- Full review of Final Fantasy 16 DLC Echoes of the Fallen.
I am committed to being honest and unbiased in regards to this review. I love Final Fantasy and think it's objectively the best franchise of JRPG's to ever exist. But this DLC is... slightly flawed.

The title is hyperbole. Calm down.
You mean you got caught making click bait and not actually good content smh. 1st how would you know what millions of people are thinking...
You mean you got caught clickbaiting and you wanna play it off like its our fault
@@antoniohill4451 stop crying. My God.
Click bait tubers, trying to make a buck. Click bait tubers, yeah they do really suck. 🎉
I was about to say I’m pretty hyped about the new dlc
Love FF16 and first DLC was great. Lots of people care about the DLC.
The title is slightly hyperbolic
This game is great combat wise l, I hope it sells well on pc cuz I'm getting it if it comes to steam
This didn’t age well
Heres to hoping the leviathan dlc actually has major impacts on the game, mainly the endgame. Its mentioned by the devs and clive himself that because he wasnt a complete vessel, he couldnt contain ultimas power after he absorbed it. Leviathan should change that.
I really wonder if they will alter the ending. that would be wild.
@@SolaceAndDread would you look at this as a positive or a negative?
@@inzone88 this is a really good question.
Solace: I wouldn't mind getting a more concrete answer to their fates and having a different ending if it's done tastefully and feels earned. Especially is Levi is hard. Levi SHOULD be difficult for Ifrit to overcome imo.
Dread: it would be unprecedented to lock the "true ending" behind paid DLC. I would not love that. I also liked the story they already told and like to speculate, so there's a part of me that hopes they leave it alone.
@@SolaceAndDread good way to look at it. I feel the same way. Id love to see a more concrete answer for the ending, but it would be unfortunate that the ending is behind a dlc paywall. Thanks for the insight!
@@SolaceAndDread TBF I'm 17 been playing Final Fantasy since birth BUT CLIVE SHOULD LIVE he has had littleraly nothing but suffering since he's was born and could not get a fucking break
I'll definitely getting want it, mainly to get the Pass, so I can play both DLCs back to back as well as kinda squeeze more than just 2-3 hours from just Echoes.
Probably smart. I was left waiting and wanting more. It would have been better to get both at once, lol
it didn't exactly help Valhalla dropped around the same time, which was a free dlc that had much more substance
That's actually a really good point!
No its not! Theyre completelt different games!@@SolaceAndDread
@@Astreon123 it still has some of the same install base.
I care. It's easy for people to join in on hating FF16, but I like the combat in this game, and I really liked the Omega Boss. I can't wait to see how having Leviathan powers will impact gameplay and story.
The title is hyperbolic. we're largely complimentary of the dlc.
@@SolaceAndDread So don't be hyperbolic for clicks?
@@1Dylan1 nope. That's what works. The content of the video is all anyone should care about.
@@SolaceAndDread Who the fuck died and made you god ? unlike what twitter pretends they dont decide for everyone arrogent prick,
That’s such a hypocritical and shallow way of viewing content creation! Your title should reflect the content inside, otherwise it’s clearly misleading and dishonest. Obviously you don’t care about integrity or ethos based on your comments about this, but I’m dropping this comment anyway because I would like to think that I can have some sort of positive influence. I’m not dragging your content at all - just hoping you’ll reconsider your titling - especially since so many commenters have brought it up. I’d have clicked on your video if it had another title, like “My Take on FFXVI DLC” or “What I’d Improve on FFXVI DLC.” Again, just hoping you’d take this to heart :)
The way the game ended, I would be more interested in playing a sequel or prequel (Joshua's quest up until he met Clive for example or dion after he fell from the sky if there is a chance for survival ect) than something that takes place in the existing timeline. if they had to do that, i would be more interested in playing as joshua when they got separated near the end of the game. what i mean to say is, this is a game heavily dependant on its story, I would say even more so than the actual combat, so I expect the dlc to add something tof the story, something meaningful to its characters. still gonna play the second dlc and any dlc that come out but I would love a prequel or sequel, much like what they did with vii and crisis core
A josh dlc would have been amazing!
Overall, I liked the game and played it multiple times. Final Fantasy mode strikes a good balance for me. After playing XVI, I went back through the entire FF series. While XVI doesn't feel like the first six games, I wouldn't expect it to. It's doing its own thing, which I enjoyed. I went back to to play the first DLC, and I'll be going back to play it after the Leviathan DLC drops. I'm not a diehard Final Fantasy fan, but I am the exact intended demographic for this game and the game imparted its will unto me: "play Final Fantasy games," which I did. For that reason, FFXVI will forever be a game I love.
