College football’s greatest individual performance took place on the game’s greatest stage: the 2006 Rose Bowl, which featured the two best teams in the nation competing for the National Championship. Both squads were undefeated coming in, but USC was riding a 34-game win streak that spanned three seasons, and many fans and analysts were calling them greatest college football team of all time. They were the heavy favorites.
Enter the Longhorns and its All-American quarterback Vince Young, a junior dual-threat who finished second in the Heisman voting to Trojans running back Reggie Bush. On this early January night, Young single-handedly put a stop to USC's dynasty with a performance for the ages.
Young’s most heroic moment(s) came in the fourth quarter with less than five minutes remaining. USC led 38-26 as the clock ticked down when Young sprinted for a 12-yard touchdown. Then, with just 26 seconds left in the game, facing a 4th-down-and-5, he capped off the incredible comeback with a 9-yard scramble into the end zone. The play has turned into an iconic college football moment that makes every highlight reel and video package. Oh, and Young also scored a two-point conversion to give the Longhorns a bit of breathing room. They held on to defeat the Trojans 41-38, propelling the Longhorns to the top of the college football mountain for the first time since 1970.
Young was then selected with the third overall pick by the Tennessee Titans in the 2006 Draft. And well, let’s just say he probably longed for his college days like pretty much every other person starting their first job.

Greatest game ever played
Nah I think Georgia vs Oklahoma beats this out
@@camdenabrams6409 you never witness this game then. Only you say that cuz the game was 2 years ago this game was 14 big reason why people think that
Damn facts. Chills everytime
Best i ever seen
@@camdenabrams6409 USC UT was the greatest football game ever played and there is no comparison. It is not even close
Its a shame people don't know Vince Young had just as good a game the year before in the Rose Bowl vs Michigan
Sure did !
I think because of this game it pushed that Michigan game way into the background.
This was crazy. I'm not a native Texan, but this was the height of Texas football since I've been here.
The guy carried this team.
yeah that was a good game but definitely nail biting.
One of the best rose bowls ever to only be overshadowed by this game
Vince young and reggie Bush were ahead of their time
Vince was, not reggie
Who could know this in 06.... hes probably watching Watson, Wilson and Jackson thinking damn im 10 year too early.
Vince wasn't either. Steve McNair, Daunte Culpeper, Randal Cunningham, Donovan McNabb
@@xrpmaxi8839 get off the gas. They been tryna make Black QBs conform to the "Pro"(white) style of QB play. They did for years then 90-2010 they tried to do it without us noticing. See McNairs penalty clause in his contract for rushing over X amount of yards. These QBs now can run a higher paced read with option routes through out the route tree. The older guys including VY and RGIII never were given the chance.
@@H-Town_83 All I said was Vince Young was not ahead of his time. There are too many QBs who could do what Vince did and do it better. You went off in some direction that I don't give a fuck about. But one problem with your argument is Steve Young. Lmao. McNabb had success with the Eagles. Cunningham was fantastic. Mike Vick set rushing records. Come on dude.
R.I.P *Keith Jackson* Greatest Sport Commentator of All time.
This was the last game he called and it was a Classic Game.
I wonder if I will live long enough to listen to the next great college football announcer.........
@@sabrecatsmiladon7380 Theres a few left that are spread out between
Boxing, Baseball and that call local market Basketball games like Herb Albert.
But on the National Networks there's not so many, because they've all adopted the Hot Take & Controversy culture and have to be more edgy .
They talk more about a players life/drama than their on field contributions
Vince Young was a monster. This game had it all, three of some of the greatest college football players of all time(Young, Leinart, Bush) all in one field.
One was a bust the other lasted couple of seasons bush was decent
@@mr.realistic9791 Young was just too far ahead of his time. Ie Watson, Jackson and Wilson. 10 years too early and still had a winning record and was benched after leading Tennessee to a 11-1 record.... imagine going 11-1 and still never play again.
@@mr.realistic9791what does that have to do with the original comment
Not to mention pete carrol
One of the greatest National Title games I've ever seen, and this is coming from a Bama fan
If colt mcoy didnt go out in that other one.they beat bama🤘😬HOOK EM
I'm not a fan of either team but this was one of the most exciting football games I've ever watched.
Bro... I still remember how in shock I was after this loss 😢
Still hurts, still hurts😢
I remember how happy I was 🐐🐐🤘🤘
🤘
I remember how happy i was for the Win! Win or lose it was still the greatest college football game ever played. When it was 38-33 i thought the same.
As a die hard Texas fan...this game was so satisfying. They crowned USC the greatest team EVER right before this on ESPN...then pulled off the comeback. Memories for life
One of the Greatest moments in college football History
Even though Vince didn't win a Heisman, there were 3 Heisman's in this game and it was phenomenal to watch. One of the best college championship games of all time
"Going for the cornerrr... HE'S GOT IT!"
