We are so happy to introduce you to our next Featured Artist ... Jane Monteith!
Jane is a contemporary artist based near Barrie, Ontario who works primarily with resin and alcohol ink on yupo paper. Through her many UA-cam tutorials, online courses and her incredibly popular Mod Mini art squares, Jane has quickly established herself as THE go-to for alcohol ink and yupo art.
Jane's work is distinctive, characterized by fun patterns and bright, happy bursts of colour. A self-taught artist, she has become a master of technique. Constantly experimenting, Jane uses different brushes, tools and mediums to apply the alcohol ink to yupo to achieve a variety of colour combinations, textures and effects, before piecing it all together to create her artwork.
For Jane, alcohol ink is the perfect art material: no other medium offers the same vibrancy and deeply saturated colour, through which Jane can express herself in her paintings. Though she starts off with the structure of a colour palette, tools and a vision, alcohol ink truly is a free flowing, uncontrollable medium. In fact, the end result may be something completely different than what she had envisioned. The process has taught Jane not only to release any sense of perfection or control and to enjoy the organic results.
Because alcohol ink has such a short working time, it requires Jane to concentrate solely on her paintings - to focus without distraction on her creative process. The freedom she allows herself and the ability to immerse herself in her own creative world brings her joy on a daily basis.
Jane firmly believes in the importance of community. By supporting other artists, engaging in conversation and exchanging ideas, it helps Jane with her own inspiration and production. She is so open with her process and hopes that by sharing her successes, she can help other artists experiment and expand their skills as well. She regularly offers online courses, video demos and even offers colour palettes and how-to digital downloads via her Instagram page @janelovescolor.
ArtResin recently paid a visit to Jane's studio to chat with her about her alcohol ink process, creativity and why her goal is to continue making art for the rest of her life.
Enjoy

Already a big fan of Jane and her stunning work...this great bio inspires me even more!
Congratulations on being chosen as a Featured Artist! This was a wonderfully inspirational video and I'm excited to try resin over my own work. I have been working with flow acrylics for a while and love the results I am able to achieve but I believe that adding resin over them will really make my artwork "pop"! The one thing that has been holding me back is my indecision of whether to let the resin run over the sides or to tape them off and keep the sides clean... As you said, sometimes you just have to let things go, and experiment to determine which I will eventually like best. Thanks again for the inspiration and I look forward to following you and the fantastic artwork you create!
I really loved when she said that artist should support each other... this shows how welcoming she is towards new learners!!! Keep up the great work

Your awesome!
Beautiful work and so inspirational, but I was wondering how you fix the bottom of those heavy panels, what does she use to fix them on the wall? How do you guys do it?
Do you glue the pieces down so they stay put before you pour the resin on top? You’re an amazing artist 👨🏻🎤
Yes Jane does glue the piece down before pouring. I would reach out to her on her instagram page. She is very responsive and open with her methods :)
Hi Jane, l love your art, l also love working with ink the colours are so vibrant, can you tell me what the liquid is that you drop on the gold ink that separates and makes circles, l find your videos a great inspiration
Isn't Jane's work beautiful? You might have more luck asking Jane on her UA-cam page, or on her Instagram or her Facebook page - she is very active on all her social media accounts!
I know she uses Pinata ink - I believe it might be the Pinata Clean Up solution, but Jane could tell you for sure :)
Hi. I am Johanne and I work with résine too. But i never found a tape who performed well with epoxy. I would like to know what do you use as tape. Thank you very much.
Jane, I love your work. I am an amateur artist and have begun to create in your style. (Without the resin so not quite) Question: I sell approximately 5 pieces a year mostly to friends and I donate to charity auctions, and our art community has two "galleries of our work" a year. I don't advertise, no etsy, no websight, no photo copies only "my" originals. Your work is so unique, would I be crossing any lines by creating similar works and possibly sell/donate a small few? Thank you again for your inspiration, love love your pieces. SueAnn
Hi Sue! Glad you enjoyed the video!
You might have better luck contacting Jane via her UA-cam page ( ua-cam.com/users/jmonteable ) or her website ( www.janemonteith.com/ ) 😊
What can if paper do you work with for the inks and resin....you said in the video but I couldn't understand
Jane likes to use Yupo paper :)
ArtResin thank you
Ive been pulling my hair out using this stuff. Im using it on printed paper on wood and I get bleed thru. Im coating it with 2coats of mod podge and 3 coats of Matte Varnish and still get bleed thru.
Hi Jim - I replied on your other post :)
will Resin change color over time and become dull?
When used as directed ArtResin will keep its high gloss finish for many many years :)
@@ArtresinArtResin will it last longer if I do not display on the direct sun? and how will it stand on high humidity? since I am giving it to someone who lives in asia?
With its advanced UV and Hindered Amine Light Stabilizers, ArtResin is chemically engineered to offer the best protection against yellowing on the market. Even so, it doesn't make sense to deliberately put your artwork in an environment full of UV rays - it makes it much harder for ArtResin's UV stabilization to do its job :) Once cured it is also waterproof so high humidity would not be an issue.
Do you seal the ink before resin?
Hi there! I would definitely test first to make sure your brand of inks don't run or bleed under the resin, but in most cases, it's not necessary to seal. Jane doesn't seal and neither do we here at the ArtResin studio. ArtResin is a sealant in and of itself and also includes 2 different types of light stabilizers to protect against UV damage. It's entirely up to you, however ... if you feel more comfortable pre-sealing, you certainly can go ahead and do so. Hope this helps!
How come you dont mention rex ray as an inspiration?
Yes! There are some great similarities in style between these artists. So bold and vibrant ❤
