100% agree, my opinions are pretty exactly the same. I always thought the people predicting we would get a Troughton season over the last couple years were filled with wishful thinking. And I say that as someone whose favorite Doctor is the 2nd.
2:42 I’ve just been rewatching season 16 and the location filming on the pirate planet and androids of tara looks gorgeous, especially pirate planet. If they have the film stock for those episodes they’ll look great on bluray.
@@AnotherScifiGuy That’s a shame, I watched it last night and it looks really good. Some really nice shot choices, I’m sure it’ll still look good on bluray though.
Its amazing how some of us are in the position where we are buying these stories AGAIN. It wasn’t that long ago whenever people mentioned season boxsets and blu rays that we were told “Theres no market for season boxes” and “There would be no point in upscaling old Who as any difference in quality would be negligible “. Plus, “There will be no more animations “. And here we are. I have lost touch with how many times Ive forked out for Spearhead From Space over the years, and Im buying the damn thing AGAIN in a few months ! The boxes are beautiful and generally I really enjoy the new content. But this is the last time Im handing over money for these things. I’m not 100% convinced the boxes will even be finished with the issues of Season 3 and 4. Even if they go down the animation route, its still going to be years before those mid 60s seasons are on the shelves. Oh well. At least Season 7 is coming. My second favourite season after 13 (which I suspect will come last in the range 🤬🤬) Merry Christmas all. Ill be watching a Pertwee six parter and Planet of Evil this year. Think Ill go for The Time Monster. Thats a daft sparkly story so will go down with my Baileys and mince pies.
I think we will get Peter Davison next. Keen Whovians have seen certain people revisiting filming locations in England! I feel they would alternate between Tom and Jon after that. Giving more time for the 60s who box sets!
I think the order we'll get is 21,1,16,5,11,6, 13, 4, and 3. I think season 5 has a much better chance than 6 since most of the missing episodes have been animated and already had a blu ray release, and the only story to not have an official animation, The Wheel in Space, has a reconstruction on britbox that they could easily reuse. As well as they might want to wait to see if they could animate Space Pirates in the future since it has no telesnaps. Not sure what they'll do with Marco Polo since they probably can't afford to animate a 7 part serial anytime soon with BBC America funding being gone, however most of the telesnaps do exist and they did make a 30 minute reconstruction and could probably just add the full soundtrack or the audiobook of the novel alongside it. Also hope they use some of the budget to fix some of issues with the Reign of Terror animation. 21 is very likely to be next since it is the easiest one to make, and they just finished 7 which was probably very difficult, and 3 is much more likely to be last since it will be the hardest one to make.
Would just like to say that lots of shows have been done in 2d the animation with a hell of a lot more going on in them so for them to do Marco Polo in 2-D it is possible if they have the right team and funding, but I don’t think that the BBC would give them the time or money to do it properly but I do agree that it would be difficult
I would love 21, so we could have complete 5, 6, and 7 runs. Plus, Davison is my favorite Doctor. But, I bet they'll give a Tom so they only have 1 season each left for Jon, Tom, and Peter
My prediction is either season 21 or season 16 next. I do agree with you, on them waiting until after they have sold enough releases of TWG in colour before we get season 6. They could throw us a curve ball & release season 1, I agree, I can't see them animating Marco Polo anytime soon. They have already said that it has too many locations, characters & costume changes that would make it problematic to animate with the budget they have. I think we will get it eventually, but I would be totally fine with them releasing season 1 with a full telesnap recon for that story.
Thats my concern. Seasons 3 and 4 are going to niche products anyway so in a way, they would be better off trying to get them on the shelves sooner rather than later. I suspect only season 13 will attract more than the usual attention outside of hardcore fandom. It would be daft leaving 13 until last. But I feel thats what will happen.
Probability: after season is released, Season 21 will be next. Then 6, but telesnaps for Spare Pirates unless it gets animated. Then 13. Then 11 (restoration work) Making-of for Twin Dilemma sould be great, given the turmoil of production due to industrial action and everything else.
Pirate Planet - replace the original robot parrot doodie effect with a laser beam since the laser nozzle is extending from its beak and not bu-- there's a real question right there, ha@
Believe it or not, back in the day, The Walt Disney Company wanted to turn Marco Polo into a movie but the BBC said no. Shame that a film wasn't made as the original may have been kept. (There has been speculation if Disney might hold the missing episodes if copies were made for writers to pen a script but sadly this isn't true.) The Caves of Androzani: I suppose you could CGI the Magma Beast but would it be worth it?
I think they'll release all the 70's/80's seasons before the 60's, just to give them more time for restoration and possible animations and recoveries. We'll probably get a Baker season next, and my guess would be Season 16. After that, Season 21. That puts some daylight between Season 7 and... Season 11, which nicely splits Tom's two remaining seasons. I'd guess they'll hold Season 13 back until last. All of the above covers them until the second half of 2027, when I think we'll see another Hartnell set. 2027: Season 1. 2028: Season 4 and Season 6 2029: Season 3 and finally...Season 5. We know there are 9, maybe 10 missing episodes out there in the hands of private collectors, and they all appear to be from Seasons 3 to 6 (Including Web of Fear 3). It makes sense to me to hold these sets back as long as possible in the hope of recovering some of them. A lot can happen in three years.
I would guess Season 21 as well. And then 16, 11, 13. The 60s seasons will break this pattern whenever a season is completed with animations. Seasons 4 and 3 will definitely be the last.
I think it’ll be Season 6 in autumn 2025 because we haven’t had a Troughton yet and we have the War Games in colour tonight. I reckon for space pirates they’re going to pull a Crusaders on us like S2.
I’ve zero interest in cutback recolourised stories so hope they don’t make those the default versions in their respective boxes 😮. As long as the original stories are still being released thats all I care about. All this fiddling around with established classics is just another way to get the FOMO crowd to dig out their wallets yet again.
@@AnotherScifiGuy If that's the case, then that's great news. An Unearthly Child needs some serious remastering, but I understand there may not be much they can do for it.
I just wish these sets were coming out at a time when the show was doing better on television. If so, I think we would be getting a lot more because they would have a bigger budget.
@@DemetriusSorvo Not in the slightest. Classic series DVD's and Blu-rays have always outsold NuWho releases. There's a whole subsection of Doctor Who fandom that buys only new series releases and wouldn't touch classic with a barge pole, and those who only buy classic. Casual viewers are never going to buy expensive blu-ray sets. The audience for these classic releases are already pretty much locked in, and the budgets BBC Studios assign them are based on that, not on anything to do with the current show.
