The annoying 'phone' interference on this video was not caused by my mobile (which was switched to airplane mode) but thought to be from a 2G tracking device fitted to the vehicle, causing issues with the main camera mic. Live and learn..
Again Harry, great video until 8:40 when the crappy, crappy, shitty, arsey in-car noise starts again. Spend a few quid and do it right or just give the fuck up. Seriously.
Love the videos! At least it covered up the nasty noise from the engine. I would be very disappointed indeed if I spent so much money and got what sounds like a big turbo 4 cylinder with big exhaust sound track.
Was out riding my Daytona and followed a guy drifting one of these up a tight mountain road with flames shooting out the back. The car has a place in my heart now.
Great vid Harry, where you excel over others is in areas like a walk around focusing on design details, an honesty about what you’re testing, good and bad and lastly, a real sense of what a vehicles like to live with. Keep up the good work. (PS EVO isn’t the same without your leadership mate).
Great review as per. Entirely subjective but I think the 570S is the best looking McLaren and by some margin. I wonder what is stopping a 570 S owner getting the engine chipped? .. the standard car has brakes and suspension rated for a 204mph car, so if you boost it to 650bhp and fit a titanium Akrapovich exhaust you have saved yourself a fortune. ... better yet, get a second hand 540C and boost it to 650bhp. ... it's the same engine in them all.
Harry, another gem. Yes I was annoyed by the 2G interference but perhaps as a mark of my high expectations of your professionalism, I checked your comments to see you had already explained how it found its way into the sound track. This car looks magic, sounds magic and I enjoyed the ride (albeit without my derriere being toasted) but loved every corner, every climb, every dip. Thanks for what you do.
Harry is the best at this kind of thing. I could listen to him all day. The 570 looks great. It even sounds great to my ears. I wouldn't bother though with most of the crazy extras and it's a poor show that you have to pay extra for reversing cameras when you get them as standard on superminis nowadays. Small grumble but another Harry classic...
I drove the 570s around Rockingham motor speedway on one of those supercar days, best time ever. So nice to drive, even if it was for only a short time. I did drive the 458 and a Huracan, and a 911S. 458, best sound ever, Huracan, really cramped inside and the 911 easy to drive. But out of all the 570s was awesome and I did extra laps, rear wheel drive and great steering. Top video Harry.
I've always thought that the McLaren badge was poorly designed and unimaginative. The Germans have mostly got it right. BMW, Mercedes and Audi all have simple, elegant and immediately recognisable badges. McLaren should pay someone to make them a proper badge. As far as petrol consumption, you don't have to be an eco-warrior to want a range of more than 165MPH. I used to have an STI and that had a range of not much more than 200 Miles before I had to start looking for a petrol station that sold super. I loved driving the car but I quickly got fed up of the amount of time I spent in or looking for petrol stations.
Nice video! Not sure whether I'm sold on the look of the 540/570 series - they're interesting, but strangely they don't look like exotics for some reason, esp. the rear view. The Porsche 911s and AMG GTs have a clearer identity to me, as luxury sports cars that are more 'normal'.
Great video harry. Having just bought one of these myself, cough, cough, cough. The way to gain access to the engine bay is has follows. Under passenger seat is a plastic panel, lift panel, bit tight but use a screwdriver if you must, does hurt your Pinky's a bit. Retrieve estwing claw hammer, clad in blue leather, £2700 extra, go to rear of vehicle and smash the hell out of the engine cover revealing the gorgeous engine in all its glory. Hope this helps. :-)
Another excellent review from Harry. I have an R8 V10 plus and this might be a natural progression for me, but i had to fit a Capristo exhaust as i wasn't happy with the sound, so not sure i could get over the appliance tone of the twin turbo.
The exhaust sound puts me in mind of an early Lotus Esprit. When he lowers the rear screen, the engin note transports me back to the car chase in The Spy Who Loves Me. Just a pity that the car itself leaves me a bit cold. Sorry McClarren, there's just no want-one-factor.
Well for £200k is a lot for a Mac. I’d rather have the Ferrari Portofino for that. Love the videos Harry. If you want to review my Speciale let me know!
I love these supercar reviews. I think I bought my last car (a whole car) for the price of the paint of the brake calipers on this. Don't get me wrong - if I could, I would. But I can't.
The most 'exotic' car I'd driven before this was my STi. Did a track day in the 570s and will be in love forever. Except for the seat adjustment controls, which randomly reassign themselves and are located in a place suggesting they were deliberately hidden for extra 'fun'. But...what a car. *Edit: Also, I'm close to 6'4" and north of 250lbs and I fit - with a helmet. Bonus!
I have never found these cars particularly attractive. But as always, a great video by Harry. Just waiting for the Ferrari 512BBi - that should be interesting...
Between this and an Audi R8 is a no-brainer,it's laughable that the Audi is even in this price range, but you'd have to really want a McClaren to choose this over a Ferrari,it's a great looking car but again,it's not going to be mistaken for an Italian car any time soon,I feel this is the well healed track day guys choice.
