I wasn't sure about the looks of the 570S. And then I saw it in the skin and I was SO surprised to see that it is actually the best looking car in the line-up. Pictures and videos don't do it justice, up-close and personal, it's proportions are incredible and the details very interesting. I'm an instant fan.

I had a little track time in one of these yesterday. Wow! The track was wet, with areas of standing water, and I've never driven something so effortlessly quick in those tricky conditions. The chassis is utterly sorted, even a novice like me can pick up on that. Full throttle, hit a puddle, a little wriggle and it almost sorts itself out. It appears to have been designed 'safe', without a tail-happy nature. I was going to drive a Gallardo, but the opportunity arose, and I jumped at the chance....and I'm glad I did!

um, wtf? I've been looking at pictures and videos all week of this car that make it look amazing, somehow the xcar camera guy found the most awkward angles of good looking car and only shot those. Seriously, you guys are really spot on with finding great angles of cars that don't look good, not sure how you managed to make a beautiful car look awkward.
I saw this car in orange....it was the most beautiful car that I have ever seen. Better than any lambo, porsche or even ferrari

I really don't understand those who say this is an ugly car. While I understand that beauty is often in the eye of the beholder, I think it is most clearly the most cohesive and best resolved design they have put out to date. Though I don't include the F1 in that, not because I'm putting that car on a pedestal just that it was so long ago and they have clearly started with a new design language when the first starting producing road cars on a serious and permanent basis in 2011.
I think the rear end in particular is where they have done very well.

What a great job of answering a lot of questions about the car; ones I would want to have answered on a test drive. It looks like the 570S has pretty good ground clearance, which is a real deficiency for most of these supercars. Did you notice this to be true, or did you still scrape, or worry about scraping in some situations?
If I had the money, I'd buy one in a heartbeat. I think it's the most convincing in its class (huracan, 991, R8, etc.)

Excellent technical review and information...one of the best car reviews I have personally seen in sometime. While the car seems amazing on a tangible level....up there with the super cars in its price point...I can't help but feel that something is missing..as you allude to in your review, its lack of personality and soul. I am no where near this cars market so I can only dream..but if I was dropping this kind of cash, I would want to hear the wail of a V8 or SOMETHING that makes it different from Germany or Italy. Maybe its the push towards turbos....excellent car...just not sure it would be for me.

the more i see these cars the more the amg gt looks like such a bargain
yould be nuts to buy this as a daily, unkown reliablity from a company with a poor record. probably super high service costs and the depreciation on non limited mclarens is insane.
the build quality doesnt look great, the interior is pretty spartan.
if your really gonna be parting with this sort of money the gt3 or turbo s just seems like a better option.
that said im super happy to see mclaren doing well and making money i hope it continues!
GT3 will definitely come out to 250k

For roughly same price A new 570s ? or a 2015 458 Italia 1,200 miles on it certified pre owned?
i really want to see the 570s vs a gt3 or gt3rs both kinda in same price range. but if the gt3rs or gt3 has the light weight buckets it wont be a very good comparison. thanks for the video

This is a decision I am trying to make. The rwd huracan is just a tad more money. Man such a touch call. Love the orange and green in both cars.
Call me an idiot, but I prefer the styling of the 570 way more than the 650
the McLaren 570 S is awesome looking super car. Twin turbo V8 sound great. if I could afford this car I would choose it over Porsche 911.

I really like this presenter. He did a good job, I also love the sound of the new mclaren, the 650 and P1 sound just doesn't do it for me!
i'm pretty sure those "early sketches" were made after that car made it to production like most of the "early sketches" you see of every car maker

Lovely Mclaren! Hard for me to see it take the place of the R8 V10 though.. That N/A V10 has one of the greatest sounds of any car on the market, but I do believe Porsche might need to worry significantly about this car. The numbers on this thing will make Porsche step their game up which I'm sure they will do with the new 911 Turbo and Turbo S ;)

They've got the rear looking right, better looking that the 650s. If it had the front off the 12c it would be perfect.
Are the lights actually flickering or is this some kind of shutter effect?

If I went by looks I think it'd go P1>675lt>650S>570S>12C. This car looks pretty good sometimes and other times, not so much.

EVO says you need to push brake a lot to get something, while you say its bang on... Hmmm... I think we deserve explanation. Please come for a beer with 570 and show me what you ment :D
+XCARFilms Beer is yours. Thing is that big percentage of us will probably never have opportunity to test it ourselves, so we rely on your input for our make-your-wish discussions (over beers). As for car, if brakes are efficient, difference in feeling will not stop potential buyers and certainly not affect performance.