Man! I still remember this one. I was working in Houston at the time and the whole city was electric during that game. The whole State. USC, they were the ones that were invincible. Nobody could beat them. They were unstoppable for over 2 years. Watching the game we all knew Vince was gonna run it in on that play. Everybody knew it. And they still couldn't stop him. USC came in invincible but Young was Invincible.
Invinceable
The greatest championship game ever
What's your 2nd favorite?
I felt very blessed to see this game in 2006 when I was starting to really understand and watch college football
USC couldn’t stop Vince Young on that day
No one could stop VY in his college days
Literally carried his team to victory ....
Vince Young was immaculate on this day.
vince young was a monster , cant do nothing put respect him. could have been unstoppable in the nfl in the right situation , pin this . 💯 great video bro
His work ethic and additude ruined it. Also injuries didn't help
@@breiter4697 Jeff fisher
Jeff the mustache Fisher.
Ruined the potential
@@breiter4697 His coach didn't want him. Take note of what Mac Brown said in the video clip.
Vince Young was a gamer. Dude pulled a ridiculous amount of games out.
Vince wasnt PRO FOOTBALL CALIBER...Just like Matt Leinart. Dont blame the offense...if you can play, you can play.
Greatness in college does NOT guarantee success at the top level.
I loved Vince...but he was DUMB
As a SOONER-fan from Houston, TX (my mom went to OU), I remember watching this awesome game from a nuclear missile silo. Although the Shorthorns are Oklahoma's bitter rival, I was SOOO glad they won this game. And what a game it was!
Bro you live in freaking Fallout 4??
I don't remember the game ever looking this good back when I saw it on my tv all those years ago. Seeing this game in this quality is such a treat.
Vince Young is The EPITOME of fighting through Adversity when the TOUGH gets TOUGHER...
Vince young just seems like one of those guys that lights your day up. Id kick a few beers with him.Coming from a SOONERS fan
Boomer to the SEC Baby 🙌🏻
First ever game I watched beginning to end. Fell in love with the game after it.
Dude was awesome in college... 💯
This was USC's home game yet Vince Young was a freak.
Greatest National Championship of all time
GREATEST GAME
9:38 chills.
Best damn game I've ever seen. I was there. We even stayed at a USC family's house. They didn't say a damn thing.
I can't even imagine what it was like being at this game
@@HarrisHighlights We were at the 20 yard line, about halfway up, with "bad" seats. That's the corner where Vince Young went in.
We were surrounded by Trojans, and they were all very cocky because of nationally known star players, who by the way, didn't amount to a hill of beans in the NFL. About 10 minutes after getting to our seats, two Longhorn cowboys came up and sat in front of us, cowboy hats and all.
A Trojan lady who was behind us kept talking and talking about everything, even unrelated football crap. It was obnoxious. Some people were standing.some seated, but as soon as the players ran into the field, everybody was standing and cheering. After the coin toss, some people sat down. The lady behind us was in a Trojan crowed that sat down, but us Horns remained standing.
Then she tapped me on the shoulder. I turned my head to see what the hell she wanted. She said "Hey if you the two boys in cowboy hats to sit down, then maybe we can all enjoy the game seated." I told her there was no way I was going to ask them to sit down, because we're not going to sit down.
So the lady reaches between me and my wife and taps his shoulder. She said "Your cowboy hats are blocking the field. If you sit down, then we can all sit down and enjoy the game." He looked at her and said "Lady, Longhorns don't sit down at Longhorn games"
End of story.
That's awesome! My grandpa, who's had USC season tickets since like the 50's was sitting a few rows up from the corner Vince Young ran into. He still remembers it vividly. Calls it one of the worst days of his life.
@@HarrisHighlights LOL. There were a lot of disappointed Trojans there, because they were suppose to win big, due to the proven superstars on their team. I still hear Trojans around the country saying that they should have won the game. My niece's husband is one of them.
@@koyotekola6916 who is your nieces husband?
I'm not a fan of either team, but this has got to be the greatest game ever played.
I was born in 1995 and this is one of my earliest memories of college football … and what made me fall in love with the game forever… that shot of Vince Young standing on the bench with the confetti falling will forever be engraved in my brain … absolute LEGEND
Remains the greatest college football game ever played.
The best game of History
A Performance to Remember: DeShaun Watson vs Bama 2017
Air Max the sugar bowl😂😂
But Watson still got the last laugh
Air Max lol you a deshaun fan and not a clemson fan then?..my point being sure lol cool bama got the last laugh though...

"By consensus, the teams ranked 1 and 2 in the country, with nary a whisper of dissent" what a gorgeous line
one of my favorite childhood memories
Vince. Young. Scores.
Who was also the2006 OROTY and a 2 time pro bowler...