I loved the game and thought it was amazing. I am looking forward to all of the DLC being playable together. That is the only reason I have not picked up the first DLC yet.
I do recommend it. But yes I would wait to play it all at once
I obsessed over the 1st dlc. Can't wait for the 2nd 😁
It's a great little story
No body cares because ff7 rebirth blows ff16 out of the water in every way. That's how you make a final fantasy.
I really loved ff16 the ring of timely strikes makes this game so much more fun then without it, i look forward to playing it again on new game plus in the spring.
My biggest problem is still the lack of party banter. You have the 3 main characters and its still less talking than just Clive and Cid. Jill has less dialogue lines than pretty much every character other than maybe the 2 guys that were with Famiel. The Leviathan DLC is said to be 8 hours long with 2 hours of extra content (which will probably change the ending of the game) and its so obviously cut content, just like this one. Definitely expecting Jill to do nothing in those 10 hours, her and Torgal watching from far away as Clive/Ifrit fights Leviathan with most likely Joshua/Phoenix at his side. Ignore the fact that its fire vs water.
I hope Shiva/Jill plays a substantial role.
Yeah that killed FF 15 for me. I actually love the Romance in the games, but Noctis had more screen time with Luna's CORPSE than her alive.
So, them benching Jill and likely killing off Clive made me lukewarm to this entry.
@@Aizen2468 hehe it's all about the BROmance in 15, hehe.
I care especially after I platinum ff16 ,only thing I want is a change to ending
What change?
Yes Yoshi-P said something will happen when Clive absorbs the power of all the Eikons 🐌🐌
I didn't even know that the DLC was out.
I love FFXVI, the music, combat and boss fights are all S -tier for me. Omega was one of the cooler bosses I’ve ever gone up against. Looking forward to The Rising Tide.
Omega broke my back, i can't lie, lol. SUPER fun fight though.
Probably because Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is not too far away, or simply because and this is just pure speculation. But most probably stopped playing after finishing the story, and never looked back. After I got the platinum trophy, I know I was one of the ones that never looked back. May be when the second dlc comes out, but this one did not peak my interest one bit. And not only that, but it’s a paid dlc. And God of War Ragnarok Valhalla free dlc came out around the same time.
I didn't think about 7R😅
I was wondering if I was the only one. Platinumed Star Ocean 2 R and Alan Wake 2, jumped over to FF16 DLC and... I don't really care....
I think it's mainly because the game was complete. That being said, I'm sure the second DLC will be getting Levi and then "good ending" but it's kind of... eh...
Yeah, The Levi DLC is probably going to be more substantial but I don't know if it's gonna be worth the trip back for. Hope it's longer than 2 hours 😂
@@SolaceAndDreadyes it’s gonna be 8-10 hours long 🐌🐌
it’s because ff7 rebirth is out. so we are overwhelmed by final fantasy
Came here to see why i don't care, genuinely, not being sarcastic. I loved FF16, I felt like it saved square enix from what i personally considered a long list of failures in the FF department, and i finally got everything i wanted from a FF game since FF12, but for some really strange reason, i have absolutely no desire to play this DLC.
It's a fun 2 hour adventure lol. But might be best to wait until the rising tide dlc
The story made little sense to me after the conclusion of the game. Previous FFs like XV for example concentrated in giving Ardyn more context going to the past. Other dlcs from alternate view or a different point in time within the story. This one tries to tell its story after ultima and makes little sense. Also it came too close to the realease of rebirth which by now is the FF game everyone is concentrated and talking about.
The DLC stories take place prior to the battle with Ultima, not after. The story is over after the battle with Ultima, since Clive is dead. What do you mean when you say, "This one tries to tell its story after Ultima"?
Still longer than COD campaign 😂
Lmfao
i enjoyed it personally
Me too.
I thought the DLC was really good. The problem in my gaming circles seemed to feel the same way. We’re all pretty excited for the next one.
I hope Levi is hard
The linear stages of the game are designed around the incredible Ultimaniac Mode. It’s why they are hallways separated by combat arenas, and it’s also why there are no heavy elemental resistances.
I agree with you about the boss checkpoints, such a buzzkill! Still my favorite game in a long time.
I kinda liked Ultimaniac mode, but it's a terrible decision if the linear design of the whole game was really designed around one mode inside of FF mode...
I agree, it’s not a great choice to optimize the game around content that most players won’t get to for a long time, if ever.
However, I also think that FF16 Ultimaniac is far and away the best, most thrilling gaming experience we have this year. I spend all my time as Clive these days just parked at the Arete Stone.
if it was on xbox id care more cus then id be able to play it, also the game is really just a devil may cry clone at its core with FF elements slapped in.
