I had a perforated eardrum but didn't know it would be a DQ. The doctor at Meps caught it and told me to remind him to note it on my chart when he was done with our group. When we were done, I was the first out the door. Minutes later, he exited the examining room and shouted, "Who's the guy with the bad ear?". I disappeared further away. I'm grateful to have served four years and the ear healed.
The military says they're struggling to find qualified recruits, but mostly disqualify candidates for the smallest things, even denying waivers. Hell i cant even remember my doctor visits when i was 7, i doubt they keep med records for that long.

When I went to MEPS I told the doctors I was on antidepressants for about 6 months and I was DQ, and after like a month of trying to get all my medical records, doctors notes and my handwritten statements, my recruiter sent everything to try and get a waiver and in less than a month later(my recruiter said it’s the fastest waiver they’ve ever gotten back) I got my waiver and now I’m currently enlisted in the Marines. I was scared to death that I wouldn’t get that waiver but I did and I’m absolutely thankful for that!
Potato Lord i’m about to start the process of enlisting into the AF and am in a similar situation. a few years ago in college i took anti depressants for about 3 months. have any tips for me?
Don’t be afraid guys. Meps is very simple to go through. Also I cannot stress this enough... They do not look at your records at meps (even if you had tricare growing up) the only time they would look at that stuff is if you get hurt in boot camp or if you have a panic attack or something. They don’t go through each recruits records because it would take too long, even with tricare recruits so don’t worry about that. And even if they do find what you hid from them and they separate you, it’s not the end of the world. You don’t get a dishonorable discharge for lying. You would get like a medical discharge (entry level separation) So you’ll be fine no matter what. Anyone who believes that Tricare pulls their records is having the wool pulled over their eyes. My dad was in the Navy and he knows the system.
I’m looking to join the Army and I’m freaking out watching these videos. I’ve never broken a bone or had a surgery in my life but it seems to me like having something as small as a cold could get you DQ. I’ve never had a serious illness that would impair me of being able to be physically fit or perform any duties. I grew up as an Army brat so all of my information is in the Tricare system. Most people will likely tell me that I’d be fine but I over think EVERYTHING so I’m so scared that the smallest thing I could’ve had even as a child might DQ me.😭
one thing I m worried about is that I come from Canada so I lack information about the Canadian forces and their health system. We have electronic records, yet there's still no national database and no future plans for it in Canada. I'm sure the Canadian forces don't have access but still I have no idea what medical professionals do when they're busy.
Then how do people get caught like the guy in this video JT was talking about? Like how did they have his medical records right their if he didn’t get hurt
My family military history Grandfather gets in a knife fight severely injuring the other person with a history of psychiatric illnesses. Is given the choice to join the military or go to prison for many years. Joins the military has a great career, becomes black opps ends up working his was up to high up officer positions. Mom Abuses drugs/liquir growing up goes to substance abuse treatment facilities a long with psychiatric conditions. Still accepted in the military and has a dishonorable discharge. Me I close to maxing out asvab score, am in great shape. DQ because my parents pushed antidepressants on me when I was a kid(10+ years ago). On for a month officially but only took them for a few days. Doc ended up saying they misdiagnosed me.
Had a tumor (benign) removed on my spine when I was 12, I’m 24 now. It was a long process (about a year) getting medical records and for them to review it, been to MEPS 3 times the past few months, got a waiver and cleared. Leaving for boot Feb 25, 2019🤙🏾🤙🏾

