Three days after the inauguration of Taiwan's President Lai Ching-de, the PLA's Eastern Theater of Operations held the "Joint Sword-2024A" military drills around Taiwan for two consecutive days from May 23rd to 24th. It was massive and highly theatrical. However, during the same period, the Zhejiang Maritime Safety Administration of China made a discreet announcement that a semi-submersible vessel had sunk in the East China Sea. As for the cause and whether there were casualties, the officials didn’t make it public. This is very strange. Why did such a large vessel sink during this period?

My question is what was the tugboat/salvage ship doing all the way out there? Was there a sub or something that went down, and they sent the tug to salvage it, but that then sunk too?
it won't be the first time since there was case where tow truck was heavily damaged when the vehicle it was pulling was not in the same weight class. (I think it was a large heavy pull truck or maybe the tow truck wasn't receiving its regular proper maintenance).
Question is what was it trying to pull/salvage.... or did it try to target the undersea cable (again) but was pulled under due to it.... e.g try to pull it but it failed and created a hole in their own ship; USA sent drone or airplane with refuel ability to the region.