There are lots of people who don’t want a Ferrari and aren’t in luv with the brand, I own a McLaren , I am sure plenty of people feel the same about McLaren, Lamborghini etc However it’s not just about the look, for me, it’s about the drive , the feel of the car , it’s handling , overall performance, having driven its competitors , for me the McLaren is the best drivers car in its class, As a second hand buy nothing really come close.
It's strange to see both imperial and metric readings in one review. Here in Canada we are now 100% metric, however, I started life with imperial until I was 18 when it was changed to metric. I expect in time our golf courses will change from yards to meters. Thanks for the great review Harry.
£195k. That’s £25k more than a fully specc’ed 911 turbo s cab. You do get more drama in the 570 but a performance showdown between the 2 would be interesting. It’s feels like it’s trying to combine the pizzaz of a Ferrari Portofino with the usability and performance of 911 turbo s. Think I’d rather have one or the other, not a combination of the 2.
Agreed, my dad just specced up his 911 Turbo S and it has an OTRP of £162,000 with a LOT of options. I'd be much more tempted to go for that than this McLaren.
Thanks Harry. Travel and a crashed laptop have meant I'm late to the party. I was disappointed by the interior, which I thought looked cheap and, as you pointed out, the panel gaps aren't the best. Shame, I will be taking this one off the Christmas list ;-). Cheers
Approaching 200K is a lot no question, but you get a lot and the performance is huge, a notch above the Audi V10 Plus and Porsche Turbo S imo. If this price is an issue we had a 540C for a couple of months early last year, I used it every day, and the performance is virtually indistinguishable from the 570S. If you are careful with the options
wonderful video Harry. I can feel your slight appreciation from giving this car your full endorsement, hope 2 c u at pebble in August. Do hope u make the trip out.
Another quality Harry video, top notch review as always. (But, also Harry, we need to talk about this audio quality - I think some R&D is in order for the audio system!)
Another great video Harry! Could you do a review of the GTV? Would be great. I drive a 1972 Giulia Super which you're free to have a go in if you want!
The McLaren badge is a stylized Kiwi, Bruce McLaren was a KIwi and we are very proud of him and his achievements, don't knock the badge or you can piss off
Yeah quite a stretch in the range between the 540C coupe and 570S Spider, I'd say try to avoid options as much as possible on these cars, gets crazy quickly.
gaping shut lines - says it all, sadly. Rather like doing a tan interior and leaving all that black everywhere - NAF (replace the black with a darker brown that doesn't cause reflections).
The shut lines were absolutely shocking on a car of this price. I wouldn't be happy having spent the thick end of £200k on a car only to hope that no-one looked at it too carefully.
Apart from the McL vid which is awesome, it that an original Paris-Dakar Tenere Yamaha in the first few minutes of the video? Drooling all over the place here !
I moved my phone away from the PC so many times before I realised it was your phone Harry, anyhoo, the car, I'm not sold, it just seems that for the sort of money your talking about there's not enough drama, some extra noise and a more aggressive front end would in all likelihood tip the balance but who knows, these days you are blessed with a lot of car choices and these price bracket cars need a USP, this 570 just seems a tad too sensible
It's a shame that there are still fairly large gripes with McLarens - for £200k I don't want to be dissapointed by the sound - it should sound amazing. And that tank is too small! For most of this he's not really pushing and he still can't get a tank to last 200 miles. I reckon you'd struggle to do more than 5 laps of the 'ring in one of these.
I’m kind of torn on how I feel about this car. I don’t like that you can’t open the bonnet without McLaren’s special tool, the engine does sound agricultural as you said, and I’m still not keen on the styling. I do like that it’s sort of a surprise to drive because it looks all mad but then it rides really well and is pretty docile at low speed. I think McLaren achieved their objective with this car, but I have doubts about long-term serviceability and if I’d want to undertake the ownership experience; I think I’d still end up with a 991.2 Turbo S in the end.
Thanks Mr Metcalf. I don't trust Mclaren's quality though. I've read and heard about to many things failing and going awry. Good performance, but no thank you.
Great video as usual Harry, but next time please turn off your cell phone or locate it away from your microphone! I thought it was being caused by my own phone until I paused the video and the interference sound paused as well.
Superb video again Harry - keep up the great work - MANY THANKS... (and of course, ignore the idiots who couldn't read your pinned comment at the top, which tells people who can read, that you were not to blame for the 'phone' interference)!
What's with the back lights going on and off? Is it an effect of the video or the car? I'm in my mid-forties and don't even drive - or even have that much interest in cars (I'm a cyclist) but I do love these videos Harry. It's a joy to behold your enthusiasm and I love the techy detail even though I don't understand it!

