    Unironically, the sandman would be a pretty decent side grade to the wrap assassin if the baseball did 45 damage by default. You'd have less health, but the projectile deals all it's damage in one hit where the wrap assassin doesn't diminish your health but the projectile only deals it's full damage overtime giving the enemy more time to run to a health pack and undo the potential full duration of the bleed.

      ​​@@CyborgCharlotteell here's the catch, at a certain distance, the wrap assassin have guaranteed critical hits, meaning if you're able to practice with the projectile which isn't that hard as it's the fastest projectile, you'll technically do more damage than the sandman

      I know VALVe probably will never do this, but they could release small patches to specific weapons that rebalance them so that they're actually useful, but don't completely overhaul them

      I think it ought to be no ball random critical hits but you also boost the damage of baseballs by 3 so they're effectively dealing the same damage as crits anyways. You don't need to use a glitch to pull off the Sandman damage output.

    Fun Fact: The Sandman is actually viable in MVM. For 500 credits it is basically a straight upgrade from the Fan o War (Because the Sandman is glitched and it also marks for death on a normal hit instead of just the ball).

      Moonshots on mvm robots still kinda works. It won't disable them but they will stop walking, including giants.

      @@Ultra289 Well it reuses the exact same effect that allows the Fan O'War to mark so the devs should have known. Probably just a case of Valve rushing something out and forgetting about it.

      @@pickly4747 I think it'd just be an amazing side-grade to the Wrap Assassin. I don't know who proposed this idea - maybe it was Great Blue - but, ideally, the Sandman could give you higher immediate damage, and the Wrap Assassin could give you higher sustained damage, thanks to the bleeding.

    One change I would like to see done to the sandman is changing the -15 health with something like a 25% damage vulnerability while active
    more risky to pull out in a fight or try and throw it into the choke, but doesn't passively reduce your survivability should you have the sense to not pull it out while actively taking fire

      @@lambsauce5312 It would be if it was always active, but if a soldier is close enough to pose that threat, you probably shouldn't have your melee out. Sandman is one of those weapons that you pull out only when the ball is ready and you put away as soon as you hit your ball. If you take 100 damage in that short window of time, that's your own fault

    it would be cool if the ball acted as a kind of "snap out of it" mechanic where you could hit teammates with milk or jarate or another debuff, and they would lose it. or maybe it could even stop charging enemy demos

      could have sworn sandman balls could counter demoknights somewhat with the slowdown affecting the speed of the charge, albeit more effective if they are closer to the end of their charge or smth to save you from getting your head chopped.
      but again, super situational as you'd have to predict the charge ahead of time to hit the ball fast enough and connect.

    Ironically The Sandman wasn’t busted because of its own stats, but the stats of the Guillotine. All they needed to really do was remove the “Crits against stunned players” stat and we’d be fine. Getting stunned is annoying. Getting stunned then insta killed from mid to longe range by a SCOUT is infuriating
    I’ve played on a few custom servers where they’ve tweaked weapon balancing to have old Sandman and current Flying Guillotine….and it actually works pretty well 😅

      Maybe I'm misremembering but I recall Valve saying they removed it because they wanted to remove stun mechanics from TF2 because they're unfun to fight against. Which, remembering the old sandman, I can attest to. Being confronted by a scout, him hitting you with the ball mean you arent able to do ANYTHING but strafe for a few seconds wasn't fun to fight against.

      @@shads3955 I feel like most people blew it out of proportion. Nobody complained until Soundsmith made a video crying about it. Then the Soundsmith Stans came in full force harassing Valve to nerf the sandman. Valve nerfs it into an early grave and then leaves the game as is for, now, nearly 6 goddamn years. It used to be my favourite weapon, and arguably yes, it was annoying to play against to some capacity. But I can name off the top of my head 10 straight things that are more annoying to play against than the old sandman that don't have anywhere near the hate train the sandman once had before it was nerfed. The reason why? They're not actually OP. Much the same as the sandman wasn't OP on its own, just annoying.