I wanna say something that is extremely weird. In my case, I withheld previous medical documents from my previous bout with depression after I dropped out of college. The navy found my student loan debt, but didn't find my medical documents. I then proceeded to apply for my ccw permit and again denied and withheld medical info and they came back and rejected me saying the reason was I rejected is because I denied everything and then submitted apposing documents. Like wtf? Why would I say no and then give you papers saying yes? So I can join the military but not carry a gun. 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
As a Pharm tech I can tell you medications recruits are requesting(I know it’s dumb) are tipping off RDCs to their conditions. Hey I just recently subscribed to your channel. Thank you for your service! I wanted to know if you could make a video pertaining to security clearances.
Oh yeah. I remember trying to cover some stuff up to my recruiter in 2007 right after meps. I was 17 at the time. Nothing too serious, but all I'll say is I wish I could go back lol
They must be paying somebody a lot of money for somebody to get everybodies records When i asked "hey do you have my medical records" they were like no we dont But when i went to a place where i usually go to they said yea She or he im not putting their identity out there but they said this "Each facility records are different which means if u went to the doc for a check up your records would be at that docs office but if you went to a hospital there would not be nothing regarding you in there system its not international i cant just pull up anybodies records" A recruiter later told me if we tell the truth to meps WE have to get the records not them because they dont know where exactly where they are and on the DOD forms it says address of place and medical provider forms on it They get paid to process you and also get you qualified nothing is for free UPDATE: ACCORDING THE THE NAVY TIMES WEBSITE if you had a family member serve in the service supposedly your stuff as a kid gets transfered over to active duty medical records but if you come from a regular family with no military service history you can still lie to get in to me honestly i still think all of it is a psychological trick to make you tell the truth OR yiu could fiddle around with a solid copy from the medical records or stir up some bullshit to get it misdiagnosed I think it depends on the doctors office because i think mine are just on paper not eletronic the real reason why meps cant look at your records is because they dont got shit to do it therefore when your in basic they will most likely look at it Just dont get injuried and i assume you will be good to go

daniel causevic If you are currently taking prescription anxiety meds ( lorazepam, Ativan ect.) I would definitely pause the recruitment process... tell them whatever you want...and talk to your doc. So I told recruiter and he put down no for eveything sense meds and inhaler is no longer in use and been cleared so meps said I was fine and I didn’t mention it sense paper work showed nothing wrong and I said no to it all and I was passed now when I do my hippa should I mention it so I don’t risk fraud enlist ?? Required an background check and a secret clearance. Keep in mind that was war time. In a war, I think the Navy isn’t so hard ass about minor detailed. Don’t blow the ship up and by all means, train in Cuba not in a hot zone. Crashing ships doesn’t look good.
So, I have a concern. I have a burn scar on my Wrist from a heated Iron Oven. I was taking a piece of Cake out and it burned me. Guys I need help I’m thinking about joining the Royal Navy but I do have a kidney disease which isn’t acceptable to join with, annoying part is this particular disease won’t effect me until my mid 40s and I’m 17 now. I’m not planning on having a whole life in the navy but I do want to have a good 5 years or so. What do I do??
What ever kidney disease that is could show up at any time. In your 40s could possibly be the latest it flares up, that doesn't mean it won't happen sooner. I'm not sure how things work in the military over in the UK, but I do know that if you've got something like that and it flares up during basic training, you could get screwed over real quick
I feel like there’s only four ways to get caught if you lied at MEPS. One: YOU Talk, if you kept your mouth shut at MEPS then keep your mouth shut at basic all the way through your military career cuz just one slip someone going to catch that and get you in trouble. TWO: Secret/security clearance- If you have a MOS that’s requires a clearance your going to get caught they will do a thorough background especially your medical records so select a job that does not require that. Three: Tri-Care- if you are dependent of military service member and you went to the hospital under their insurance there going to see all the shit in your medical regardless it’s in the system. Four:Injury/Attack- If your positive that Asthma you had as a kid wont bite you in ass then don’t say shit. But if it’s still giving you problems don’t go plz cuz you could have a attack while in basic there going to look suspicious and ask if that was a pre-existing condition and if u lie there just going to go back and check if that was pre-existing condition. Let’s say you lied about a broken arm and you broke the same arm at basic you will get caught. If you have blisters or cuts at basic and you k you lied about something with your medical seriously stay away from sick bay because medical is not your friend. suck that shit up keep going through your training. Look I don’t recommend lying but it’s your choice at the end of the day u need to know how to play the game, think about it do you really think everyone in the military is completely healthy and we’re honest at MEPS fuck no I have friends who are serving who had Asthma,Heart murmurs, Broken Bones with metals in them, major surgeries, and they all lied to get in because the chances of getting in while you admit something in your medical will sometimes prevent you to serve so if it’s not a problem don’t say shit. All that your going to jail bullshit for lying is a scare tactic to tell the truth. Yes when your in the military they can look at your civilian records cuz you signed that permission away but you have to give them a reason too like talking or getting injured at basic so if they see your healthy you could do your job NP trust they won’t second-guess you and won’t check.
Okay so enlisted as IS/NAT. They've already done background checks on me (I've always been clean with everything, never got in trouble). Am I in the clear then? Under what circumstances would they do medical? I don't understand that part.
cassidy higgins the background check they could easily look at cuz they do have a FBI database so if your clean there’s nothing to worry about. The only time they will do medical is at MEPS but you tell what you want them to know they can’t look at your medical records unless u give them a health insurance and physician name also if u tell them some surgery or meds u took when your twelve they will want those records or don’t tell them anything . So If u don’t say anything they won’t bother because it’s time and money. So when u go to the military follow these 4 steps you will be fine don’t try to tell anyone at boot your past medical history and don’t get injured for them to suspect something after boot camp you will be fine just do your AIT that does not require clearance from the MOS u chose u will be okay.
Especially if someone's been on the civilian side and not dependent on Tricare. Pretty sure Secret/Security only REALLY worry about maintaining a squeaky clean background. Curious as to what they would go through to run something like medical records.
cassidy higgins no trust me they will go through your medical history if your going to a security clearance that’s the only time while your in the military they will check your medical history even if your not tri-care dependent or any suspiciousness. Had a cousin who got caught from the clearance but it really depends.