Vince Young. Texas two step. Ball Game
The reason why Mack Brown said Vince Young was succeeding because of less coaching, when VY got drafted to the Titans, Jeff Fisher tried to turn him into somebody he wasn't and it didn't work out
Thank you, finally a Texas video 🤘🏾
One of my favorite National Championships of all times💯
I love the way Vince gave them a double whammy by scoring both the touchdown and the two point conversion!
I'm so glad I lived to see this.
Greatest game and single performance of all time hands down!
Iconic game, Iconic player, two Iconic teams (coming from an ND fan). Very few games exemplify college football better than this one.
Tears in my eyes reliving this legendary moment
Young ran over that defense
I saw this game live on ABC. Man does time fly!
The greatest single game performance ever!
Imagine being a junior and never experienced a loss until this
Forever the greatest performance in the greatest ncaa championship win ever
Do one for Brian Scalabrine (pretty much every game)
I got to say but the rose bowl has had some of the greatest games ever like Vince young performances. They need to make the rose bowl the championship venue every year.
Keith Jackson was so salty you can hear it in his voice. Since he was PAC-10 homer for the longest
Everyone was salty. They thought Texas had zero chance to win
USC was up by TWELVE with less than five minutes to go. Let that sink in.
One of the greatest games ever played by a single player. Vince Young was ridiculous.
Best game I ever saw.
Vince Young is playing in The Canadien Football League to try to get back into the NFL. So Far We haven't heard from Vince Young even during his short tenure with The Tennessee Titans, He had a comeback against The Arizona Cardinals in 2008 if I'm NOT mistaken.
Great video man, you gonna do a draft review/highlights this year again?
Fabulous game!
If you did a video on anything involving the 90s Nebraska teams, we’d be stoked. GBR
One of the greatest
As an Irish fan I thought the USC VS Irish was the greatest game I’ve seen.. but the championship topped that by far !!
Vince Young
My son was conceived right after this game.
The greatest college game ever
I was in 10th grade .. still havent seen a game better then this one even tho we lost I would put my saints beating the colts then this one
"The Greatest game ever played."
Tom Brady 2000 against Alabama
Performance to remember, Kenjon Barner vs USC 2013
If VY came back from his senior year he probably does down as the greatest college player of all time.
True.
But what if he get injured or drops in the draft like Matt.
When you at your peak even if youretechnically not ready you go and make your money.. period
@@godcentricimagery1581 Houston had the 1st pick and he wanted them to pick him... and then they didn't.
Gd it Vince Young why'd you have to have so much talent
Zeke’s post season run in 2014-2015 against Wisconsin, Alabama, and Oregon.
Did it in THEIR house. Mark my word, if Vince stayed in Austin one more year, they would have repeated. They had Romace Taylor and Jamal Charles.
Derrick Henry vs Mississippi State 2015. One of his best games
This game and the performance of VY is a perfect example of why the Heisman should be awarded AFTER all games have been played. VY out played two Heisman winners in this game.
You could have put any defense against Vince Young that night, he still would have found a way to win.
Any beastly Reggie bush game
Thought V was hiesman winner for sure. After this game we all knew he was THE BEST PLAYER IN THE COUNTRY
Do a performance to remember on Kevin Faulk
Texas' GOAT!
There will NEVER, EVER be "The Greatest Game Ever!" because it is opinion and opinions are not factual.

Thats tough love him or hate him
Tim Tebow was a Beast
So was Jonny Manzel

USC's fight song is one of most annoying in college football.
Glad we don't have to put up with it so the end of game.
Humbled
One day... Texas will be back on the top.
TheMacGenerals wish i could play there .
Te’o against Michigan State in 2012
I was broke as a joke during this time… hated it… NEVER BROKE AGAIN- NBA Young Boy
I know the outcome yet I still get nervous.
Gotta have Elliott against Alabama in the Sugar Bowl, Tebow against Cincinnati in the Sugar Bowl, Melvin Gordon against Nebraska where he got 400+ yards and 3 tds or something like that, (I know that running back for Oklahoma got more like a week later, but he did it against Kansas and Nebraska was ranked so his is better), and if you wanna be a real sweetheart, Khalil Tate’s record breaking 327 yard game against Colorado this year. I doubt you’ll get there, but the first 3 would be nice.
Richard Nixon Don't forget Kevin Faulk too
Christian Keller sorry I’m not too familiar with his performance. I know he was an LSU running back in the late 90’s, but since I started watching college football in 2007, the majority of my knowledge is since then.
Richard Nixon I only know about him bc he played for my fav team which is LSU. He helped LSU beat I believe Houston. He rushed for at least 200 yrds that game
Richard Nixon yeah i looked it up he rushed for 246 yrds and it was against Houston
Saquon Barkley against Iowa
Yo what’s the announcer’s name? I used to LOVE how he called games. Epic as hell.
Keith Jackson, it was known then that this was his final game.
If Reggie doesn’t do that stupid lateral and fumble it, this would have been a different game