      Just make it stun fully again. TF2 was built on fun, quirky mechanics. Why should the sandman be called "overpowered" for a quirky mechanic that, without the cleaver combo, was a direct detriment to use most of the time; when you have flying demomen with shields, soldiers who can instakill most classes just by being airborne, random crits, irradiated drink invulnerability, double jumps, rocket jumps, sticky jumps, all kinds of jumps, and all other kinds of things. The sandman made Scout feel unique. It was solely HIS mechanic that no other class had. Now it's gone, and the sandman is the sadman. Great job Valve.

      For the wrap assassin too. There is nothing more satisfying than hitting a wrappie on a Pigro that was puff-and-stinging you and then finishing it with a cleaver which deals JUST enough damage to finish them off. Budget cleaver combo that way.
      And plus, Scouts deserve it anyway. If Pyros can kill you near-instantly with a single puff of flame followed by a flare, then you should be able to kill them with JUST enough damage to do so.

    Despite the WA having a faster cooldown for its "ball", it can steal other scouts' Sandman Balls.
    So you may not be able to pickup the shattered bauble, but you can sure pick up the Ball from the Sandman.

    I like this. Without mentioning the weird set up time it adds more skill expression but forcing you to time a swing and a ball on top of your usual aiming, and makes one of the most disrespected melees get back in the spotlight

    this should be how the sandman works, not an increased damage, but that the ball always crits. the wrap assassin has the damage over time, explosive radius and a faster charge speed, so i think it would still have a purpose even with a buffed sandman. that said, i'd still like to see how annoying this could end up as, it might become like a scorch shot for scout.

    They should implement this as an actual mechanic, deals guaranteed critical damage at long distances and mini crits at medium distances.
    Also, something I thought about and think would be pretty neat, what if the ball could bounce from one enemy to another nearby enemy? Like in Dead Rising 2.
    For every kill you get with the ball, one "bounce" is added, so if you killed 3 people with the ball and you throw it at an enemy, it will hit 3 more players before failling to the ground provided they're within range.

    honestly, this could and probably should very much be what the Sandman does by default
    just make the ball deal like 35 or 40 damage and replace the health penalty with maybe a 15% damage vulnerability while deployed and suddenly it becomes one of Scout's better melee options

    The only place where The Sandman truly shines is in Medieval Mode, so you have a decent projectile to use to start a fight, leaving your victim vulnerable for a few finishing hits. Or to just help your teammates from a distance. This in combination with the Mad Milk can be a deadly combo. The Wrap Assassin can do that too, but the low damage guarantees that you will lose every one on one fight. Plus, the lower health from The Sandman really isn’t that much of an issue, you’re gonna die from two Demoknight swings anyway. So yeah, The Sandman is the best choice for Medieval Mode.

    the sandman is pretty much just a reskin to me, and Weapon Reskins in TF2 have always seemed like a strange case to me. On one hand if you like how a weapon works but hate how it looks it's nice to have another option to choose from. But on the other hand, reskins usually look like they would function differently from their counterpart. And I've always thought it would be neat if cool looking weapons like the maul had more of an identity than "Its the Homewrecker but for rich people"

    It's always so funny hearing that The Wrap Assassin is just a straight upgrade to the Sandman because I remember using it back in the day when it was just considered a bad weapon. That's how gutted the modern Sandman is lmao. At least this looks like a fun way to play with the Sandman and the balls doing 45 damage is... Actually a pretty decent trade for the max health

    Here's what I think should be the buff for the Sandman
    It should deal 45 damage at any range except for Moon Shot range, in which it would do 70 damage. The slowness effect should also be buffed, slowing them down to about 60% Speed, or 180 hu/s.

      I honestly prefer if the Sandman ball 100% crits, because if you made a sandman ball base damage 45 then random crit ball would be 135 damage. Think about the consequences of your actions.

