Only Far Cry 4, Day of Defeat and Survarium are true M712s. Call of Duty, Day of Infamy and a few others have weird hybrids (i.e. COD’s Machine Pistol is a C96, seen from the lack of fire selector and narrow magwell, but is fully automatic and feeds from a box magazine like the M712).
Detachable magazines were also considered more expensive at the time. Same reason why the detachable magazine version of the M1 was never fully adopted.
There's one I'd love to recommend: the Red9 handgun in Resident Evil (Biohazard) 4. It is a Mauser c96, and they actually did the gun justice by making the firing and loading really accurate, not to mention it's one of the best guns in the game.
That not a true C96, though then again., half of these C96 comparisons are not real (they're Spanish variants since they use magazines to reload and not a stripper clip and have full auto capability). Battlefield's 1 reload is laughable since you can't reload a C96 bullet by bullet (its physically impossible by design).
How so? I'm no expert in this field (that's why I'm asking), but if you can load it by pushing the rounds down off a clip, then it is probably possible to load it just round by round, judging by common logic. So, elaborate on that, please. I also remember watching Hickock45's video of him shooting the C96, I remember him saying something along "clips, sometimes they work just fine, otherwise you'd load it one by one". That's not a verbatim quote though. What BF1 reload animation really misses (besides being faster than a Ferrarri) is that when you open the bolt while the mag is not empty, it should extract a round. With this I agree, it's laughable.
Master of Helium I think theres a spring at the bottom of the internal mag that needs to be pushed down and its hard to do that with individual bullets.
The Chinese models were in fact Type 17, redesigned for use with the .45 ACP ammunitions they have with the Thompson SMG during the time. Further research indicates that there were more soon after, but the Type 17 were the one I once saw in MGS3, in the hand of EVA. Legend has it, that the gansta shooting technique (shooting the gun sideways to mitigate the felt recoil) were formed, and the Japanese used to dread it.

typically loading single rounds into a strip loading C96 (from empty) will have the bolt try to bite you, because the magazine's follower acts as the bolt catch, so as soon as the follower is depressed by the first round, there isn't anything holding the bolt in place. That doesn't happen when strip loading, because the strip itself is holding the bolt back. Mauser Bite is only a problem if the bolt isn't pulled back to its fullest extent, which locks the bolt onto the hammer, the bolt can then be sent home via a good tap to the back of the bolt itself also seeing any weapon eject unspent rounds for the purpose of a reload is painful
Good to know that there are a lot of games out there having the C96 or other versions of it. Just to mention it, as we can see in the comment section there are more games out there featuring the C96 and there would come a lot more in my mind.

You should see the M1919 and MG42 in this game. The recoil they have is...yipes.
That game doesn't have any automatic recoil control like most games. It leaves it entirely up to the player to control recoil
That's true, but controlling the LMG's recoil without the bipod in place is nigh impossible.
Wanna know why in movies and games you always see LMG's mounted? Because they are impossible to control IRL.
True that. Maybe less so with an intermediate round like the 5.56 in the M249, but still.....