no worries big man, still a great video.
Again Harry, great video until 8:40 when the crappy, crappy, shitty, arsey in-car noise starts again.

Always a good day when a link for a new Harry's Garage video appears in my inbox.
Especially when it's a Supercar :)
Great video, so much more enjoyable than watching someone endlessly going sideways round a race track.
It is an amazing video
But I like going sideways on a track too
Great review as per. Entirely subjective but I think the 570S is the best looking McLaren and by some margin. John Mclaughlin the camera will be standard in the US as every car must have one.
If there was only one channel to get my car fix, this would be it. Insight and knowledge nobody else can match. Love it.
Harry's videos are always a treat.

Harry the Legend!
Always hit like first before the video starts from Harry's Garage!
Yep even if it’s a car I’m not that into ha
New to this and 30 seconds in...I'm like...wooaaaa that garage! Subscribed :-)
Speaking of Lotus, it would be great to see an Evora 400 on the channel. :)
Waiting for a new Harrys Garage to drop is just as exciting as walking into the news agents and seeing a glossy new Evo magazine on the shelf.
Nice video! Not sure whether I'm sold on the look of the 540/570 series - they're interesting, but strangely they don't look like exotics for some reason, esp. the rear view. The Porsche 911s and AMG GTs have a clearer identity to me, as luxury sports cars that are more 'normal'.
A Mclaren 570S? At Tesco? Why not! Great video Harry.
I saw a 720S outside Lidl.
Most enjoyable, despite your phone trying its hardest to ruin the (otherwise excellent) audio.
really annoying with the phonesignal!
Haha I thought some ones being trying to text me for half an hour! All part of the character Harry!
That tweeter in the middle of the dash is horrific. Great video as always Harry.
Yes, ghastly, not "clever" in the least.
It follows B&W's design first introduced in the Nautilus, I believe - nothing to do with McLaren. Sounds superb BTW.
@@jjjp6848 I'd overlook it if it sounded great. I agree though, it seems like an afterthought at best.
Great video harry. Having just bought one of these myself, cough, cough, cough. The way to gain access to the engine bay is has follows. Another excellent real-world review Harry. Thank you for sharing your experience with the McLaren.
haha, they charge extra to paint the calipers silver... so they look like bog standard unpainted calipers you get on your rental car....
I have seen several of your video and I really like your style of story telling. Keep your video coming. Thank you.
They remind me of Noble but massively expensive for a flimsy, home made thing. Bomb proof Porsche everytime. Great vid though H
Great video. But how can you excuse shocking build quality (shut gaps etc) on a car at this price point when you wouldn't accept it on a skoda?
Another excellent review from Harry. I have an R8 V10 plus and this might be a natural progression for me, but i had to fit a Capristo exhaust as i wasn't happy with the sound, so not sure i could get over the appliance tone of the twin turbo.

Love your videos very much - always a treat when I get the notification. However......please....airplane mode on your phone?
Greg Mortimer - have to agree it totally ruined it for me.
The occasion buzz of the cars 2G tracker signal didn't remotely ruin it for me. Though I was more interested in what Harry was saying to be honest.
It's not his phone, its the press cars tracker, you bellend.
@@barbieandbellaadventuresby9134 then stop watching you whiney little bitch.

"The karaoke mic on the dash" 8:53 That cracked me up, and then kept on cracking me up. I couldn't un-see it as that.

Awesome review, as usual with you dear Harry. Next time please shut the mobile off, the signal noise is really annoying!

Great video as always Harry. Impressive car, stylings a bit dare I say it bland in some areas. Nice to see the GMT getting an outing again!
Great review as always Harry, very insightful. Cannot see or hear the engine, I think this is a detriment to the car.

Great video but please turn your mobile phone off. I've noticed it in a few of your last videos.
Don't mention how good the paddles are Harry. BMW used to do the same. Both paddles did up and down. and they got slatted. i prefer it myself.
Harry why when you press the brake the rear lights don’t light simultaneously ?
Nicolas Nikitakis something to do with LED lights and the camera frame rate - can’t see it with the human eye
Thanks for that explanation. I thought it was McLaren trying to be different...
Looks sensational to drive at speed but is it one of those cars that feels dull when you are cruising?
Great upload, great car, but for that amount of dosh i would expect the shut lines to be perfect.
