This pistol still has my respect. It got me out of trouble more than a couple times in an almost 25 year Marine Corps career. I've carried this in my desert home base of 29 Palms to jungles, and back to Iraq, Kuwait, and that Afgan crap pile. Never once had it malfunction on me. When I needed it I had complete faith it would work. I'd still love to see the Springfield XD9 MOD2 tested. Great review guys.
Carried a M9 (same as 92FS) for 2 years in base security (U.S. Navy). I qualified expert with it, now, I own a 92FS. It is a dependable, fun firearm to shoot. But, like you said, it is beautiful, too.
I choose to disagree. Not only do I find them ugly, but the unique slide profile always caused me issues with sight picture, failed regularly both magazine related and hard failures, safety was clearly never made to be used by anyone for anything but a de-cocker at best, the grip too short for my hands, and the only redeeming quality of the pistol was the fixed barrel not needing a Neilson device for a suppressor which is completely invalidated for military service issue. I literally replaced cracked slides, which cracked again within two quarters of range use anyhow. Absolute garbage. Some failures are blamed on other manufacturers making the pistol for the military and the civilian manufactured pistols are better, but I can’t speak to that being any different. I personally despise the M9, but I am glad that it works for you.
@@matthewl67 I understand the issues you mention. They do exist, although I personally never had any of them. Of course, my personal gun was made in Italy in the late nineties, which some say was the peak of 92FS production quality. Also, I do take very good care of the pistol, don't shoot zillions of rounds through it (it is my personal defense gun, not my range gun) and use only new Mec Gar magazines and premium ammo in it. My Beretta has had about seven thousand rounds through it and has never failed to feed or eject even once in twenty years! Regarding the looks, well, I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I trust the Beretta's, with several thousand rounds in the real world type of shooting and no issues. One thing about the Beretta is yes the open slide lets stuff in but it also clears items better then closed guns also. love the video seemed very un bias.
Thanks for doing this test with your gun so I don't have to use mine! After many years of wanting a Beretta, I just picked up a 92a1. I'm not going to run out and sell it, but it's nice to see the limitations of the Beretta 90 series put to the test. I also appreciate the balanced view you guys portray about the fact that the different major designs (dropping block vs Browning tilting bbl and double action vs striker fired) both have their pros and cons. Neither is infallible and the user needs to be aware of the limitations of the one they choose to carry. Overall great content.
Yeah. I'm guessing his region is seeing the same sudden warming that we're getting in the PNW this week. Jumped straight from low 60s to mid 80s, literally overnight.
+LatestFashion and hawkins, My gun's been that dirty before. Climbing through muddy woods and slipping down a burm is a very likely scenario. Saying that guns never get dirty is a little ignorant. Sand is also an extremely likly scenario, especially over in the sandbox, wind will put it in the gun in minutes. The only people who claim these tests are pointless are people who like guns that don't tend to do well in these type of scenarios.
A Stang, I like plenty of guns that don't tend to do well in these types of scenarios; because these types of scenarios, and slipping down berms are not LIKELY scenarios for me. I wipe down my guns with a silicon cloth, everyday after use. In the military, we were taught to take care of our guns; which meant keeping them CLEAN. If my gun got clogged with mud or sand, I would clean it; plain and simple. These gauntlet videos are for entertainment purposes, in my opinion. I wouldn't base my gun buying decisions on them; but, to each his or her own.
This is my #1 favorite gun... I own one in black and one of the inox versions... not only is it a beautiful gun it's one of the most reliable I've had the pleasure of shooting.
Your series of tests are better than scientific. Major Firearm Manufacturers don't do half of the detailed tests that you perform. Thank you for your time and effort. And the serious attention to detail you always perform. It is greatly appreciated. As unfortunately serious storms have destroyed many cities across the USA. One never knows if they and their firearm will be distressed in a hazardous storm.Stay safe, Cheers
Fun test. For my purposes (99% range gun), my 92FS has really shined. It cycles shoddy ammo that other guns won't. Literally never had a misfire in the few thousand rounds I've put through it, including every conceivable brand and bullet design. I'm finally doing some spring and trigger upgrades to it, so I do hope that reliability continues.
My main concern is finding a pistol that can handle NATO and M1152 hot ammo without significantly shortening its service life, feed any kind of flat nose and hollow point, handle 95-100 copper or zinc bullets and also 147 and up, shoots Underwood and Buffalo Bore. In other words, hot and weak loads, light bullets and heavy. Bonus points if some hard cast lead bullets don’t foul the barrel in less than a box.