the usual case of them finding out is if you apply for a mos with security clearance like SEALS, SWWC, Intelligence, master at arms, eod, etc, they can look up your medical records. i am sure that is the story on that kid that jt suits is referring to. same goes with other branches, if you apply for a security clearance job such as special ops, be warned that you gotta fess up your whole life story.
Would they look up medical for IS/NAT? I have a squeaky clean background, no history of anything. I'm not really worried. You said they CAN look up your medical records. Why would they? Under what circumstances?

When i was on probation i was told when i turn 18 i wont be on probation and if a apply for a job i can say i never done a crime if i do that with joining the army will it count as lying
Probation will pop on back ground check, just be honest on that and as long its not a felony or if it is a felony make sure that charge was dismissed because then you're going to need a moral waiver you're going to need a moral waiver regardless
If it doesn’t show up wen they do a live scan don’t mention it trust me they will not find it. If you were never finger printed for it they won’t find it don’t let people scare you
We had a couple guys from my division get sep'd for lying about medical records. One guy got separated breaking apart his razor and cutting himself with it. If i could give any advice just study your start guide and the first few weeks will be much less stressful if you already know rank and recognition/ general orders/chain of command. Your first inspection is around week 2-3 and if you get a question hit your rdc's will beat your ass.
Provide hospitalization records for every medical related issue, take those and present that to the MEPS doctors. Recruiters have been trained to find applicants that are qualified without willfully withholding, lying about medical related matters. Such recruiters that tell unqualified applicants to lie, willfully withhold disqualifying medical information commit a crime. Unqualified applicants can inform a recruiting commander. A recruiting commander is a recruiter's supervisor. Action that can be taken by a recruiting commander to a recruiter is demotion in ranking, possible imprisonment. Do the right thing and be legitimately qualified to enlist. Reasons for a recruiting commander being able to punish lying is because that is breaking Uniform Code of Military Justice, being disobedient to a supervisor and recruiter training.
I don't understand why the Navy is suddenly searching through the recruits' medical records despite being cleared at MEPS? It makes no sense why not do it even before shipping out boot camp it would save a lot of money and time? And how come I've only heard about this case but not everyone elses? Is it isolated? What really happened with that kid that caused the Navy to investigate his medical history despite not flaring up? Was it because of a Security Clerence issue?
Depends. Have you ACTUALLY been diagnosed. Were you prescribed any meds? Are you currently taking meds? If not, how long have you been off of them? You CAN get a waiver- just be honest. Yeah, I found out that Tricare stuff the hard way (USAF not Navy). When this happened to me I did a shit ton of research and at the time (2016) the Navy/USMC didn't convert dependents that had Tricare records over automatically when you enlisted but the Army and USAF did. People always want to go for the elite force over the main ground fighting force.
Just got out of bootcamp, lol your name is all over the stalls there lol
OneTrueNoah dude for real. I just got to A school. His name his legit everywhere. Even on the jood desk. 😂
What division were you I just got out to 😂
Hooyah
The navy is weird. Every other branch just has dicks drawn everywhere
Lol especially in red rover bathrooms
