Thanks for the upload! I was there that night on a school trip.
Absolutely incredible atmosphere for a friendly now its laughable at Wembley unless it's a tournament , walking out at that tunnel with all those banners flags scarves just amazing, I love these matches well done for all the great uploads
Trevor Francis imo was one of the best crosses of a ball England had during his time - problem was he couldn't be on the end of em as well .
Looking at the England team and subs for this game, it is interesting to note how Ron Greenwood got some consistent team selection, something that Don Revie failed to do. Of the 13 players that played in this game, eight went to Spain four years later, the five that didn't: Hughes, Watson, Barnes & the 2 subs Greenhoff and Currie.
Watson was 36 by then. Hughes was 35.
Don Revie was the complete opposite!
Greenwood by the time of the 1981 home qualifier against Hungary had used 50 players in his various squads..
thank you so much
Another excellent upload keep em coming m8
Great game by England! Thanks, mate!
@Gunter Netzer Obviously, you know very little about real football. Did you ever play in any real competitions? Even for your high school or university? Des Walker was a phenomenal centre back as were Sol Campbell and Rio Ferdinand. The latter two were voted the best centrebacks at the 2002 World Cup despite England crashing out in the QF. Gary Pallister and Terry Butcher were hugely underrated as were fullbacks Kenny Sansom, Gary Neville, and Ashley Cole.
No doubt that Dave Watson was a terrific world class defender but there have been others since then. Cole was exceptional on the left flank and is probably England's best ever full back. Super fast, tigerish in tackle, exceptional positioning, great reading of the game, excellent end product with pinpoint passes, croasses, and goals.
Another save for tomorrow when offspring is back at school...cheers duckjive 🍻
Well almost the whole game.A good solid performance from England and deserving winners.🐻🤗👍
Love the comment about Wilkens having the head of a 31 year old ... I have the body of an Olympic athlete, he will be furious when he see's what I've done to it . Another great upload much appreciated
England looking good at times during the early Ron Greenwood reign but you can see why Hungary got walloped in Argentina. The wayward Torocsik & Nyilasi were skilful dribbling and coming forward but tended to run into blind alleys and were too casual with the final pass and shot.
Had England got to Argentina it would have been interesting to see how they got on.Quaterfinals and no further i suspect.🐻🤗👍
Played at a better tempo than today’s game with quicker passes. Shame the ball skill isn’t quite as good.
Poor old Hungary at Wembley in 1978.
They were going to the World Cup unlike us. They had half a week of being compared to the great Hungarian side of the early-to-mid 50s.
It really was a lot to live up to.
They produced 90 minutes of mediocrity on the pitch.
After that, their World Cup did not end well.
I also remember: England vs Hungary 3:6 --- Hungary vs England 7:1 --- England vs Hungary 0:4 🙂🤣😅😂😁😄😜🤪😝