This is one of my favorite weapons. The first round of tests aren’t really consistent with your other torture tests. In the first round between each test you racked the slide back in the water clearing any debris from the slide. I’d like to se the test done again racking the slide in the water and I’d bet there would be zero malfunctions in the first round. Cool videos.
People can buy a top of the line da/sa or striker fire but learning to clear jams and learn weapon debris recover procedure should be drills that are just as important as re-mag charging drills.
This. There's a reason the military ingrained remedial action drills from basic training. They know it's a matter of when you'll have a malfunction. I had a malfunction in a firefight with my m4, I was behind cover so no huge deal, it had a lot of sand get into the bolt. I immediately applied SPORTS and got back into the fight. People really need to understand that ALL weapons can fail, it's how you train and prepare for when they do.
Love the gauntlet series!! This test really helps to weed out “carry” guns that I’m looking at without having to put my personal weapons through some hard use. That being said I’ve noticed that some time in the first round of the gauntlet you cycle that action in the water a few times and on others like this one you didn’t. First off i love the series and keep it up, i just wanted to point it out in case i missed something and if not something to think about. Thanks for the great work with real worst case scenario testing. It’s much appreciated form the real world! Keep common sense common JVE
I love this gauntlet test. I love you guys. I’ve learned so much over the years from watching you. I think realistically the gun is never really gonna go through much. I think it comes down. Just take care of your stuff and obviously learn what feels good to you and learn its flaws so you’re prepared form in case you ever have to use it in a situation that is very dirty and very nasty.
I can see why the open barrel design would cause these problems in these tests, I'd really like to see a 1,000 round test with an M9 or 92. The reason being as I understand that design is for more reliable ejection, no matter how it performs I'd love to see it happen. Love the content guys thanks as always.
😂 at least 1,000,000 bullets must past the barrel before it's even allowed to be distributed DoD policy you would have to fire over 100,000 bullets before it even shows signs of malfunction A Glock cannot take over 250 rounds before the frame starts melting. Most people don't know this but Beretta 92fs/M9 actually has a trick that can make it full auto or a switch just like a Glock
One of best guns that performed in ur trials in my opinion. Especially u barring it much harder and tougher into those elements compared to other guns you tested. Open slide is great.
Great video. I have always been a fan of the M9 and its variants. In the Marines, I've never not qual'd expert and have never had one jam or malfunction. It's a mechanical device and is subject to the same degraders of function as any other device.
I’ve put that sidearm through hell, literally been my duty weapon for over 15 years and absolutely reliable, from Australia mainly Sydney to the Northern Territories Outback to Afghanistan and Iraq even in some jungle locations unfortunately I can’t say where but this pistol is an absolute beast
I love these reliability tests!!! I like all of your videos, but the tests are probably my favorite!! I will say that I was slightly surprised with the results. I think that I expected the weapon to do better. Good stuff as always though, guys!
I'm still baffled by the fact that the worst performers have been the Sig Sauer P226 Legion and the HK VP9. How strange. Glad you're doing these tests.
More likely than this scenario is a double feed which happens ALL THE TIME to people on the Range with their various guns. M9 open slide design has extreme lowest probability of a double feed vs other 9mms
The actual design of the Beretta M9 is only about 5-7 years older than the Glock 17. The Glock did way, way better because it is a much, much better design for "military type" use in which it gets exposed to various elements.
Just bought my first M9A3 and it was because of your review of it. I love the beretta 92/96 design and believe in it’s quality. Not everyone is going to be having their gun placed in situations of sand, dirt, and/or mud. If it ever is, more than likely not all three at once. It’s dependability has proven itself for decades now and will continue to. Does it have it’s faults, without question, but still it cannot be denied that it is a quality weapon that can protect you and your family members.
I'd say it passed the elements tests. one bobble can be just that a bobble. I'd almost like to see a double run through of the elements tests, to see if it has the same result. Otherwise I tend to think one bobble is within the margin of error. As for how any gun handles the gauntlet, it's interesting to me but, I do believe that it is the extreme, and most of us that simply carry for self defense aren't going to be getting that dirty in between cleanings. But it is interesting. Keep them coming. Love the videos.
OOOOOOH I've been waiting for this test for a while! I'd still carry the Beretta 92/ M9. Mainly because it's a good Resident Evil videogame gun. Cant wait to see you guys do the Browning Hi Power! Or perhaps a head to head of all Army trial handguns.