When I went to MEPS I told the doctors I was on antidepressants for about 6 months and I was DQ, and after like a month of trying to get all my medical records, doctors notes and my handwritten statements, my recruiter sent everything to try and get a waiver and in less than a month later(my recruiter said it’s the fastest waiver they’ve ever gotten back) I got my waiver and now I’m currently enlisted in the Marines. I was scared to death that I wouldn’t get that waiver but I did and I’m absolutely thankful for that!
Potato Lord similar story here. It was so scary. Now I have to get through MEPS & A school
I just enlisted 3-4 weeks ago in the marines
Cool life hack, if you’re cleared mentally, you’re fine.
Potato Lord i’m about to start the process of enlisting into the AF and am in a similar situation. a few years ago in college i took anti depressants for about 3 months. have any tips for me?
It's the marines of course you'll get a waiver, navy and airforce would have taken months.
*“I didn’t do it.”*
You would get like a medical discharge (entry level separation)
So you’ll be fine no matter what. Anyone who believes that Tricare pulls their records is having the wool pulled over their eyes. My dad was in the Navy and he knows the system.
This is super helpful. I was wondering if being on Tricare would hinder my chances. Thank you!
Most people will likely tell me that I’d be fine but I over think EVERYTHING so I’m so scared that the smallest thing I could’ve had even as a child might DQ me.😭
Could we go to jail or have any criminal action for lying about medical if we get caught ?
one thing I m worried about is that I come from Canada so I lack information about the Canadian forces and their health system.
You should read the navy times article about how bad shape the fitzgerald was, that ship should of never been deploying in the first place
My family military history
Grandfather gets in a knife fight severely injuring the other person with a history of psychiatric illnesses.
Get the paper saying it was misdiagnosed and you should be fine because if they disqualify you then you can technically sue them
I didn’t lie about anything but I was still worried they would find something just to throw me out lmao
Lol that’s how I was also 😂😂😂
Bro that’s how I feel it’ll be for me

@C Tac I'll call it what I want thank you.

I leave on the 6th, see you there
@DameNunzz Im leaving february 25th 2020!!
I told them about knee surgery and my doc put I had a penicillin allergy when I didn't. Took me pretty much a year to challenge it. After almost two years trying to enlist. I leave April 29th

I was arrested for something before I was 18 but was never charged and was honest with my recruiter he told me to lie to meps and act like it never happened I leave for bootcamp June 3rd lmao
Keep your mouth shut and stick with your story, my friend got separated from our division 9 days before graduation for a tree nut allergy.
Did he open his mouth or did they find out by themselves
He must have
He didn't have to open his mouth it could have gotten on his skin.
with me having 3 open heart surgeries before turning 10... 34 now went ahead told my recruiter got all paper work I needed with a good note from my doc luckily I got cleared to start trying... recently I got a new doc he even said you have no complications of wanting to go bootcamp all blood work levels are normal so your good to go
thats awesome bro !
JTsuits Let’s say i do go to meps end of this like we chatted about an get in bro first thing i’m doing wearing the uniform to the next dr apt lol that would be bad ass 💪🤘

If we know what you are taking, we know what you have and recruits are coming into tranquility and think they can request a medication and because of hippa no one will know but we gotta talk to the RDCs if they ask for anything aside from standard cold packs
Great content as usual! Most of us in the fleet still watch your videos. Keep it up man!

