Emma... it's looking AMAZING ! Oh yes.. and Robins... they can become incredibly tame when hunting for worms, and they KNOW that worms will turn up if they see you raking/digging the ground :) I've had robins hopping around within 3 feet of me when weeding my sisters orchard.
Clover is an excellent companion plant for grass in a lawn. In that way you don't need to spread a nitrogen fertilizer later on. Garden center did not sell the seeds (they sold clover killers), so I hand harvested some white and purple clover seeds along the road. The lawn became a lush green play field for the kids. Stay safe, best wishes, greetings from Holland.
What a breath of fresh air - you are so funny and it tickles me when you have a little curse. Hope you can encourage the children in the coming weeks. Roll in the next vlog😂😊😘
Emma your doing a lovely job, your a hard working woman I wish I had your energy I had a heart attack in 2008 and passed away 3 times so I cart do as much on my plot , my plot I pay 10 a year in potters bar , but your right it's a lovely place to be relax and take your time and try and make a plan were to grow your vegetables and flowers , keep up the hard work it looks brilliant love watching you on UA-cam, you make me happy , hope your family are ok 👍😊😊👍
Spreaded the hills around lol too funny haha.. you crack me up ..... i cant believe all that good earth to grow on and you're grassing it over thats half your plot lol.
Ha! I know right? I won’t waste it I promise. I just wasn’t planning on clearing it this year, so I’m not sure what to do with it all. But I’ll dig new beds out as and when I think of stuff to grow. And I read it’s better to have something growing rather than nothing... you know? Like the idea of some fruit trees though... xx
Well done. Keep going it is hard at the beginning but you see the benefits monthly.. We in Newcastle on mt site pay £66 for rent and water only so yeah good value for London. Keep that positive attitude 👍
One for the rook, one for the crow, one to die and one to grow. That's the old saying when it comes to sowing a lawn. :) if all else fails, seed it again in about 2 weeks, then roll it next year :)
They certainly have! I’ve filmed some in advance though so I will have some more coming over the next week. Will try to jeep doing them in between homeschooling... 🙄😵
Oh don’t worry, we are still allowed to the plot and I’m actually quite glad to have some time with the kids! Feel quite lucky actually, I was telling Dave the other day how sad I am that they are growing up so fast and now we have all this time with them!! Amazing! We can all grow together and I’ll be getting them involved and teaching them all the things I worry they wouldn’t learn at school. Like taking care of our planet and taking care of their own mental health. We are growing the sunflower at home now ready to make the hideout. So exciting!! Xx
That back breaking work will get easier. You are using muscles you havent used before. Not just your body but your brain too. Landscaping a bit of land requires knowledge and you will gain it every time you do more of it. When I started my first allotment it was hard, sweaty work and I would ache for days afterwards, But in a years time you will dig a chunk of land over, or lift a bag of compost like it is nothing. You will adapt and you can look back and laugh at how weak you were when you started. Every year is a new experience. Don't give up.
Absolutely you’re right. I do actually feel fitter now. It’s a great work it at the plot! I think I’m just enjoying it so much I keep pushing myself! So eager to get things done. I think I’ll be quite sad when all the hard hard work is over! I’ll be applying for another plot I’m sure! X
Hello from Ontario Canada firstly you make me laugh and I can relate to you on some levels in regards to your new journey! I’m about to start my own in regards to the gardening world difference it’s in my backyard for now so limited but also making me come up with ways to get as much use out of what I have watching a lot of videos lol ! This too is my thing my partner has his Harley so that’s his I feel it’s good for us and works and same as you he’s not bothered but will help if asked and he’s got lots of tools can borrow etc no worries! Soo I only access ytube not on any other social media you mentioned about someone called George? If he is bothering you maybe just put your head phones on or get your man to come and hang around here and there so this fella will see a male presence around you yuck hate those kinda critters! Anyways take care of yourself and loved ones 🐝
Ah, so glad you can relate. It doesn't matter how small the space is, you will be surprised of how much to can grow in a small space! Hope you enjoy your journey and grow lots of yummy things! x
Usually a handful of seed per sq meter Emma then a light rake over .you won't go wrong with amenity seed it has a good mix of different grass seed ..no need to dig as grass will grow almost in anything lol all you will need a hand mower now to cut it of a sheep lmao 😂wow that's a great price for London I pay £63a year including water and I'm in bloody stoke on Trent 🤣🤣
@@emmasallotmentdiaries my plot is approximately 50x15 meters but yes it shocked me lol anyway your doing a cracking job mate and if your ever feeling low give me a shout we have to stick together 😀
The robins known as the woods mans friend, he will follow you around the garden as your digging looking for worms etc etc Top tip... if you lightly raked over the soil after seed sowing (with a leaf rakes best). As far as the back breaking work go’s, trust me getting your blank canvas done now, setting out your beds, making your paths etc etc if VERY hard when you start !! But it’s soooooo much easier when your all done. Keep going it will be easier in the end 😎😎😎 Oh you mentioned Instagram... mines ; mikesup1 if you wanted to see how my first year went last year.
About 8 months but I kept pestering them and eventually they told me there were about 11 plots free in need of a lot of work so I took one! Was worth it x
8 months WOW! I put my name down yesterday on the waiting list with my local council but was told 8 years 😲 should get it just in time for my retirement 😂
Ah well my advice would be to get back in touch and ask if there are any plots available at all, including ones that need a lot of work. Also keep pestering and tell them you are eager to do the work. 8 years is insane, one will come up before then x
Emma I love the sunflower garlands, you so make me lol you google guru it’s amazing and helps you out no end. Emma please don’t think grass just grows. Back with nature they said it only an allotment they said it can’t be that hard can it?I love your enthusiasm and work ethos you do work hard but just think little and often as you will do yourself harm and then the plot will suffer.May be try a rotavator? but it must be used by a complete idiot which counts us out. Love the plantings methods got to try the midsummer solstus dance.why do you think people put plastic bottles on poles for, to stop the birds.
To stop the birds? Jesus I’ll have to get myself some bottles! Not sure I can use a rotavator because I have couch grass? Definitely gonna google that dance! 😂👍🏻
You really need to get some new tools rake level put a couple bags of sand then rake level again and water. You want try and ask the day before you do anything to get the best advice
I really need some new tools! Just don’t have the money at the moment. But I’m making do! And where would the fun be in asking for help before I did the work? 😂😂
@@emmasallotmentdiaries Ok save up and get some new tools and I do enjoy your video's your journey will be well wroth it keep making me laugh you keep me young
Wow £46 a year!!! My plot is a bit smaller than yours, we have free water and allotment shed group where you can buy discount bits like seeds, spuds, and canes, mine cost me this year £9.20 I'm in Suffolk. Hopefully you'll get grass soon 😀

The fox was prob trying to get rid of the human smells in HIS territory lol. Looks like Coochgrass roots,
Well it’s not his. Maybe I’ll wee on it. Worked in my garden when the cat kept digging in it! 😂

Are you sure it was the fox and not one of your allotment 'friends' , it seemed very tidily buried 🤔🤭 xx
Flipping heck I hope not. I’ll have to get that camera soon...
Your hat was fox's treasure, he hid it for safekeeping :)
Greetings from Ohio. Love your videos
Why do you pay for access to rain water. Could you set up your own water butt and use that instead.
The grass is a good idea