Too bad every gauntlet test couldn't have the same liquid shit mud consistency of the 92FS test. Some have it a little easier. Love this series though.
@@MrSwitchblade327 which is why they say these tests are not scientific. They have a sample size of one, they can't absolutely guarantee the consistency of the sand, dirt, mud or temperature unless they test all the guns at the same time on the same day. It;s interesting to see where these guns fail, but it should not be used as a basis for inherent reliabilty of one gun over another.
I just picked up my Beretta 92fs Compact M9A1 five days ago and I love it. It's my personal Holy Grail of handguns. I haven't shot it yet, but boy, I can't wait.
@@gringoloko32 WOOOOOOOO!! Have I ever! The more rounds I've put through it, the more it feels and shoots like that gun l played with as a kid. You know...the one where your thumb was the trigger while your index and middle fingers were the barrel. It even has the same amount of recoil. For me, it's beautiful to shoot and I love it.
Thanks for running the M9 through. Being a bit partial to the 92/M9 line of course I was rooting for it to make it all the way. Interesting about the rear of the hammer getting clogged. When I first got my 92fs, I noticed the small opening in the hammer and attached a small piece of electrical tape across the lower rear of the hammer down to the frame. Once the trigger is pulled the tape falls off. Always felt that it would keep junk from getting in that area. Thanks again. I really enjoy these tests. I know y'all focus primarily on the full size but have you given any thought on doing a series with the compacts like the Nano, Glock 43, Shield, etc?
Carried this pistol on my hip through several tours. These tests have more validity than a lot of people give them credit for. Lots of stupid comments like "I'll never put my gun through this". Luckily you won't have to because there are other people fighting the wars. If you're with an infantry unit, you'll put your gun through more than this. In 05' one of our trucks hit an IED and got flipped over into a canal; 1 guys leg was trapped under the truck but his head was above water. I was in the water with him for several hours waiting for a crane to come lift it off him. All in all it was probably close to 12 hours before I was in a place where I could clean my weapon. When I pulled it out of the holster it had surface rust all over, there was all kind of sediment inside due to the open slide design and it wouldn't feed. It's impossible to keep the sand out of the action over there, especially when you're crawling around in it; sleeping in the dirt with it strapped to your leg etc. I personally did not feel this was the right sidearm for desert combat; but I also can't think of a single time I ever reached for my pistol instead of my M16 so it was a moot point I suppose.
Hey Tim, after some more of these tests you should do a "revisit" of the more popular models and rerun them through the basic test. One after another. Just to see which are consistent. Wouldn't take long to run 3-4 pistols through basic test.
Tim Mattheis My buddy just bought another Desert Eagle to my surprise. I said "now you own 2 single shot pistols" He thought the first was a lemon...now he has enough to run a lemonade stand.
Desert Eagles don't work half the time when they are perfectly cleaned and lubed, they are inherently unreliable firearms. I've owned three of them in the past and they are the most picky guns when it comes to ammo and how clean they are, and the 44 Mag version chokes on basically a light coating of dust. Automatic guns in revolver calibers just don't work well.
Tim Mattheis Deagles come with a too heavy recoil spring too. I've seen people cut 1 or 2 coils off their springs and get better results. Theyre super picky too, they're fine in dirt but they FIRST have to be reliable when clean and have everything solid and worked out well, which is NOT reliable for anything more than novelty
CZs please. as someone who carries a CZ 75D PCR and looking to change to the P-07 .40s&w. if you could test the P-01 and/or P-07 that would be awesome.
I don't want to make this test about Beretta but I would like to see the PX4 Storm. Would be interesting to see if the closed slide makes a difference.
I've never done anything like that but when I qualified for armed carry last spring it was rainy day and I had to lay my 92FS in the wet grass several times and the pistol had no issue's with the weather. I cleaned it very carefully when I got home.
I think to make it more accurate (I know it's mainly for entertainment but you know) I suggest that you wash the pistols with the same pattern every time. Just like you do when putting them into the sand and else. Something like three slide racking dipped on the left and three slide racking dipped on the right. I saw how thoroughly you washed the M&P 2.0 between elements and for the M9 it didn't got as much cleaning. Maybe i'm the only one wishing this series to be a more realistic proving ground between different pistols. Just a suggestion.

I trust the Beretta's, with several thousand rounds in the real world type of shooting and no issues. One thing about the Beretta is yes the open slide lets stuff in but it also clears items better then closed guns also. love the video seemed very un bias.
