- Hey guys, in this video I demo and review my recently acquired Les Paul Deluxe from 1979! Super rare guitar to be in this good condition, super stoked on how it sounds. Let me know your thoughts down below!
That's a beautiful guitar. 70s Les Paul's are soon going to be Out Of Reach price wise.
Dig it, I got the 2020 50s standard. I’m Les Paul fan, great video
Gibson have reissued the ‘70 Gibson Deluxe with mini Humbuckers in March 2021. Colours Cherry and Goldtop and available in lefties also.
It's not the same though.
No pancake body.
No Wider larger 70s headstock.
No headstock Volute.
No flat Maple cap without carve.
That's a guitar I would love to own before I die! but in white though
Honestly I keep coming back to this vid. You have such a cool energy and a reasonable way of explaining the deluxe. I feel the same way about the Les Paul and what a sound! So damn good
It’s the mini-humbuckers. They may have been exposed to some type of sonic sorcery. Definitely the minhums…
Killer.
i always figured mini humbuckers would've just sounded like bad humbuckers, but they might actually be what i've been looking for. something that has a great & clear top end but can still be really heavy
They sound like a brighter p90 in my opinion! less low mids, more hi mids. sometimes they can be a bit microphonic or squawky like a single coil, but they have a very unique voice. clear top end would definitely be something to describe them with!
An old Norlin beauty. Very nice!
First guitar I ever owned. my dad got it for me when I and the guitar were 10 years old we’re both produced in 79 🤘🏻😂.. it’s still my favorite guitar of all time still own it. It plays and sounds better than anything I’ve ever played
My exact first guitar. Mine was a 75 . Took 2 summers of delivering newspapers to get it for 500$ in 77'
That really is a great tone!
Thanks dude! I play a Vox AC15 :)
Beautiful!
Nice just got a 78
How do you think this would compare a Les Paul Standard custom shop?
I've never owned a custom shop so it would be hard to make an accurate comparison. I know off hand that mini humbuckers are a little brighter and twangier than a typical PAF
@@simonaustin1136 thanks!!!
Cool video
How do these pickups compare to Filtertron pick ups and Gretsch mini humbuckers?
they're actually quite similar. having owned a TV jones in a les paul before, the mini humbuckers have a more clear and microphonic sound, and less fullness overall. but the following tonal characteristics are shared: brighter than a humbucker, a snappy attack, clean up nicely, a little more meat than a single coil, not too noisey
Mine is 9.6 lbs. but you’re Canadian so I have no idea what you are doing?loljk
lol we still use pounds to measure some things, this one was in that range, 9lbs 8oz i beleive
Is a 70s neck profile slimmer than a 60s neck profile?
depends the model, i've played a 71 LP custom that has a nice chunky neck, whereas the deluxe in the video was wide and flat
How much did you pay for this LP back then?
I believe about $3500 CDN
@@simonaustin1136 Nice!
Not sure about the demonstration. Didn't show it off imo
