Interesting to note Kurt Wolff and his fellow Jasta 11 pilot didn't even start scoring until von Richtofen took command of the squadron. Really says something about Richtofen's extraordinary leadership abilities. Voss of course was just a natural born flier, the greatest pilot of the war.

Brown didn't shoot him, it was Cedric Popkin, an australian gunner on the ground.

Yeah but most likely Popkin, the right man in the right place.

I enjoyed the film, the aircraft were more authentic. The Sheen plywood on the Albotross and the actual rotary engines on the Fokkers that spun in the cowlings to Voss' sky-blue tri-plane streaked in dark green (I assembled a model of it 40 years ago). I had hoped they would have detailed Voss' last fight when he took on I believe 7 SE-5s at once, putting bullets into each plane.

Interesting that the Baron’s two best friends, Voss and Wolff were both Jewish. Obviously it did not matter to von Richthofen. A man was a man regardless of his birth in the first world war.A lesson to take to heart.

@TheLloydA1 What I have read about Mannock he was a cool guy, gave alot of his kills to the rookies. Over here they are starting to give William Barker his recognician as Canada's most decorated war hero.

IMO Bishop was full of bullsh*t! Made up his own combat report that got him the VC, and 25 of his victories cannot be substantiated in any records.

Nice vid, thank you for those photos but i think Voss had 48 shotdowns. I think he added 2 of them in his last fight against 8 british pilots.

@mckessa Shame Edward Mannock did not get a chance he had 61 confirmed kills with 73 reputed kills.he would give away his kills to other pilots sometimes.

@mckessa17 No, the best evidence suggests it was in fact the Australians. As a NZer this isn't easy for me to say, but it's almost certainly the case. There is a very good study available online. Just Google it and you'll find it easily enough. Ultimately it doesn't really matter who killed him. Just another tragic death in a terribly tragic conflict.
