Hello. A KS gardener here. I always enjoy your videos and read your helpful book. I use your quick method to sow microgreens, but then I put them in blackout for 7 days, followed by a grow light for 7 days. The extended blackout makes them tall and leggy and much easier to cut. They fill out beautifully after being in the light and they mutually support each other and don't flop. I also cut only what I want to eat and leave the rest growing until wanted.
I think we can improve Susan’s method a little bit to make the produce better. For the last 2 days growing, just lifting the lights higher, making the micro-green a little bit leggy on purpose. Then we have big leaves and tall stems😄😄, easy to cut. Done ✅
Thank you, Susan! I also was saddened to lose my winter greens in a cold snap here in New England. Funny thing, though, the corn salad (mache) made it thru the cold temps beautifully. Thank you for the lesson on microgreens...I will definitely use your method.
Susan, thank you for the side-by-side comparison of growing microgreens using the two different methods. I've never grown microgreens before, but after watching your video, I think I'll try growing them using your quicker less-hassle method. Thanks again, and I hope you and Bill are having a great week. ~Margie
I enjoy this video so much Susan . My hubby has gone out to the store just now to buy some seeds for this process , after all , I can't use the seeds I have for my spring pea growing..LoL...Thank you for the lesson , I did not know that the growth period is so quick..
Susan, I really enjoy your videos. Thank you! There are some other models of microgreen growing too. I like the method used by CJ & Mandi at "On the Grow". If you have a spare 20 minutes sometime you might find it worthwhile. This link is to a start-to-finish grow session with red cabbage. Just another source you may someday want to consult. But thx for the informative comparison you provided!
i just found you!! I live over by GU in zone 6b I just planted some micro greens and was concerned about all the white "fuzz" so glad you addressed that! thanks can't wait to learn more from you and GET EXCITED FOR THE GARDEN SHOW THIS WEEKEND!!
It seemed to me that you had some seeds left over in your measuring cup when you sowed your normal version…might account for the weight difference? On a different topic, I overwintered my geraniums using your method and I am astonished at how well it worked, I can’t believe how my “sticks” are now full of fresh growth! Thanks for your videos.
Hi there. I actually did scrape out and plant those last seeds, just did it off-camera to save time. I'm so glad your geraniums overwintered so well. Isn't that awesome?! Take care.
I have only grown peas and Brassica mixes as microgreens, and peas are the only ones that come back with more growth. It won't be as many as the first harvest yielded but it's still extra microgreens!
Hi Susan, thank you for taking the time to find out if there is any different in the growing method.... I really like your easy method! But I would also love to know if you noticed some difference in taste. Love to hear your experience.
A New Hampshire hello Susan! I have a little micro green planter kit that I will be trying soon. Its the round stackable kit. We are under a blanket of snow and my thoughts are turning to organizing our grow light shelving, similar to yours. Where did you get your grow lights? Did they come with those clamps that fit onto your round shelving tubes? Thanks for this helpful video. I miss seeing a planting tray! Here we gardeners go in 2022 :-)
Hello, Diane, from Spokane! I'm using the Stack & Grow set-up from Gardener's Supply: www.gardeners.com/buy/led-stack-n-grow-light-system-2-tier/8608906.html. I started with a single level, loved it so much that I bought a second level, and loved that so much, that I bought a third! Sheesh. If you go to the above link, you'll see how it's all set up.
After second cutting in this case, did you scruff up the soil and use again, like you showed on a previous video with larger micro greens or was the soil too full of roots? Thanks
Hi, Marilyn. I didn't think to mention that I don't do that anymore. After trying it for a few times after that video, I discovered that it's just not worth the effort.
Hi Susan. I live just outside of Colville. I have a question and was wondering if you could help me.I’ve been getting sweet potato 🍠 slips going since first of January. I really want to try and grow. My question is since they like warmth so much, do you think they would do ok in the greenhouse or outside? If I thought our summer was going to be hot like last year, I would not hesitate to plant them outside. What do you think?
Hi, Alice. Nice to meet you! Boy, that's a good question and I wish I had a crystal ball so I'd know what we're going to get this year, weather-wise. We did grow some of our sweet potatoes inside our small hoop house and they did great. We left the doors open once the temperatures were warm. So they'd probably do just fine inside your greenhouse. Even if our summer hadn't been so hot, I believe the sweet potatoes would still have done just fine planted outdoors. Have fun!
@@SusansInTheGarden Hi 👋🏼 Nice to meet you too! Thank you for getting back to me and I think I will plant in the greenhouse. Have a great day. I truly am so tired of the snow. My husband said we got 5-6 more inches yesterday. Ugh~

I got my seeds, soil, and plastic. Just needed a refresher on what to do. Hope I'm having a good salad this weekend! Thanks.
I love your videos! Thank you soooooo much!!! Big hug from Madrid, Spain 💖🌼

Thank you so much, Debi! I'm glad it was helpful.

Thanks for the Is may. Motivate me to get a grow light!
I'm with you Susan microgreens are so easy to grow why complicate matters. I do appreciate the lesson. Thank you

Hello, Sigrid. Both tasted the same to me. I'm glad you enjoyed the video.
@@SusansInTheGarden Thank you Susan for sharing it.
Taste difference between the two batches?
Thanks for the video. Great instruction. You do a good job. 😉
You definitely get fewer greens from the 2nd batch but the taste is still good. Thank you for the nice compliment, Rick!

How often do you water the greens for your method? This was very useful and now I want to try to grow some myself.
Hi, Lisa. Nice to meet you. I bottom-water them whenever the seedling trays feel lightweight (when the soil is dry).
Im curious if you thought they tasted the same? Very good video, thank you?
Yes, they did taste the same, which I kind of was expecting.
Where did you get your smaller black tray?
They came from Greenhouse Megastore.
Have you tried coconut coir? If so, what was the end result vs. the other mixes you spoke of in video?
Hi, Christine. I haven't tried coconut coir yet. I've heard folks give it mixed reviews, though.
Thank you 🤗