Oh yeah. I remember trying to cover some stuff up to my recruiter in 2007 right after meps. I was 17 at the time. Nothing too serious, but all I'll say is I wish I could go back lol
What happened...
Owen5oh sooooo what happened?
Owen5oh what happened
MEPs is requesting medical records that no longer exist for me! So much for enlisting
Your recruiter can submit a letter stating that's all the records. Had something similar happen and I was fine.
They must be paying somebody a lot of money for somebody to get everybodies records
When i asked "hey do you have my medical records" they were like no we dont
But when i went to a place where i usually go to they said yea
She or he im not putting their identity out there but they said this
"Each facility records are different which means if u went to the doc for a check up your records would be at that docs office but if you went to a hospital there would not be nothing regarding you in there system its not international i cant just pull up anybodies records"
A recruiter later told me if we tell the truth to meps WE have to get the records not them because they dont know where exactly where they are and on the DOD forms it says address of place and medical provider forms on it
They get paid to process you and also get you qualified nothing is for free
UPDATE: ACCORDING THE THE NAVY TIMES WEBSITE if you had a family member serve in the service supposedly your stuff as a kid gets transfered over to active duty medical records but if you come from a regular family with no military service history you can still lie to get in to me honestly i still think all of it is a psychological trick to make you tell the truth
OR yiu could fiddle around with a solid copy from the medical records or stir up some bullshit to get it misdiagnosed
I think it depends on the doctors office because i think mine are just on paper not eletronic the real reason why meps cant look at your records is because they dont got shit to do it therefore when your in basic they will most likely look at it
Just dont get injuried and i assume you will be good to go
No Name interesting stuff
@six bullet is bad at destiny not yet im still the same person i do know a lot of shit that goes on with DOD even tho i dont work with them or for them i know people in the system that do know and im looking to get recruits in even if they have problems everybody deserves a chance to serve if they're motivated enough

Can you get medically cleared from a doctor? If so, how do you go about getting cleared?
I was in the Marines from 1969 to 1975. They took criminals one guy had part of his trigger finger missing. One guy had false teeth. And he was 24 with 2 kids from a ex wife. Many had difficulty reading and writing. Things have sure changed.
So should I disclose I take anxiety meds now but I’m stopping in a week.. and also I had been Baker acted in Florida meaning sent to crazy house cus they thought I was suicidal but I wasn’t and got cleared 3 days in and let go. Should i bring that up? I’ve been told not to say anything about it
I'd say no. But ask your recruiter first
^
daniel causevic If you are currently taking prescription anxiety meds ( lorazepam, Ativan ect.) I would definitely pause the recruitment process... tell them whatever you want...and talk to your doc. Stopping on your own can be extremely dangerous. Realize as well that stopping the meds won’t stop the underlining condition that your taking them for and could make your symptoms much worse. You don’t want to find that out in boot camp, it’s stressful enough as it is.
So whats happening now?
So I have a waiver for post partum anxiety meds I was on from what my recruiter said they only see your prescriptions and if you have an explanation for it and you aren’t on it now you should be good. I was in the same situation as you lol.
I’m super paranoid and don’t wanna have that happens but they cleared me with no waivers and said I was fine and I said I to it all and they passed me but just worried about the hippa

July 30th also an AM excited!
Just a comment, I suffered from asthma for 5 years in my youth. I quit high school and joined the Navy, July 1971. As a GMG3, I was in a group of 13 guys aboard my ship moving nukes around. Required an background check and a secret clearance. Keep in mind that was war time. In a war, I think the Navy isn’t so hard ass about minor detailed. Don’t blow the ship up and by all means, train in Cuba not in a hot zone. Crashing ships doesn’t look good.
You moved nukes?
Mef262728 Yes, I was on a Ammunition Ship. I believe every AE carried them outside the states.
Mef262728 ,All the AE’s are mothballed now. I was a plank owner on my ship. We won every E in the fleet, with hash marks.
So, I have a concern.
I have a burn scar on my Wrist from a heated Iron Oven. I was taking a piece of Cake out and it burned me. It doesn't hurt and its not big, but it's a bump-like scar (my friend is a Doctor, and he said it was normal). Should I hide it under a bandaid? Or disclose it when they ask me? I don't want them to think I have cancer or some shit.
They will probably see it, just say what happened. They will either just nod and say ok or they may ask you for a written explanation. Either way, not a big deal.
I feell in a bMx accident and cut my elbox open.. Had to get about 8 stiches.. that was 2 years ago. Would that disqualify me? i have full feeling in that arm, and it is just like nothing every happened.
they might ask you about the scar at meps ,, i had a scar from a bike crash also ,, just told them i had a cut from when i fell off my bike ,, don't tell them it was a bmx accident lol , just say u fell of ur bike
I grew up with TriCare and had ADD. I lied about ADD on my forms, and the Army never objected, despite them asking me how my ADD is when I had to go to sick all during boot.