Its just annoying they didn't make dlc to continue the story.I doubt the next one will continue the story either.
It will backfill it. It will take place right before the end. 🤷🏾♂️
I think often games that wrapped the story quite well don’t let players eager for DLC. Unlike FFXV where I felt like I had questions that I was hoping the DLC would answer or characters that may get more attention.
Also the timing is terrible, I don’t understand why Squanix keeps releasing games or DLC during extremely saturated moments in the Western video game market.
Yeah, timing could be better...
Says who? i loved the DLC especially Omega
It's hyperbole. :-)
From my experience, you forgot your buttons. I got this DLC and instead of going right into it, I started up from a 3rd playthrough on Final Fantasy mode that I stopped halfway through. When I first came back I had to remember how the game played and once I did everything became easy. I didn't die a single time to this DLC. To give context the only accessories I used are from the normal mode and the only upgrades I had where the weapon upgrades that the game gives you to keep pace with the inflated HP pools of enemies.
The game itself is super easy and was meant to be that way since Yoshi wanted everyone to be able to beat this game and is probably from his experience with 14 (See his interview where they brag that with the accessories you can play the game with one hand and do something else......). The issue I take with this game is that it feels that a lot of it (even the DLC) is padding for what would otherwise be a short run time. The purposely slow running. The long hallways, inflated HP pools on bosses with very easy to memorize patterns ect. For people who are used to challenging content will probably be bored with this (and this game) very fast unless you love the story. But for me, even the story is riddled with plot holes or hidden somewhere in the text that I won't take the time to read (as I nor anyone should have to).
In short, though the reason that no one is talking about this DLC is that the entire game was ok at best (7/10) but had the potential to be way better.
It's boring and honestly feels unfinished and confused about where it wants to take the story at certain parts. The 2nd time skip was 100% unnecessary, it pulled the bait and switched, Clive not being able to control Ifrit after coming to terms with what he had done was silly and felt forced. They had a person from DMC there and felt like the only thing they got from him was Style switching (with ekions) and jump canceling. Ignored weapons that could have made varied playstyles. Them making it "dark" is laughable and I feel hurts the story more then helps them. I could go on.
I just hopes that this isn't the way that SE is going as it feels like their games are losing a bit of their creatives and are becoming processed games
Pretty harsh 😂
Finally!! Finally!! someone who just tells it like is. I just finished FF16 the main game,, and honestly im beyond pissed off at this game's ending. Regardless of whether you believe Clive died should have died or whatever...( personally it does the story no favors if he actually died). The ending is so vague utterly depressing It made me question the value of what the story amounted to 🤦🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️...This is a game you want to love so much but has consistently shown that in many ways it is unlovable lolo it's ridiculous. I've been playing RPG's for years!!! People have gotten lazy with the storytelling these day's. That ending was awful. We learn nothing of Clive's friend's so called good life after his journey all we see are Jill and Gav and Edda some pregnant woman we only meet at the end just plain awful. 6/10 for me and I wanted to like this game so much.. probably won't even play DLC unless they change that crap ending. 🤦🏾♂️
@@yungjus1 I am almost certain that they all lived and why I mentioned bait and switch. You will notice at the end Clive had phoenix and the creators power which basically seems to be a massive amp Dion falling from a high height also gives him a chance to be alive as something similar happens when you beat him. They purposely left it like this so they can shill you the DLC and they are already in the talks about a part 2. Where we will probably see a bigger emphasis on people that can naturally use magic and those that where dependant on it as with the crystals missing will give the bearers a large edge over non bearers assuming we stay at the current time
"It was worth it" proceeds to say why it wasn't but but He can't say it outright or the fanboys will go after him.
Lol do you know how often the fanboys come after me? It's wild. The toxic positivity of Final Fantasy.
If twitter is constantly talking about the story, I'm genuinely surprised cause I thought the story was mediocre at best. The themes were discussed at a barely surface level and the actual plot never took me by surprise.
Yeah, the story and characters. Maybe not main plot but definitely instanced pieces. But this? Crickets.
The battle system was too less in ff16 and a 10 dollar 2h dlc cant fix this. The story was good but the rest of the ge was a very big disappointment to the glorious jrpg franchise cause of this bad dmc thing. 0 rpg feeling in combat.
Rawr
Yep, another Rawr down here too
Well said. Very eloquent.
Lmfaooo CHIMKEN TENDERSSSSS❤😂
They're ready to fry 😍
I cared.
Me too.
The change your video title, or at least do better in the future. Integrity is better than shameless clickbaiting, and it comes across in your content
@@jaxsonadams6574 nope. 😂 Hyperbole is not the same as clickbait.
