Hey, taracampbell2433. I'm here in Australia worrying about my friend and her husband in Paradise. Their home was destroyed in the Camp Fire; they moved into their new home in Paradise in March or April of 2021. I hope you and yours are safe.
@@lizj5740 Thanks for the thoughts! i'm sure everyone in Butte and Tehama appreciates any positive vibes or prayers. :) I just watched an update done by The Lookout, a fire mapping expert out of Chico. It's great to have such good experts in different fields of fire operations weigh in. Good news for your friends is he's not worried about Paradise! Magalia (the part that hasn't burned) is at risk because of old dense growth, but the clearance that has happened in Paradise as a result of the Camp Fire has drastically reduced the risk of damage in Paradise itself.
Dry flash fuels like dead grass. Then high temps and windy conditions allow extra oxygen to fuel the fire. As night falls and the temperature decreases, it pushes the smoke and oxygen closer to the ground. Resulting in decreased fire spread. Very little roads in that area as well.
Man, what a conflagration. I wonder if the idiot that started the fire has any remorse... I hope the courts don't have any mercy on their docket the day he appears before the judge. It's bad enough when fires start because of Lightning strikes, but when they start because of man-made issues it is chilling.
The wet winter contributed to the situation, as the rain intervals resulted in higher vegetation density than normal. This is especially the case for tall grasses and similar flashy fuels. The heat has been brutal, too. It's supposed to cool down a bit, so hopefully they can get a handle on it.

I'm sat on a canyon rim in the Paradise/Magalia area (ain't being too specific over a google product to strangers) and it's an anxious anxious night here tonight. I would be shocked if there's a lot of us left on the ridge
Juan, in one of your upcoming updates, I wonder if you can comment on...
2 years ago, there was a lot of talk about Cal Fire's new nighttime fire fighting capabilities using Chinooks equipped with FLIR. There was grousing that the Forest Service was being slow to adopt nighttime fire fighting.
So, 2 years past the Dixie and Caldor fires, where are we at on that? Has Northern California still failed to adopt this?
They're up and running.
Outstanding narration for novice (Me) viewing and education.
Great coverage Juan 👍🏻
Good report, thanks again Juan.
I saw this fire while flying to Oakland today. It looks like a volcanic eruption. Absolutely insane how big it is.
Updated my subscription notifications just to get this video. As someone in BUT-113 i'm watching closely! I knew you'd be on it! Thanks, Juan.
Stay safe. I have many family and friends in Chico, and I'm just one county away now affected by this fire.
I just watched an update done by The Lookout, a fire mapping expert out of Chico.
@@JahLove63 Thank you! I love how all our counties in the north valley support each other in times of trouble. 🧡
Outstanding video. Thank you.
We're getting a little smoke from that in Carson City now.
The smoke cloud looked positively apocalyptic in Susanville tonight.
Wildfires are terrible, very frightening things. Thanks for your very detailed coverage and analysis Juan.
One wonders how the fire grew so fast. The weather forecast didn't include strong winds and when it does PG&E usually cuts power for the area.
Dry flash fuels like dead grass. Then high temps and windy conditions allow extra oxygen to fuel the fire. As night falls and the temperature decreases, it pushes the smoke and oxygen closer to the ground. Resulting in decreased fire spread. Very little roads in that area as well.
Thanks for the update. Not too far from us.
Thank you so much for the information.
It missed my Apartment by 2 miles. We have everything ready to evacuate in case we get the Call.
Man, what a conflagration. I wonder if the idiot that started the fire has any remorse... I hope the courts don't have any mercy on their docket the day he appears before the judge. It's bad enough when fires start because of Lightning strikes, but when they start because of man-made issues it is chilling.
Land of Ishi, great reporting thanks.
We've had smoke all the way over here in SE Illinois the past couple of days. It's really gray and hazy out.
The wet winter contributed to the situation, as the rain intervals resulted in higher vegetation density than normal. This is especially the case for tall grasses and similar flashy fuels. The heat has been brutal, too. It's supposed to cool down a bit, so hopefully they can get a handle on it.
Australia has sent a contingent of people from 4 states to Canada during the week.
Remarkable! Good report Juan!
