If you're looking for a car that can handle the cold weather, the 2023 Volkswagen Jetta GLI is the perfect option for you. We'll cover everything from the specs to the prices to the reviews. So if you're in the market for a new car, be sure to check out the 2023 Volkswagen Jetta GLI!
The 2023 Volkswagen Jetta GLI has gotten a recent update with a much-needed interior refresh along with some exterior changes that could excite buyers. While this model doesn't take the new Mk8 Golf's design cues, our model comes as fully loaded as Volkswagen makes it for this market. Finished in red paint with black leather interior, the only paid options are the 7DSG and paint. Everything else is included on this trim.
James goes over the exterior design of this vehicle along with some of the key points he noticed during his wintery week with this sporty sedan. He then jumps inside to discuss the layout and features found on this sedan, including the lack of a heated steering wheel. Features included heated front and rear seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, a Beats audio system, navigation, backup camera, sunroof, and some enhanced safety tech.
James then takes the 2023 Volkswagen Jetta GLI on a winter road test to talk about how this sporty little car handles the snow and ice found on Quebec streets in winter. He discusses his overall impressions of this car, how it handles, drives, and everything else about it.

I guess I don't fit the demographic you suggested... I'm 62 and just bought a 2023 GLI!!! Absolutely love it, and I agree with your assessment of the car. Another thing I agree with, It's really hard not to drive it in sport mode!!
Enjoy it!
I have this car and from what I can see in your road test you were not able to really step on it hard due to road conditions. I suggest you drive it again when winter is over and really drive it hard then I'm sure you will be impressed with it's power and handling performance. The GLI has a very good balance of performance and comfort making it a very capable sport sedan.
Yeah I would have loved to rip it during my driving test but the risk wasn't worth the reward in this case! if it does come up again in the summer I will absolutely drive it again. I was still able to feel a bit of the power and mixed with the ride comfort I think its top of its class for sure!
@@technicallycars It rips as you will quickly find out .
Fair enough!
Damn ! I’m so glad to find a car review channel from Quebec ! Great channel !
Glad to have you on board!
Good video 👍🏾
Probably should touch up a bit on some of the information though 😅
Such as?
@@PRNTestDriveyou did a good job I was just being picky because I was a VW salesman. 😂
It was only small things like calling the DSG and DGS or other small things. Keep up the videos.
Going to take one of these for a test drive. I like the features, style and price point. How does the engine feel when you guys drive yours? Plus how does gas mileage perform for you and how much do you normally pay to fill your car where you are
Fuel efficiency wasn't bad overall, and the engine is good for the size. Filling up will depend on your area, gas for example out here in St. Thomas where we film some of our content is sitting at $1.34/L, whereas in Mississauga it's $1.44/L, and in Montreal where this was filmed its more like $1.59/L right now. Could be about $50-60 to fill it up.
as someone who was shopping this, great video! thanks for the info. especially the adaptive suspension
Glad it was helpful!
I own a 2019 GLI and the power/torque hasn't changed. VW needs to make an "R" version ( more power and all-wheel drive).
Yes a R version of the Jetta would be seriously cool!
I’ve actually been thinking about doing this with my GLI, awd converting it with an is38 turbo
I asked some people at vw why they dont and the reason is then it would compete with the audi a3 & a4 😢when i got my 2019 jetta “R-Line” i was like damn they got an r but then found out it was a 1.4t…
Now i got the 23 gli which is awesome and love it
I doubt VW will ever make the Jetta AWD.
@@mikeolson7557you want AWD you need to buy Audi A3,A4 or even the S3 for better price
I think this car will sell pretty well seen a few out on the street already! Over all i had a great week with it.
Definitely does!
USDM doesn't have heated rear seats but Canada does, good to know... could likely retrofit them in if you get all the parts, assuming the BCM/whatever module controls those has the pin-outs for it on USDM cars. Not sure if any has dove into that for the US market.
Funny that it has the button location for heated steering wheel but doesn't offer it like the Golf GTI and R do...
Could be something to look into.
I love this car so much so I wrecked my first one and bought a second one lol. The first one the technician didn’t set it up right. They forgot to take out the pucks from the shipping. But yeah, this is literally the best sport sedan money can buy at this price point and it’s better than all of the Audis that are in the same general field. The interior is nicer than any Audi I’ve seen other than the RS line
That's not the first time I've heard of a GLI not properly being PDI'd, when we featured this back in 2019 we were hearing the same thing from customers.
I have one here in Canada it's an amazing car better than many brands, especially in the winter season.
Hey, is it a 2023? I have one in order since october but still no news from my dealer. I am from Quebec
@@francoismarchand6183 Hi, also i have waited for it, because most of Jetta came with FWD and I have got AWD you need it especially the hazardous winter here.