Sure but this one is supposed to be the daily sports car, as mentioned by everyone. To have to stand on the brakes is not exactly user friendly. It will be harder to modulate at slower speeds. It might be ok for you on a short test drive but harder to live by daily. Does any of it's rivals have brakes that you have to stand on to work?
I get that it's a very good car and that Mclaren have managed to hold back their obsession with performance and finally realized even super cars need an element of joy so they don't get beaten by other manufacturers. But it's no harm in saying as it is when testing these cars. If it has a difficult brake, then just say it and don't excuse it. Or the engine sound is not exciting compared to the NA R8, just say it as you do in other tests and comparisons. Rather than saying 570S sounds as a normal twin turbo engine, you would normally say "the engine in R8 increases your pulse a lot more as it sounds a lot better for a sports car costing so much".
And actually it's much easier to start manufacturing a small series of exclusive and expensive cars than mass production, specially by a company such as Mclaren with their long history. Pagani, and lately Tesla have proven this. You need a small group of top engineers to start and Mclaren had that already. It gets much harder when production numbers rises, you need to look after your quality so it won't drop and many other problems that suddenly show up, just as it has for Tesla.

This is a great looking car, however most people with the money to spend on a 570s are also likely to have the money for a 650s. It's undoubtedly a great car but if I was in a position later on in life to buy one of these cars I know where my money would go. It would be like choosing a Discovery over a Range Rover - simply doesn't stack up.

damn this car is beautiful and savage. i was an audi r8 fan but the new design is disapointing, and the turbo s is kind of ugly and outdated. This car is my new goal. Mclaren knows how to shame its competitors (including ferrari).

The way income distribution works in US, this is NOT a viable purchase option for middle or even upper-middle class. Either you can afford a bunch of these or you can't.

That one really got the looks. That's a reasons, besides the amount of 150k being a lot of money, why it doesn't feel "cheap" or "entry level".
I will never have to think about buying this or a 911, R8 or something. But this against an R8? No chance for Audi... This against a 911 Turbo S or AMG GT S? Tough decision.
Probably you could also buy a Jaguar F-Type R AND a Morgan 3-Wheeler and get two exiting cars at the same time.

It will become Woking's most important car ever as soon as it becomes a unique road going icon that also happens to have multiple Le Mans victories to brag about, and some. Until then, it's the McLaren F1.
I think it represents a great value proposition. but I don't find it great looking personally. I find myself wanting to like the design choices more than I actually do. however this is a video, maybe it's one of these cars that you have to see in person for the real effect.

Just be careful. The colour green makes wild ones very angry (along with red, blue, black, orange, white, grey and purple). When wild ones are angry, people get killed brutally. In fact if they saw you driving past in this they would most likely leap onto the car and smash their way through the windscreen with claw hammers and sink the hook of the hammer so far into your skull that when they yanked it back out it pulled out half of your brain. I hope you know how dangerous it is to anger the wild ones. I saw them kick a man to death because he had a 540C in orange. They dragged him out and stamped on his head over and over and kicked him with vicious aggression that I have never seen before. If you melt a grape with a blow torch you have a good idea of what that man's head looked like after. You have been warnes

In fact, Porsche makes everything for selection. if you want a turboS, you will need to pay at least 15% more to make your turboS acceptable. Therefore, McLaren 570s is theoretically cheaper.

+kolideoskope I admire how they stick with close to the same design on every new car they produce. They're like Porsche you either like it or hate it. I personnaly prefer the design of a McLaren over a Porsche's design..
+XCARFilms I've got plenty of respect for the company's engineering and performance (even if the engines rely a bit too heavily on turbos for my tastes), but less so the aesthetics. I liked the 12c, but not really the P1 or anything else since. The proportions are off somehow, and too many of the organic feature lines seem unnecessary or out of place. My least favorite feature that McLaren has seen fit to distribute so liberally is the front fascia with the single curved leading edge that's absorbed on either side by the squinty inverted Nike swoosh headlights. It reminds me of a duck bill.
Id take this over a 911 Turbo S, and thats saying something.

+Fernando Alvarado The suspension of the 540C is slightly more focused on daily driving, I'd guess softer and probably a little bit less twitchy. It's also got a slightly detuned engine, 540 hp vs 570 hp in the 570S.
+Fernando Alvarado the 540C was basically made for different markets where emissions laws and other such factors might effect sales, tax and legality. Otherwise it's the same car, just not the full-fat spec.

I appreciate that they're going to compete more-directly with Porsche and Audi. It makes sense.
But the difference at the "lower" price point (i.e. the less-than-super-supercar buyers, and rather the normal humans) is that people care far more whether or not the car is going to *BREAK* on them, and whether they will be able to re-sell it eventually.
Because no one wants to buy something that requires tons of aftermarket repair/support. German cars offer reliability. British cars... well, whats the joke about why the British don't make computers?
There's also the reputation they've earned so far from the MP412CR2D2XYZ, which was "less than stellar"
