
1y.o: (how much they can eat in an hour) #medium / large locusts
3y.o + : 4 #large / extra large locusts
It also depends on the geckos personality if they are a massive foodie I would recommend these x
3:25 locus: RUN 🦗💨💨💨💨💨💨💨

Naruto!!
haha yes
I didnt even see it running off until i watched that timestamp!
I definitely try those out and see if my gecko likes them!
Awesome, hope it goes as well as it went for me :)
omg!!!!! the editing is ooooon point!!!
On Wikipedia it states that "North America is currently the only continent besides Antarctica without a native locust species."
en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Locust
This is true, on the other hand, we are not allowed horned worms, which we would love over here :-) so its 6 and two 3s.
This video was so adorable! 😊
Lol I jump out of my skin when giz grabbed that grasshopper 😅
Omg I have to learn to watch all the vid .. Now mini you all chews up
Me and my leos love locust :) I'm looking forward to being able to get hold of new ones, as they are hard to come by here.
These are what I feed my gecko mainly (she eats a lot more insect species because variation) since I find crickets so problematic. She loves them. They are more colourful so she can see them a bit easier. I offer 4 myself.
Ah right so I got the number of locusts about right? :')
Maybe. I might have to check up on it though
I just got a juvenile leopard gecko and he is still not tame so i’m working on that but your videos help me a lot so thanks a bunch
Love your voice and info
So excited about the Locust Exo skeleton *Lol*
hey i weighed my leopard gecko recently and she is only 45grams and she didn't even lay any eggs or go off her food i was wondering if you would know any tips to help her gain weight without feeding a load of fatty foods like wax works
worms*
wax worms, morio worms and super worms are a good treat for once a week or so. But experiment different foods! do you feed mealworms?
Have you tried cickets or mealworms?
Make sure the food is gutloaded, and dusted. And make sure you're feeding enough. Some geckos are smaller than others. Is your gecko an adult?
@@leopardgeckotalk yeah i gut load and dust her food ,she's 1 and a half years old now however i am changing her supplements to arcadia earth pro A and calcium pro mg because i was only using calcium with D3 and discovered with the LIFE SAVING help of your channel that thats not enough so hopefully the new supplements will help,Thank you.
Is locusts More healthy than crickets for crested gecko? Should I give them for as treat instead of crickets?
I normally feed my gecko locusts rather than crickets, hes just not into crickets that much, I generally feed about 6 or 7 as that's usually all he wants, but I would say dont leave these in the tank overnight as they easily climb up the walls and ur gecko probs won't find them 😂, they can also be a bit, um, spikier than crickets so they might irritate the gecko if left in with them overnight or anything. Love the video, looking forward to the next one 😊. Also I tend to find locusts won't often eat much fruit and veg other than leaf-type vegetables
You: try a locust
Leopard geckos: *FINGERS*
Geeckw sho cute
My gecko does this too 😂😂😂 when it tries to bite your finger
Hi love your channel and I hope you, your family and your animals are doing well
And the put their back legs up to power their leg muscles
Thank you :) Aw that's cool :)
6:38 you go girl! 😂😂
My girl Freya is 6 months old, and she will generally take 4 locusts at a time - then during the night will eat about 5 mealworms out of her dish. I've never tried her on crickets, but she eats a rotating staple of mealworms, locusts, silkworms and roaches :)
Haha Cuties. My Leo, she tends to get my finger too lol
Ah well.
wow! we'll try with our geckos.. thanks for sharing :)
3:30 locust slowly starts his escape plan 😂
yeah 😂
I like feeding locusts mainly because I think my lizards maybe get kinda bored of always eating the same stuff every day. I also once heard they are a bit more nutritious than crickets so I like to use them as a healthy treat instead of always switching to wax/meal/superworms. Another big bonus is that there is no way locusts will breed year round in your house and become a constant pest, except if you live in a warm climate. And lastly I feel like hunting them is a bit more challenging for the lizard than a regular cricket and thus provides more enrichment.
Haha Love their little faces ♡♡
Your reactions are hilarious 😂😆😆😂😂
thanks 😂
Do you add calcium when you dust insects?
One of my leopard geckos was very turned off by the long back legs of the crickets and would not eat them for about a month. Until I decided I would outsmart him. So I cut or pulled the biggest legs off the back of the crickets and now he takes the crickets every time! 😁 He is much healthier now as well. I had just got him so I was glad to have figured him out.😉
I tried locusts with my gecko (Gizmo, yes I have a Gizmo too!), he wasn't overly fussed by them and I didn't like the look of them in all honesty, they gave me the heeby jeebys!! 😂
Had a go with Dubia Roaches and he loves them, they are nice meaty snacks, are silent, odourless (unlike crickets!!) and they last for ages.
When she put that locust in front of the camera I was like oh heck no not today
Hey another update on Elsa I moved her to her new tank with bio dude substrate and slate hides with the deep heat projector just last night so I'm excited to see what she does 😁....once again I wouldn't be here without you and with my first gecko being 13 so thank you 😃😃😃
Aw that's brilliant to hear :) hope she settles in nicely :)
Bio dude?
But I love ur vids because when I get A Leopard gecko can take care of it correctly
huuu they're so adorable!
Can you make a video on how to convince your parents x Bcuz I have pages of info and have done so much research but I jsut can’t convince them.
My gecko goes mad for food! I can get him to walk along my arm for one cricket, it’s quite fun
Where do you but your crickets? And how do you keep them alive for so long
Locust lift their hind legs because that's their passive resting state.
I use grasshoppers 🦗 and my leooardgecko winny likes them more than crickets
She is laying eggs like clockwork, every 15 days, her fourth set is due today!
do they bite? and safe to pick up?
Please release an updated convincing your parents video! My mom is on the verge of getting me a leopard gecko and my dad need a bit of work!!!!!
I love watching gecks eat :)
Thanks :) It's hard to say for sure because different parents have different reasons they don't want a leo, so you may have to pinpoint what he's against lol
@@leopardgeckotalk Mainly the keeping a "wild animal in a cage " part, ive done my best to sort of curve his thought and it has worked but not enough.
I like your videos and your geckos 😁
the finger chomps had me dead XD
😂😂
