By coincidence I find this on the day Leighton James passed away, 19 April 2024. As an England and Hereford fan, I saw James play at first hand a good number of times in 70s and 80s, both for Wales and especially clubs Burnley and Swansea. A great old fashioned winger, RIP.
My mate had the Wales kit and it was beautiful. Admiral kits were the greatest. There is an absolutely brilliant Documentary about the Admiral Company who were based in Leicester. Real pioneers of Football kit design.
@@duckjive1 I recall he left Zoff for dead with a left footed drive against Italy in Euro 80 that hit the crossbar..sad news though he had suffered for decades with Parkinsons..
To be fair he was getting a settled side in 1975, but he suffered a fair few injuries to key players. Gerry Francis, Colin Bell, Kevin Beattie, Roy McFarland etc. Admittedly it was baffling how he ended Alan Ball’s career prematurely and, also, his treatment of Alan Hudson who looked truly World Class in 1975
Hourray, thanks so much- what a happy memory, i was there aged 16 behind the goal where the winner was scored. This was the year after Wales were the sole British nation in the last 8 of the European championship/Euros. Later in 77 heartbreak for Wales, with Scotland's Joe Jordan's infamous handball in the Welsh penalty area for which the ref gave Scotland a penalty and Wales were ko'd from world cup qualifying.
I was there as a 7 year old in my England kit as I was born and we lived in London with my Welsh dad who celebrated and this bloke turned round at full time and said I would get your mum to lock him out tonight son, my dad quick as a flash said his mum is Welsh too 😂😂😂
England and Wales sporting snazzy Admiral kits.Admiral produced some great kits in the 70s and 80s.Apparently the Coventry City ‘CHOCOLATE ‘ away kit is worth a few thousand pounds today😳
Never understood the Revie years tbh. When Liverpool had set template and were clearly the best team, he never made the effort to pick players that knew each other inside out and played international style at club level. At the time Callaghan, Kennedy, McDermott, Case, Keegan et al could have been the core of a dominant England. Supplement with Francis, Brooking band someone to play the Tosh role.
@@duckjive1 Did you know that in 1974 when Revie was appointed England Manager , he asembled about 45 England players from various First Division clubs for a photo call , and Bonds and Perrymen were among those called up
The first England game I recall watching, I was allowed to stay up and watch Sportsnight that night, not a great start to watching England I remember following this game England went on to lose to Scotland on the Saturday as well
A game I’ve only seen 2nd half highlights from, was a game v Holland a few months earlier, I believe the Dutch taught a footballing lesson that night, 77 wasn’t a good year by the sound of it, but we did beat Italy in the November but it was too late to late to qualify for Argentina 78 by then
@@duckjive1 to be fair i think if thered been play offs and 32 teams back then england wouldnt have missed out on those world cups. The 74 team was full of flair players and would have done well in germany im sure
9:00 - Shilton does his usual and tries to blame his defenders for his own mistake, gets roundly told to 'do one' by Emlyn Hughes, then wisely backs off.
For a very small country, let's say from the early 90's to 2020,... look at the players we produced. We would have given any Team on the planet a game!.... I could name 11 right now , but it would be disrespectful to the other players.....................Plus, we have to find a great manager, which has always been in the hands of the Welsh F. A............say no more!
A lot of men who were kids in this era, criticize these 70's matches. I know blokes 50+ years old who slag these old footy matches, because they want to be ''current'' and trendy. Bit like slagging off abba, when most uk kids in he 70's liked them. Fair to say conditions have improved, but its shit watching matches with hardly any british players in them. Also on the continent, Holland v Belgium, looks more like Ivory Coast v Cameroon. Give me the days of Rep, Haan, Krol, Rensenbrink, Cruyff, Van der elst, gerets, Renquin, Scifo, ceulemans, Van den bergh.....any time.!
I get what you're saying - I'm one of those 50+ folk & actually I can't watch today's footie. Love the 70s games; it's just that England played sh&te in this one :(
Wasn't England's next game the 2-1 Wembley defeat to Scotland after which Revie did a runner ? You can tell here that Revie had lost the England squad ;constant pointless changes-often a player who had a blinder being dropped and never used again (Alan Hudson v W Germany anyone ?!) or a winning ,exciting side (England's 1975 5-1 winners v Scotland) being disbanded immediately. Revie was a club manager,Totally the wrong choice for England. We expected to fail back then.
If Peter Shilton had a weakness, it was definitely penalties. Have seen a number of old England matches recently, and apart from the friendly v West Germany in 1985 in which he saved a penalty, on the other occasions, Shilton has just flopped to his side, seemingly making no attempt to get to the ball.
Even the matches England do beat Wales, their fans default to ''small country syndrome''. Euro 2016 being a prime example. Used to support all the home countries, but for Wales, i now have a go fk yourselves kind of outlook. Not even ''banter'' from them, just pure hatred. Pathetic really. Maybe England should use that small country syndrome excuse - being smaller than the usual world cup winners Brazil, Germany, France and Italy.
A prime example of the destruction Don Revie caused to English football, who then disappeared t the Emirates. He should have been stuck into the Tower Of London for what he did to English football. I hope enjoys his life in purgatory.
England under Don Revie were a hoof it forwards side with no creativity despite having some very good players. Revie was no loss whatsoever when he decamped to the middle East.
England were embarrassingly bad. They had no imagination. Just kicking it high into the box hoping someone would get on the end of it. No wonder they had so much trouble with WC qualifying in those days.
That England, Wales and Scotland cannot achieve good results in football ... Based on this, the House of Lords will demand to unite and compete at the championships as the British national team…
What a shit show, bloody aweful to watch, Everyone looks overweight and slow, in everything. I've noticed in all Games of the 70's, the ball bounces all over the place as if it's made of rubber, and the player's can't control it, as they do today.
The ball is not natural anymore it is made to do unnatural things football in the 70s and 80s was great todays prima donnas cheat pretend acting have no ethical moral values they don't care about anything except money liverpool in the 70s and everton in the 80s would have destroyed todays c r y babies
Good day. Watched and pleased. So like and thanks from country Azerbaijan

The Welsh Admiral Kit was the base of other later kits, Like Belgium kit in the 1982 World Cup. It's almost identical.

Now they are made of crappie polyester, they are not worth $10.

Terrific performance by Yorath. Barry Davies nailed it with the comment about England not having a settled side which we never did under Revie.

Think this is the only time Wales have won at wembley - another terrific upload for Wales fans 👏. Thank you
Wales, the home team (as always in matches in "England"), won at Wembley at rugby in a memorable match in 1999.

The Queen said about this match: "The Welsh done a job on us. Took the bloody edge off my Jubilee celebrations, to be fair."
And then The Sex Pistols wondrous "God Save The Queen"
Remember buying the Wales kit (all time favourite) in early 1977, still have it and it fits OK LOL!
You'd sell that for a fortune on ebay.
The Liverpool players had a busy summer!!!
loved that Welsh kit.
I wish they done this competition now!
Wouldn't be the same nowadays.
I loved this England kit because of Malcolm McDonald cos we neat Cyprus here 5 - 0 and he was wearing it......

The classic Welsh admiral 'tramlines' strip. Always admired it and the following 'Arsenal' Adidas kit.