@@jorgeaceves2068 ok! i thought the jetta only came in FWD and doesnt have AWD? when did you order it at your dealer? just so i get a idea of the lean time
@@francoismarchand6183 I don't know exactly but they charge more money around 9000 dls with original parts, in Germany is normal for this model come with an AWD system ask you,r dealer.
Fair enough
Another super video.
Glad you liked it, thanks! Don't forget to give us a subscription also if you haven't already!
I love snow, but i have a 3 in lift and at tires on my jetta, i drive it on frozen lakes, real engine noises tho and a 2.5, had it 8 years put 100,000m on it im the 4th owner its a 08
Have fun with it!
Hello! How did you receive this car so early? I dont have any news of mine that i also ordered in Quebec, back in october! Did the dealer updated you when it was being produced?
Typically the manufacturer has vehicles allocated for themselves outside of the typical consumer pools.
I like your top trench coat, if you don't find me asking where did you purchase it? thanks.
@technicallycars ?
I have a 2022 and I do not like the Beats system at all. I am not sure if its the speaker system itself or if its the lack of insulation but there are tons of rattles and distortion at higher volumes.
I noticed similar things with the Arteon I reviewed a few years ago.
My 2022 is decent in the winter. Much better then my old focus was but I too wish they made a GLI-R 4wd.
A 4matic version of this would be pretty cool, I'm surprised that VW hasn't done that but I figure the GTI to GLI sales are heavily favoured towards the Golf, and there's not much reason to do the same thing with the Jetta.
The reason the Jetta GLI doesn’t have 4Motion is because it would be too close of competition to the Audi sedan line up.
I’m a VW salesman, and that’s what I’ve been told.
Can you review the 2023 Toyota Seqouia
Will do our best to get our hands on some Toyota's at some point!
Still on our list, we're slowly getting more Toyota vehicles.
ive owned my new 2023 gli for about 3 months now, and i just noticed there was a nonusable heated steering wheel button cause of this video💀
Oops
Bro, 2023 which model is coming with rear ventilated seats? I checked here in Chicago but 2023 aren't coming with cooled seats at from and heated at rear!!!
I don't think any of these come with rear ventilated seats.
@@PRNTestDrive the model which is in the video has rear heated seats..!
Likely a feature unavailable in the USA, wouldn't be the first time unfortunately. I believe this has been consistent for VW models compared to the Canadian-spec vehicles.
What is the name of those rims? I like them.
I believe they're the stock rims on the GLI.
Same price in Canada as in USA. Imagine if USA buyers could easily buy these and take them South. Would be like $25k USD
That's been a problem for a lot of manufacturers recently.
Canadian version has rear heated seats too, which the US spec doesn't have
What rear heated seats?
Canadian spec.
The red vents are brake coolers....
Yes
I have had the 2023 GLI for about a month and had no idea the back seats were heated 😂
Hello! When did you order? I ordered mine last summer and still have no updates whatsoever from my dealer…. I am beginning to think there might be a problem with my order since i have already seen some 2023 on the street for a while now….
Fair enough
Everyone wants this car but only for 50,000 miles. The problem with VWs is that the trade-in value just dives way too early.
I've been noticing that with a lot of brands.
If you think gas powered vehicles are actually going anywhere, you need to wake up my young friend.
ICE vehicles will still be around for a long time, unless governments force older ones off the road there will still be a healthy supply well after new cars go EV-only.
At some angles you look like Charles Leclerc
We agree!
I own a 2014 30 edition 2.0 GLI
Best car ever. It’s tuned stage 2. It’s a fun car to drive. New body style not my cup of tea. But it’s what ppl like. #VW
Enjoy it!
Too bad there is no all wheel drive, in places with heavy snow…..
I know what you mean, but it doesn’t always work out. The Kia K5, Nissan Altima, Mazda 3, and Toyota Camry all added AWD but not all buyers want/need to spend the extra money for it.
My 2023 gli manual has heated steering.
I'm wondering if it was a semiconductor shortage issue, and would be retrofitted down the road by VW.
@@PRNTestDrive I thought I remembered the steering wheel being heated but I believe it was my renegade TH that had it, I checked my GLI and it doesn't have heated steering wheel like you said.
Dsg.. not dgs
oopsies
The more I see the GLI the more I like it ...
Fair enough!
i miss my car, i want my car... 😣
Fair enough
Would you take the GLI over a GTI?
I would, but I'd take neither if I had the choice of any vehicle.
What would you chose at this price point and why?
Darth Mulled Any All.
Fair enough
the GLI is a great car, and EV are not replacing combustion engines in totality. lithium-ion batteries pose a threat to the environment , just wait....
Seems like it.
DGS….
Fair enough