    Also a not well known fact, wrap assasin has guaranteed crits on moonshots and that actually works on servers without random crits.

    I think changing the health penalty to a specific damage vulnerability would make the sandman good while still being balanced

    If Valve "patches" this bug by giving the ball a 100% random crit rate, then that would be perfect IMO. But really Valve should fix this for the wrap assassin that's kinda busted

    I’d say ‘base damage of the ball is 30, takes 30% longer to recharge, and reduces secondary cooldown time by 20%, but at the cost of 25 max health. Moonshots are guaranteed crits’

    Sandman rework idea I've had for a while:
    + Alt-Fire: launch a baseball that deals critical damage on headshots
    + Landing a headshot with a baseball grants a "Strike!"
    - 35% slower holster speed
    - 20% slower swing speed
    Swing batta batta! Launch a baseball at enemies that deals critical damage and grants up to 3 Strikes! on headshots. Swinging your melee will consume a Strike! and deal a garunteed Critical Hit.

    What if the Sandman had a charge type meter gained by damage, which would allow him to hit back projectiles kind of like… an air blast? I’m sure there’s ways of balancing it, maybe making it require a lot of damage which already demands scout put himself at fair risk, or requiring it to be damage done with the sandman. But given its classic baseball bat look I feel it’s kind of on theme.

    The sandman can really be great when used to help team mates. Slowing down an important target from safety to make him easier to kill is greatly under rated

    And the worst part is the Wrap Assassin doesn't even need the glitch because it can already crit by itself. The good news is Valve might give that stat to the Sandman as well at some point.

    Always wanted the ball to do damage. A man throwing a ball at you over and over shouldn't just slow you down! Also always wanted a reason to look for the ball, with this I'd know if I find it I could get value out of it right then!

    Hey, the sandman is great! I use it, and it's great for charging Demoknights, classes that get the melee out to bludgeon you with said melee, and Pyro's with their precious flamethrowers. Also great for MvM! In my opinion, a underrated weapon.

    Honestly, I feel the same way about R8 revolver from very little known game CS:GO.
    It was once broken just for two days, gor nerfed and then people NEVER used it again because no one understands how to use it even though it's actually good and in a lot of ways better than the other weapon in the same slit.

    This is what they should do to make it into the game if you get 75 damage any way possible you get a guaranteed crit on the ball and instead of 15 less damage 15 bullet damage because scout is the most mobile class in the game so he could get out of sight easier and that is how I would fix the sand man

      I really like this idea. Having the ball's damage scale based on dealt damage could make it an excellent finisher/engagement tool.
      Only able to deal ~200 damage to that overhealed soldier? Pop him with the ball. Just finish a fight, but another enemy catches you off-guard? Even the odds with a 45-damage opener.

    On hit: Randomly change the sensitivity of the player for the duration of the stun (Up to 5 seconds), players being healed get reduced stun
    Applies Bonk! effect for 3 seconds on moonshot, but only if the moonshot hits the head (Also can't moonshot ubered player ofc), effect can also be reduced by healing.
    That would save the sandman fun in my opinion, AND would keep the whole "give your enemy a concussion via baseball to the head" theme.

      Tf2c did something similar with the sensitivity change on the tranquilizer gun but it ended up being so annoying it got nerfed.

      I'd rather it aggressively shake the screen for like half a second instead of a sensitivity change. Although that probably wouldn't be fun for some people.

      @@kking1173 That would probably cause a lot of motion sickness, but to fair so would be changing your mouse sensitivity, another idea I had was fully returning the bonk effect, but with an added small speed boost (like 5% to 10% boost on hit, maybe less or more to some classes), so when Bonked you are given a movement advantage in exchange of not being able to attack for a few seconds, so the Scout has to actually be good at aiming to get the kill, making the sandmann a higher risk weapon than it was before, of course I haven't tested any of the changes I've suggested so I can't say really say it would be fun or not lol.
