film likely shot sept 3 1917 on occasion of MVRs 61st victory. Lt Algernon F Bird 46th sq. in his Sopwith pup #B1795 shot down @ 7:35 am. this is MVRs 1st victory in a triplane. The plane F1-102/17 was destroyed on the afternoon of the 15th (17:30hrs) when Oberlt Kurt Wolff was shot down and killed. The f1-102/17 was one of the prototypes of what would become the Fok Dr-1. F1/103/17 was destroyed on the 28th @ 19:35 hrs when Werner Voss was shot down and killed he crashed at Plum Farm.
What wonderful footage! The young pilots all very light hearted during the pre-flight briefing. The Baron getting on his flying gear, while the mechanics prep the plane. Settling into the cockpit and making himself comfortable, while two guys hold the tail down. A quick take off and later inspecting a shot down British plane and then having some friendly banter with a relieved looking Lt Bird. Film like this really brings home the fact that these were real young men, living in a real time.
☠BLACK BARON☠ For himself, it was never about the one man show ... it was about all the "AirComrades" around him he could always trust. Comrades make a teamwork. Comrades. At least in WWI we had still some manners, ethics and some moral behaviour in Air Combats ... compared to nowadays with no rules at all, no ethics at all, lots of lies and propaganda crap.
Thank you for this awesome amazing footage. At 5:09 and the next episode there is a man looking very much like Anthony Fokker himself, the one in the long coat and flying helmet with goggles on
He was injured some months before. Hit by a bullet on the top of his scull. It’s a bandage as the wound was not healing well. I have read that Dr’s had been removing small fragment of skull bone. He suffered constant headaches and some think tunnel vision after he was wounded.
Great footage. I wonder how many private collections out there have his gloves, goggles etc, he was wearing that day. Those items will be passed from generation to generation
Yes, that is clearly a British uniform of the RFC (Royal Flying Corps) or (starting from 1918) the RAF (Royal Air Force). During WW 2, these wings on the uniforms looked similar, so you can easily recognize the British pilots in any movie (also in motion pictures made for cinema).
Poor quality, colours changing all the time and some frames out of focus. Hard to see how this was made in 1934 for educational purposes, more like propaganda. :-)
you should have seen the original it was super bad. they did make it in 1934 but still using 1917 footage, but I would have to agree it was probably used for propaganda during those years.
I love how the footage has been slowed from the original to show him moving at normal speed. This is amazing. Thank you for sharing ❤

I didn't notice it but that's a good catch the resemblance is uncanny.
Very Observant, it was!! I have seen this same film in Black and white many many times! The Baron was a hero of mine as a little boy!!
@@minyaksayur Yes it is definately Tony Fokker
@@ricardocorbie6803 Mine too. Still is
@@brianwilcox3478 Yessssss and still ‼️‼️
Great video..
Anyone know what the strap was he is wearing? Thought it was chin strap of his hat at first, but it was still there when he took off his hat.

At the 2.08 mark, MvR removes his hat, but the "chinstrap" is NOT a part of the hat - but is a separate item, which goes right over his head! Why?
I think that is his brother at 3:28
Yeah I think so too, it looks like him.
Yeah, that appears to me so. And the man on the left looks like young Herman Göring
@@Trigahappymore Yes on the right, on the left is Goring and Bruno loerzer

Was that a captured Brit to the left of Richthofen @5:39? I didn't realize the German's wore those wings on their uniforms?
Yes. Those were Brit wings.
@@oscargrouch7962 Yes ,LT. Algernon F Bird MVRs 61st victory

Is that Herrmann Goering in the middle of the Squad meeting ?
it's toward the end of the video, wearing a white uniform.
@@minyaksayur yes thanks!
Does anyone know who is the British/Commonwealth pilot towards the end of the video?
Lieutenant Algernon Frederick Bird, September 3, 1917, 61st victim.
@@oscargrouch7962 thank you.
MVR was on leave ,that is why Wolff was flying f1-102/17 on the 15th
Cool :-)
Para mí fue el mejor piloto de la primera guerra mundial
The legend will arise
What Have We Become? You don't see any green or blue hair or even one earring in this film..
Truly my hero. Respect his courage very much.
Aí sim em colorido

Trying to spot Göring in that bunch, but he wasn't fat back then.
he wore a white uniform, it's toward the end of the video.
@@minyaksayur Got it, thanks.
He died way to young
