I love reading the Bible cover to cover! When I became a Christian I was told to start on John. That didn’t make sense to me. Now I tell people start with a translation you can understand, then read it cover to cover.
I am so glad God guided me to a study guide and a Bible in a translation I understand. I read the Bible for the first time in a year last year, something I’ve been trying to do for 20+ years. I wish there was better guidance back then for me, but God is so faithful and has never left me. I now have different Bibles and different translations that I love so much and look forward to reading every day. ❤
As a born again Christian the ONLY way we can be sanctified is through the listening and reading of God’s Word the Holy Scripture! Understanding and determination is done through the Holy Spirit the most powerful person in the universe.
The proper context to read the Bible in is the Holy Spirit. “But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance,
I read the bible in the same way that the early followers of Christ did: no chapters, verses, headings or footnotes. That way, I can't fall into the trap of taking verses out of context.
Another Testament of Jesus Christ! 3 Nephi 11: 7-10 7 Behold my Beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased, in whom I have glorified my name-hear ye him. 8 And it came to pass, as they understood they cast their eyes up again towards heaven; and behold, they saw a Man descending out of heaven; and he was clothed in a white robe; and he came down and stood in the midst of them; and the eyes of the whole multitude were turned upon him, and they durst not open their mouths, even one to another, and wist not what it meant, for they thought it was an angel that had appeared unto them. 9 And it came to pass that he stretched forth his hand and spake unto the people, saying: 10 Behold, I am Jesus Christ, whom the prophets testified shall come into the world.
Edit: It has never ever entered my mind to try to find verses to back God into a corner. Even when I was reading but still not saved. I definitely “spoke” too soon, though. I have found the best way (for me) is to start in Genesis 1:1, read each and every day for however many minutes the Spirit leads; then start again when I reach Revelation 22:21. That usually takes me through September. I love that she made a distinction between reading and studying the Bible; there is a difference and both are valuable (and necessary).
I really tried but I could not get past the imaginary Hebrew god that made a man from dirt, a woman from a bone, a talking serpent and an 800 year old prophet. I'm sorry, but I am forced to think for a living, using my brain.

And when you finish, start again! Keep reading. As you mature spiritually, you will notice things that you never “saw” before.

Try rationalizing Leviticus 25 and the perpetual slavery it endorses.