Berettas
While appreciating the purpose behind these tests, I still cringe when watching a weapon being abused like that.
@Rusty Shackleford its*
@Rusty Shackleford "Abuse would be stressing its mechanical properties"
@Rusty Shackleford Thank you for being kind. Wish you a happy day. Or night, whichever comes first.

Too bad there isn't a bucket of lint, sweat and skin cells to test them in.
NODAK WILLY I thought the exact same thing !!!
loving that the gauntlet tests are back!
Yeah. I'm guessing his region is seeing the same sudden warming that we're getting in the PNW this week. Jumped straight from low 60s to mid 80s, literally overnight.
He's not, that I'm aware of. Pretty sure they're in the midwest
you are not wrong. i still get a kick out of seeing what guns hold up to ridiculous circumstances.
For me, its my favorite pistol, visually.
Still waiting on that M9A3 vs. P320 video. :)
Mac, thanks for taking your time and money to do these tests. They are very interesting and telling. Keep them coming please!
This is my #1 favorite gun... I own one in black and one of the inox versions... not only is it a beautiful gun it's one of the most reliable I've had the pleasure of shooting.
Carried a Baretta my whole career on the team without a single hiccup. Great weapon.
@Rafael Acosta Oops... thanks!👍
My take away from this video - keep Mac away from your guns.
mac test a full size px4 storm the rotating barrel should be interesting in these tests
Matthew Beagle Yes!
Matthew Beagle yes ! I carry my PX4 an I want to see what it has to offer to the gauntlet
Matthew Beagle I love my PX4 and so far it's been more reliable than my G22.
purosonoracompa yeah I can't come to grasp of owning a glock but my PX4 is a bullet disposal eats everything.
@purosonoracompa Of course the PX4 is a better designed pistol so I would only expect that.
Check out the Beretta Brigadier. It's specifically designed to handle all the rounds you mentioned.@@mdubb4855
I wonder why the military trains personnel to clean their weapons?
Next test: Drop the pistol in a three day uncleaned porta potty.
Thank you for testing M9!
Id still really like to see Tims lionheart go through the test!
Keep common sense common
JVE
😂 at least 1,000,000 bullets must past the barrel before it's even allowed to be distributed
DoD policy you would have to fire over 100,000 bullets before it even shows signs of malfunction
A Glock cannot take over 250 rounds before the frame starts melting. Most people don't know this but Beretta 92fs/M9 actually has a trick that can make it full auto or a switch just like a Glock
Thanks for doing this test, I really like my m9 it's one of my carry guns and felt it didn't do too bad.
you need to repeat Rex Zero test again to confirm it was not a fluke
Wouldn't that require a repeat test for all pistols to make sure they weren't flukes, also ?
Roger Langley it should, after all the only way to confirm results of a test are to repeat the test to see if the same results are obtained.
I still cant believe how well this thing did with an open barrel
Open slide. An open barrel would be kinda scary
What about testing carry guns. like the shield and glock 43
LCP, Bodyguard and P238
Matt Finneran lol I messaged the same question didn't mean to.. but great idea.. I was thinking same thing.
Matt Finneran i agree. i would also like to see popular carry revolvers as well.
Matt Finneran i carry the 92fs
lafurnace3 lol
Please please run a CZ 75 through the gauntlet!
Awesome! Been waiting for a REAL reliability test for this M9A1 for so long.... many thanks!
exactly as i expected. thank you for doing this test
Please test the H&K USP 9mm
I’ve put that sidearm through hell, literally been my duty weapon for over 15 years and absolutely reliable, from Australia mainly Sydney to the Northern Territories Outback to Afghanistan and Iraq even in some jungle locations unfortunately I can’t say where but this pistol is an absolute beast
for as old the m9 platform is ..it did good I think
I love these reliability tests!!! I like all of your videos, but the tests are probably my favorite!! I will say that I was slightly surprised with the results. I think that I expected the weapon to do better. Good stuff as always though, guys!
I'm still baffled by the fact that the worst performers have been the Sig Sauer P226 Legion and the HK VP9. How strange. Glad you're doing these tests.
Reality and truth. Marketing and beautiful design engineering.
More likely than this scenario is a double feed which happens ALL THE TIME to people on the Range with their various guns. M9 open slide design has extreme lowest probability of a double feed vs other 9mms
damn m9 did pretty good considering the age of the design.
tgrghostrider all the old design firearm's usually do amazing... that's why they are still around to begin with
tgrghostrider such a bad test session compared to the glocks.. think hes a fanboy..