I bet he had either a top secret clearance or a job that required a special physical, I think they look into records for either of those
maybe
I think top secret is mainly just bg checks. Why would they test medical unless you give them a reason?
Had this recently happen to me at MEPS I told them I had a bike accident in the past but I didn’t mention that I had a past of UTIs and the doctor pulled it up on the computer even when I had my medical history locked.
MEPS pulls pharmacy records for the past 7 years. However, even though you sign a HIPA release MEPS doesn’t have the time to check every doctors office or medical establishment. What MEPS looks for is red flag prescriptions.
The only one person lies are the recruiter by me showing up on time or then by calling him to see what is going on, just find out they they closed all the doors but when I got back to meps later on the day, just find out that meps wasn’t closed down lol
Frankie Turzyn excuse me what

Do people in the military wear uniforms when they go out for the weekend?
@@ericvargas6770 What are they looking for then?

I leave for boot in march and my rate is engineman. I'm highkey really nervous even though the navy seemed pretty good for you
Ooooooof
I leave for March 19th and my rate is Aircrewman, neat
Can they check your middle school records ??
Just subscribed keep up you vids love to watch about the Navy although i cant get in :( Still great content!👍🏼 I hope one day in the near future the Navy will allow inhalers..
Hey JTsuits, I'm starting to learn about the ranks of the Navy, what is the difference between E1 to E5 ?
you start off as an E-1 ,, and you can make E-5 by a combination of how long you have been in the Navy and also if you pass a test and get a good performance evaluation for ranks E4 and E5
Yo JT I just graduated boot camp Friday and I think it’s pretty interesting that I was In petty officer Sperry’s (from the making a sailor videos) last push ,so just something I just wanted to share
How’d they get caught up
Sucks to be me, I have a disqualifying condition. Should I try getting a waiver?
So if you have tricare they can't look into your stuff?? Or if you don't
If u have tricare they can see
Colorblind, soy allergy, peanut allergy, hurt ankle in HS, lazy eye. I feel like an immigrant denied at the border
I had depression in middle and high school. What should I do if they ask about it? Is it disqualifying?
Depends. Have you ACTUALLY been diagnosed. Were you prescribed any meds? Are you currently taking meds? If not, how long have you been off of them? You CAN get a waiver- just be honest. For example, I think you have to be off of anti-depressants for a year or something like that. It's just a liability thing that the military does to cover their butts.
cassidy higgins Yes, but I’ve been off them for at least 2 years.
@@deepblue153 They'll probably just ask how long you've been off of them. Once you are off for 1.5 years, you're in the clear. You have nothing to worry about.
cassidy higgins Ah ok, thank you :)
@@cassidyhiggins1327 I had a family issue 2 years & faked having depression & suicidal ideations & thoughts just to get get admitted into the hospital just to get away from my family. How can I fix this to let Meps not DQ me or anything. SHould i ask them to give me a polygraph test? Please help
Yeah, I found out that Tricare stuff the hard way (USAF not Navy). When this happened to me I did a shit ton of research and at the time (2016) the Navy/USMC didn't convert dependents that had Tricare records over automatically when you enlisted but the Army and USAF did. They could access your records of course but it would take a while. For anyone going through or who did go through anything like this should go see an Army recruiter. I went to see one 2 months ago and they are offering waivers for fraud enlistment depending on RE-Code. I have an RE-2c and the Army has no problem with it but everyother branch is a hard no. Just be upfront the second time around (or the first if you haven't gone through yet) and be prepared for a long wait.
Also, I was halfway through BMT when this happened and I knew people getting kicked a week before graduation so don't ever think you are safe when you get through MEPS and are at basic for whatever branch.
Dam if you don't mind me asking what happened?
Did they just investigate you randomly or had you visited medical for any reason?
yes what happened?
My Recruiter told me to check the boxes stating I have glasses and the box stating are you in good health everything else is no.
