      I certainly was, any closer this install would have been much trickier…. I love it as a backdrop for the pavers and steps though! ✌🏻

    I can’t believe the home owner would put those nice looking pavers next to that old concrete. I would’ve tore out the old concrete. Beautiful work.👍

      Yeah, that makes no sense. Doesn’t look like it’s a lot of concrete to get rid of

      Unfortunately this walkway was a bit of an add on at the end. we used the left over pavers from the front project and I did it at a low cost as a thank you to the customer. The original plan was just grass or stone at the bottom. The customer just wanted a better way to access the backyard. To replace the asphalt with pavers up to the garage door would have costed a good amount more and we would of had to buy more material. We did it because we had left over paver but I do agree that it would make it much better looking ✌

    You’re a good stone mason!
    Just had a patio installed and I can see a definite difference in craftsmanship.
    It’s to bad one only learns about quality of work after a patio is laid.

    I just stumbled across your channel when I was looking for advice on how to cut pavers using a cut saw/Stihl saw. Fantastic work, inspiring and helpful. Thanks from across the pond in England (where I am attempting to create a driveway from pavers!!).

    Nice job, looks great! Ever consider cutting each border stone to have them all sit tight around the curves? Take care

      Thank you, I try not to cut off the beveled edges of the border pavers even if it means one side is more open than the other. Polymeric sand fills those gaps nicely and as long as the gaps are consistent, it looks just fine ✌🏻

    I am from Australia and we use a product called crusher dust or road base topped with bedding sand under pavers. Is rock a standard material used in the States and why?

      Most contractors here use the same method you are talking about and so did I up until 4 years ago. This "Open Grade Base" method is getting more popular and makes so much sense.... I have a video where I talk more about it. Check it out by clicking this link right here 👉ua-cam.com/video/fDe3tMZQY5o/v-deo.html

    Once again, you guys are artists. Very nice. Do you ever seal the pavers to make cleaning them down the road easier? If so what product/sealer would you use? Thanks for all your hard work and dedication!

    • @TheChristianHardscaper
      @TheChristianHardscaper  2 роки тому

      Thank you, I don’t do any sealing. I haven’t had enough experience with sealing to confidently push a certain product. Hopefully someday I will have a go to. ✌🏻

    I have seen a couple of videos that you have used this particular paver. I don’t know… that’s why I am asking. Do you not have to seal these particular pavers? Is it customer preference. Geographical reasons? I live in the southeast region and pavers here will start to look really hazy if not sealed.

    • @TheChristianHardscaper
      @TheChristianHardscaper  Рік тому

      I don't ever seal the pavers personally. Nor do I recommend it.... There are to many ways to screw it up and even when done properly, I don't know If I agree that it will extend the life of the pavers. It is a very debatable subject in my opinion.... If you have a very well drained base, your pavers will last a very long time.... ✌

    Which pavers do you recommend using for a parking area? Also what base would be best?

    • @TheChristianHardscaper
      @TheChristianHardscaper  Рік тому

      For vehicular traffic areas, you need to buy specific pavers that are thicker than normal foot traffic pavers. Foot traffic pavers are typically 2 and 3/8 of an inch. Vehicular pavers are and inch thicker at 3 and 3/8 of an inch. I would recommend looking around where you are locally and see what they have to offer....
      As for the base, I would use open grade base like do for my patios and walkways but with a little more base prep ( like compacting in more lifts and adding 1 - 2 layers of geo-grid into the base stone to help prevent the pavers from shifting and settling )
      Here is a video of how I do my base prep, you can use that as a start and then apply the more compacting and geo-grid, you will be all set.✌

    Brother you do beautiful work and you will go far! I do have a question though; you got me on this open grade base. I just did my last job without the 3/4 minus and sand and did it with the clean 3/4 and 3/8 chip stone. I’m used to running the compactor on the pavers after spreading the poly sand but a simple 25ft walkway ate up the sand like nothing! I ended up using twice the amount of poly sand and I’m still not confident it set good. I feel like the sand just worked it’s way down into the bedding. Should I not run the plate over it when doing this method? I appreciate any advice.

    • @TheChristianHardscaper
      @TheChristianHardscaper  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks man, very cool to hear you made a switch! It does eat up a bit more poly because of the open grade bedding material. I haven’t ever seen a difference where I use twice as much though… definitely keep compacting it after the first run of poly, once you go through the second time, you will be all set, may use a bit more but the benefits of the open grade base outweigh the extra poly needed. How did you feel about the firmness of the pavers on the open grade base? Solid right?

    • @jcon371
      @jcon371 2 роки тому +1

      Oh it was substantially easier to screed and lay the pavers. I actually do like using a good , quality plastic edging which I obviously couldn’t use with the clean stone so the concrete edge did add some extra work but I was still happy with how it turned out. I’ll definitely stick with this method for the next few jobs though as practice makes perfect. As far as the poly sand, I would typically use about a bag and a half for a 4x25 walk with the sand base. I ended up using 3 bags with the open grade. Just surprised it ate up that much. Thanks for the response and keep up the good work bro!

    • @TheChristianHardscaper
      @TheChristianHardscaper  2 роки тому

      Glad to hear it, there is some things you have to do different with this method but it ends up working itself out in the end. Good luck with putting it to practice and keep me posted on what you think. God Bless! ✌

    First off your stuff is awesome and I have just started following you. I have a few general questions hopefully you can help.
    Have you worked with travertine? Good? Bad? Indifferent?
    Also have you worked with polypropylene as a base instead of normal gravel and sand?
    Lastly would you ever put travertine over poured concrete? Or is that dumb? I am trying to extend my patio and make it one cohesive material and I was debating about putting travertine over my concrete slab but there wouldn’t be any drainage after I put the pavers and sand down.
    Keep up the awesome work and I will continue to watch and learn.

    • @TheChristianHardscaper
      @TheChristianHardscaper  2 роки тому +1

      Thank you, travertine is beautiful but it has its ups and downs. The way it looks and how it resists heat more than other products is great, but it is very porous somewhat fragile. If I were to put it on top of concrete, I would set it on a bed of mortar and adhere it to the concrete. Just remember that if the pad is in bad shape, the stones could get damaged over the years as the pad shifts.
      The best base for that type of install is the same one I used in this video and all my other videos ✌🏻

      @@TheChristianHardscaper good to know. I’m building an outdoor patio and we live in California where it gets super hot. Any suggestions for pavers that won’t get super and is durable and can take some abuse with kids and dogs and bbq grease? Thanks for the response I appreciate it.

    • @TheChristianHardscaper
      @TheChristianHardscaper  2 роки тому

      Im not to sure of many materials that will not get too hot to walk on barefoot.... But there is a lot of nice outdoor area "carpets" that you can lay down in those types of spaces.