The actual design of the Beretta M9 is only about 5-7 years older than the Glock 17. The Glock did way, way better because it is a much, much better design for "military type" use in which it gets exposed to various elements.
Please do the cz p09/07
mattreeves90 heck yeah... i own both & want to see how they do
kendall culverson same
mattreeves90 yes I own a p09. Want to see it done also
CZ P-10c test please!!!
Does it have it’s faults, without question, but still it cannot be denied that it is a quality weapon that can protect you and your family members.
i personally like the m9/92. it was the first gun i bought when i turned 21 and it still runs after 12 years and 4000 ish rounds.
Awesome! Always wanted to see the M9 go through this test.
Wow. I did not expect that gun to run that well at all
idk why I love these so much
do a Hk USP
Brendan Becnel USP can't fail.
Oh yes it can.......yes it can......*stares at USP tactical*
OOOOOOH I've been waiting for this test for a while! I'd still carry the Beretta 92/ M9. Mainly because it's a good Resident Evil videogame gun.
Cant wait to see you guys do the Browning Hi Power! Or perhaps a head to head of all Army trial handguns.
Too bad every gauntlet test couldn't have the same liquid shit mud consistency of the 92FS test. Some have it a little easier. Love this series though.
Andy Bassham noticed that too
@@MrSwitchblade327 which is why they say these tests are not scientific. They have a sample size of one, they can't absolutely guarantee the consistency of the sand, dirt, mud or temperature unless they test all the guns at the same time on the same day. It;s interesting to see where these guns fail, but it should not be used as a basis for inherent reliabilty of one gun over another.
Lol that description was great
Excellent test. It just confirms Beretta is the No.1 gun
Great video Mac. I've had mine for 25 years now still works well.
Please 1911 test
ricardo destefano InRange did one, having the hammer back kills it.
Tanks, i will wacht
no need, it will fail and fanboys will whine that you used wrong brand of 1911, wrong magazine, wrong ammo profile, etc
Wilson Combat
ricardo destefano I like to see a H&K P30 or H&K USP test.
I just picked up my Beretta 92fs Compact M9A1 five days ago and I love it. It's my personal Holy Grail of handguns. I haven't shot it yet, but boy, I can't wait.
Well have u shot it yet?

I think the gun did above average. Nice job Beretta, and thanks MAC for the test.
The shirt killed me 🤣
cz next you carry a cz i do to. did We choose wisely?
Desert Eagle .50AE? Just for poops and giggles.
Lolz
TheJonesChannel11 it jammed the moment you typed that
If mud got too deep in the barrel it could remove his hand.
After watching this, I’d love to see a torture test of the M9A3
Hey Tim, after some more of these tests you should do a "revisit" of the more popular models and rerun them through the basic test. One after another. Just to see which are consistent. Wouldn't take long to run 3-4 pistols through basic test.
a desert eagle reliability test would be interesting
It would choke before even getting to the water.
FM57 A CZ75 variant then? lol
CZs please.
as someone who carries a CZ 75D PCR and looking to change to the P-07 .40s&w.
if you could test the P-01 and/or P-07 that would be awesome.
also I would be willing to let you use my CZ P-09 .40s&w for your tests if you don't want to use your P-07 9mm
Nickolas McCollum .40 gives em the heebie jeebies.. doesn't like it
I don't want to make this test about Beretta but I would like to see the PX4 Storm. Would be interesting to see if the closed slide makes a difference.
Do soldiers that carried these guns actually use them in battle? Or did they just stay in the holster most of the time?
Ilove 92fs it can last long. No parts replaced 20 yrs & counting.
Just call Larry Vickers, he has some serious slowmo equipment on hand.
I keep mine out of the elements by tucking it up into the shoulder holster under my tuxedo.
I love that weapon
Do a CZ 75 or P01! Please!
YES PLEASE
I think you should test the desert eagle in either 44mag or preferably 50ae.
Lol. I know this is an older video...but as an Italian I laughed pretty hard at your pronunciation of Fiocchi 🤣
been waiting for the M9 since you started this series! I was rooting for it to bull through. Fun show keep it up. 1911 next!
I'm willing to bring out my Fostech Origin 12. I know, I know, it's not a pistol, but it would be bad ass to see go through these tests
If you ever meet your maker. You would to have to explain to Him why you would do such a thing to something so beautiful.
you guys should try the cz 75 p01
