    Hi! Thank you for sharing all your experience and wisdom in how to best provide a enriching and safe environment for your leopard geckos. I have implemented many recommendations you have given! Would you be able to do a video about how you are able to manage all the costs of caring for your animals? like previous or current jobs you had, or things you did to make side money? I am very curious because I am always looking for ways to improve my setup and husbandry, and I might be spending more than necessary because I like to change things up from time to time. Thank you!

    Pls help and answer me question how long can a gecko dont eat when he just shed?

    • @fionashepley478
      @fionashepley478 5 років тому

      A few days maximum. If they go longer than that there might be something wrong with their care or they may be sick (especially if they’re losing weight).

    I have a question umm do geckos need moss or no and also another one is that can geckos live in 70 degree temp or does it need to be hotter can any one inform me please

    • @6strings735
      @6strings735 5 років тому

      Leopard geckos need a basking area (floor heat) of 85 to 90 deg. The ambient air temperature can be 70 as long as the gecko has a nice tight warm area that is a bit humid, so sphagnum moss is really good for that. You can use other things in the warm, humid hide, but the good sphagnum (the ZooMed New Zealand moss or the Bio Dude moss) works really well and is not messy. Ideally, the ambient air should be 75-80 deg.

    • @sawyerk175
      @sawyerk175 5 років тому +6

      If a crestie is very ill, you can give it some certain soy yogurt to help get some beneficial bacteria in its system. You shouldn't feed healthy cresties yogurt, though, especially if it's dairy yogurt! Reptiles don't receive milk from their mother so they're very, very intolerant to it ^^

    Please respond thx

    • @fionashepley478
      @fionashepley478 5 років тому +1

      She uses deep heat projectors instead of heat mats, as well as UVB lighting. You can use a heat mat, ceramic heat emitter, or (best option) deep heat projector. Or a combination of a heat mat and overhead heating. Overhead heating is more beneficial but more complicated to setup properly. The warm hide should be made of slate or another heat conducting material. It should get to 90 inside (measured by a digital thermometer) but not too hot on top.

      @leopardgeckotalk  5 років тому

      It doesn't always happen. Usually if you have one female it won't happen. I think because I have more than one, they sort of trigger each other to ovulate, and eventually lay eggs. Gizmo laid her first when she was 6, whereas Ziggy was younger.

    Thanks so much for the great content! You’ve helped my leopard gecko be comfortable and healthy. But, a freind of mine who has a leopard gecko about 6 months old and she only feeds it once a week and wants to keep it on sand knowing the risk of impaction because it’s easier for her. The last time I saw her gecko it was so skinny I was surprised it was still alive. Do you have any videos I can send her to help her gecko out? Or anyone else, have any ideas of what I can say to her?

    • @fionashepley478
      @fionashepley478 5 років тому +1

      Tell her at six months they should be fed every other day. You can ask why sand is “easier” for her. There are loads of substrates that are just as easy or easier than sand. And she shouldn’t be just thinking about what’s most convenient for her, she should be considering the wellbeing of her gecko. Now, sand can be used relatively safely if the rest of the gecko’s care is on point (unless it’s calcium sand, which is terrible), but if the gecko’s care is incorrect the sand can kill them, especially a younger gecko. There are loads of better options: Paper towel, non-adhesive shelf liner, or textured tile are all good solids. It’s best to offer digging enrichment with reptisoil, organic top soil, or a bioactive substrate. You could do full loose, half and half, or full solid with a dig box.
      Hope this helps, good luck!

    • @TheSquishy_Penguin
      @TheSquishy_Penguin 5 років тому

      Hi Jonah! How old is your new Leopard Gecko? General rule of thumb, when getting a new reptile, don't try to handle them for about 2 weeks. They need time to adjust to their new surroundings and will be naturally very fearful. It's likely your little gecko is just scared. If the biting isn't a fear response then it's probably a prey response, Geckos seem to be very good at mistaking fingers for food! If the gecko is a young one, its going to be much more scared than an older gecko too. Give it time to settle in and feel safe in its home, then give taming another go.

    So I just recently rescued a juvenile leopard gecko and I’m having some trouble taking him. I’ve had him for a little over a week and he won’t let me hand feed him, and will run away from my hand and seems skiddish when I try to scoop him. Anyone have tips on how I can get him to trust me? I try to hold him everyday to get him used to it

    Easiest way to fatten up a tail for me is to feed some wax worms. Just be sure not feed them only wax worms. They would get overweight if they were only on them. A couple feedings of wax worms should give the gecko enough fats to bulk up the tail. I just recently did this with one of my females who laid some eggs (they were infertile unfortunately) but didn't want to eat after a couple weeks past laying.

    I have had my Leo for 5 months now, and he has only shed twice. I have only found on piece of shed, and I’m afraid that he is unhealthy. Is this normal?

    Is that a combo hide with ramp to a water dish that dawn has in her terrarium? If so I'd love to know where that's from, that is awesome! I'll have to look into maybe making one, I'm not sure that water based polyurethane would be safe to use with food/water dishes though... is there a sealant that is safe for food/water dishes?

    My Leo used to eat crickets but one day during feeding one jumped right onto his eye and since then he is scared of them. Is there any way to help him overcome that? He’s only eating mealworms now but I want him eat something more nutritious

    My leopard gecko is the sweetest little thing. She is also terrible at hunting. She eventually catches the crickets but it takes her some time she will try to eat them even if they are a foot away. Her tail is a little bit thin but its still fairly chubby.

    I know I’m late but I’m updating my leopard geckos tank and I’m trying to figure out what substrate I should use. Is it okay to use tile?

    • @fionashepley478
      @fionashepley478 5 років тому +1

      Yes, it’s ok to use textured tile. although it’s best to offer digging enrichment by using reptisoil, organic top soil, or a bioactive substrate for at least part of the substrate. Tile doesn’t always work well with heat mats either. You can look into using a ceramic heat emitter or deep heat projector

    • @disturbedcookies8141
      @disturbedcookies8141 5 років тому

      Fiona Shepley Thank you! I’ve tested the heat mat with the tile and it works pretty well. Do you think it would be okay if I did half tile, half digging substrate? I was originally going to do this but the gecko that I got ended up being very young so I had to change it.