No wonder you hated the dlc playing like that
We said we liked it. We also didn't play that way. Media literacy is tough for you, huh.
Play on FF mode
I am! I'm working through it.
I srop buying dlc
Sometimes it's not even worth the effort to go back
Another day, another UA-camr resorting to hyperbolic click-baity titles to drive views. You don't speak for everyone.
Don't hate the player, hate the game.
100% truth, I miss 2010s era UA-cam. Didn't even really work for the views here either.
@@jameslitz9819sure it did
No one cares because we wanted post game resolution. Not end game fluff
But it was good fluff!
Meh wasnt enough to pull me back in and play through it. I wanted post game dlc wherr you play as Jil and deal with navigating through Clives death. They couldve wrote a plot whete she somehow retains her powers and has to confront Leviathan to truly resolve the state of everything
I would like that more, yeah 😂
The dlc is awful I just wanted more playable characters 😩
really wished FF XVI would take some inspiration from FF VII rebirth. like party members or some acutall FF DNA.
FF XVI is the most disappointing FF game after XIII! even XV has more FF in it and that game has the worst combat and open world ever. from the worst dungeons in XIII to the worst open world... cant believe XVI has the same lame ass "dungeon" design.
FF sure as hell stoppe being FF after IX. X always felt like some other RPG franchise to me. still was good tho!
still waiting for TOTK DLC...
The TotK DLC is probably just as substantial
ff 16 is the best ff game since 14s endwalker period
i do love this game to pieces, despite me constantly dunking on it. we are most critical of what we love.
the story is dark, interesting, easy to follow,, each boss was better than the last and that felt impossible given each boss you encountered, the music is the best music produced in a video game and doesnt just loop over and over but fits perfectly to the pace of each boss fight, the combat feels extremly satisfying and fun to play with, alot to mix and match, the only bad things is that the world feels kinda dead outside story because the side quests are boring and the loot you get is not interresting, and there is no dungeons to farm, :) other than that i just love every minute @@SolaceAndDread
I'm gonna get A PlayStation 5 As soon as I am able❤ I'm definitely looking forward to seeing more of your Streams so please keep us all posted and keep up the great work OK 🎉❤😂
Thank you fren! Happy New year and see you in 2024!
who care touch grass and just play it
i can only say the marketing issue bad marketing when it all came to sony , if this game was not limited plefrom it well went diffrent
Should have just been in base.
for $10 it was a lot more than what most $10 dlc's now days offer
This is fair.
No one cares because the dlc one doesn't make sense in the story because you have to complete sidequest you wouldn't even have available while Jill still can use her powers. 2 hardly any content and gow ragnarok free dlc had more content with better story than ff16 paid content. 3 they advertised the actual big dlc with new eikon abilities, tonberry, and new areas for 2024 making it better to just wait for that to come out than buy echoes of the fallen right now.
I might buy the expansion pass when rising tide come out but it is coming out in right after actual full action rpg games like granblue fantasy relink and final fantasy 7 rebirth so I might still look over it for awhile unless its some masterpiece.
Jill is able to use her powers, she just can't Prime. And honestly she still can, she just runs the risk of losing control.
FFXVI is fucking awesome, best mainline FF since the PS3 hands down. YEAH
Who is this no one and is he in the same room with you?
I freaking care about the dlc because FF16 is a great game!
You dont like it, thats fine!
But stop fishing with low lvl baits, thats just pathetic
Bro did you even watch the video? Jesus Christ
I'll definitely pass this dlc get the second one since it's 3 / 4 times longer (around 10 hours estimated) 🤔.
That would be amazing!
Jesus christ dude fix the colors in your video
The color degradation was done to stop content thieves. This was not my playing experience. Thanks for your concern.
@@SolaceAndDread"content thievs" like anyone would want to steal your shitty gameplay
@@Astreon123 they already DO. don't you have another video to make to get 14 views on? 🤡
biggest hater i've ever seen lmfao.
I finished the main game but probably wont be going back for DLCs. Not really a FF game with it lacking so many of the rpg staples.
I understand this sentiment
@@SolaceAndDread It's in a weird spot, did have some amazing battles and visuals but missing some of that FF charm. With four kids game time and money has to be spent wisely and this one's DLC didn't make the cut. Star Ocean and SMRPG got 100% completed within a few weeks though lol.
@@jd_raven2731 excellent decisions
this launched??? there really isn't anyone talking about it. tbh the full game wasn't worthy of fanfare either, but i thought the shills would come back to pretend this dlc was good
Lol it wasn't BAD. Just... Not needed.
No one cares cause FF16 is ASS
lol tell me how you REALLY feel.
i don't care bc the base game was pretty bad for a ff game.
You didn't like it at all?
