    I'm in Y12, wanting to change all of my A-levels from English Lit, Sociology and Philosophy to: Physics, Maths and Chemistry. This means restarting Y12 and resitting GCSE maths.
    My school strongly advised against this (understandably), but I decide my future, and I have always wanted to do Aerospace engineering in an apprenticeship after Y13.
    How did this happen? Firstly, I chose English etc. because I did not meet the Maths grade needed to take science. Unfortunately, I did not distribute revision time evenly with the sciences and Maths. I had a natural aptitude for Maths, so i thought I could get on fine.
    I thought that I could somehow force myself to love English, Sociology and Philosophy and that I would end up doing Law in university. But, I hated the essay dense homework, although I am a hard worker- it's just not my passion.
    So, yeah. I screwed up. But can my sixth-form really force me to continue with my current A-levels? I'd be incredibly unhappy with my future job!
    Stay safe everyone! :)

      +Alexander Hoekema honestly, unis accept BTECs and A levels. For later life I think a levels are more employable (from what I've heard from adults I know who employ)
      If you're likely to study anything performing wise and you prefer performing to academics I don't see why you shouldn't do that! I would pick whatever you will prefer doing for 2 years, but I would also talk to a teacher or something because those 2 options are quite different! Unless I'm getting mixed up and you're swapping 1 a level for a BTEC in which case do that!x

    i live in scotland and am doing national 5s (similar to GCSEs) but next year i have to choose 5 subjects for higher. i really enjoy maths and sciences and get the best grades in them. i probably want to do something when I'm older to do with maths or sciences. i really don't enjoy english and although most universities in scotland say you don't need it they often choose people who take an essay based subject over someone who doesn't take one. i'm not as good at english as other subject and usually only just get an a. i don't take any other essay based subjects so unless i crash history or something similar then i can't take one (i don't really want to do this). i really like to achieve and I'm quite scared if failure and i think i can get an a in english at the moment but I'm not sure i will be able to in the future. i'm not afraid of revising but i feels though its much harder to put in the extra work for english. it would be much better for me to get 5 As and not be taking english than have a b and take english so I'm not sure what to do. i also really don't want to put myself through a year of ding something i don't enjoy at all. please send your advice (BTW we only have one english subject in scotland not english language and literature)

      I don't know much about the Scottish system but in my opinion it's always better to do what you enjoy and what you feel comfortable in unless you absolutely HAVE to take a subject e.g. chemistry and medicine. So I say don't take english, it doesn't sound worth it to me, and focus on doing great in the other subjects! Good luck x

And what might you want to do in the future because I think history of art is seen as academic! As is most forms of drama x

    U did chem right? I got an A* at GCSE but compared to my other three subjects I feel unstable almost in it. I don't want to pursue it if I'm gonn end up getting a lower grade in it and also there's a lot of applied maths and I'm not strong in maths. I could swap for geography which I really like but then idk if biology and chem are good to keep my options open, even though I probably won't go into science x

    • @NooStenningVideos
      @NooStenningVideos  3 роки тому

      That's definitely a good combo as they all fit nicely together, I would say (and take this with a pinch of salt) that some schools say that Sociology and even Psychology are quite "soft subjects" which may mean nothing but in general they recommend taking one more core one like English, Maths, Science, History etc as they're apparently better viewed by unis? If you go onto a uni website for a couple of courses you're interested in you can see their requirements so that may help x

    Hi so I was thinking of taking biology a level but my teachers said that if I wasn’t going to take it with something such as chemistry or maths, I might as well take the applied science which isn’t a proper a level. I reckon as long as you got a 6/7/8/9 at GCSE and you're willing to work hard you could do chemistry as long as you enjoy it! But I would always take Biology over applied science, it doesn't matter if it doesnt "go" its a great subject and very well recognised for the skills it gives you xx

    I have a dilemma! I love maths and want to do both maths and further maths along with psychology for a level. However I want to go onto do psychology at university and although I can get into quite a lot of university with these a levels there are more universities that I could get into if I do a science and I would do this as opposed to further maths. I would do physics most likely. It’s really annoying because I want to do further maths but I don’t want to narrow my options.

      Probably whatever interests you most/you might think about combining with one of the others for future study if that’s what you want? Economics is probably best regarded out of those (sad but true that there’s still stereotypes on subjects) but it doesn’t matter that much as long as you meet entry requirements for whatever you might want to do after- do whichever you’ll enjoy most probably
