    No amount of success can compensate for failure in the home. Look around Hollywood and we all see failure. Pam did what was best for her family. Huge Applause to her. I wish them many more years of a happiness.

    Being an actor/actress is a job that pays the bills, just like any other career. Some make it a lifestyle and they become a part of the Hollywood insanity. Obviously, Pam and Mark kept it in perspective and did what normal couples do...face life, with all it's ups and downs, together. The word "may" seems to be a key word in journalistic speculation. I doubt she regrets anything as far as her choices, given her options, in life.

    I was on complete disability before I had my first child. My illness has been quite a struggle, but I am so grateful that I was able to be a SAHM! Even as a single parent, I was able to be a Full Time Mom. I can't imagine how anyone could take a 6 week old baby and drop it off at daycare.
    I have friends who as single mothers, had their children raised by daycare. And you can see it in the behavior of their children! Kids need one on one attention.
    The Dauber-Harmons surely could have afforded nannies, which is preferable to daycare, but is not the same as having a parent in the home.

    If you have love of Mark Harmon, why would you want anything else? Guess I'm just envious but I expect that she is still pulling in royalties from Mork & Mindy and does not have to work for financial reasons so I believe she made the choice that was more important to her. So many women today would love to be able to take care of their family and not get paid outside of the home but for financial reasons they have no choice and have to do both.

      Celia, I agree with you about women wishing they could stay home with their kids. I think it’s really important, especially in today’s culture, with so much chaos going on. But, most women have to work in order to pay the bills. Most husbands do not make a lot of money and, the way things have happened in the last 10 years, they are making less than they did then. And we all know inflation keeps going up and up. I had to quit work to take care of my parents. 8 years later I have to find a job. I lived on my savings and credit cards while I was taking care of them. I’m 66. I know I will be working for the rest of my life.

    • @celiagorleski2716

      Patshhi4 I can't believe how much your life sounds like mine. We took care of my mother-in-law for 4 years before she died. Then I helped my dad care for my mom in a different state for her last year and at that point the doctor said my dad needed 24-hour a day care so I stayed with him from fall through spring and my sister watched him during the summer. I had retired on disability which was about half my income and my husband had actually lost his job. So we went through all of our savings and IRA's. And we racked up $140,000 on credit cards. My husband got a job at a casino which paid about 1/3 of what he had been getting and worked there 10 years and they decided they didn't need him anymore so he's currently not working. I have been working to pay off credit cards for about 10 years. My dad helped me some and then he died in 2014 and I'm still trying to sell his estate. Sometime during all of this my daughter and boyfriend were arrested and we are now raising two grandsons ages six and eight. Getting no financial help from the parents and we don't even know who the father is of one of the boys. But they all went to jail. There's no way we would let them take the boys back. With help from my 90 year old aunt who moved here to be close to my sister and me who she considers the only family she has, my credit cards should be getting down closer to $10,000. Of course that's because I borrowed $15,000 from her but when I found I had paid over $5,000 last year on interest, I got up the nerve to ask her. So far she hasn't wanted to talk about any paying back Arrangements and if I don't get it all paid back it can always be taken out of what she is leaving me in her will. I don't even know what it's like anymore to go shopping for fun. All I can think of when I go into a store is that I can't buy anything more. I'm almost 65 and I get called everyday about Medicare. No matter how many phone numbers I block, most of my calls are from telemarketers. I pray that things get better for you. I look back and have no idea how we have almost dug ourself out of this crevice. The last car I bought was in 2007 and took it all out of an IRA and my dad left me a 2002 LeSabre and a 2002 small pickup. I'm pretty sure we will never buy another new car. I would recommend that you use the Dave Ramsey method on your credit cards. By paying off the smallest amount first and going up from there you do get periods of satisfaction because you see that you have paid something off. Other people say start with your highest ones or the ones with the highest interest but you can pay and pay and pay on those and see nothing happening. But when you are able to pay off even one card and then take the amount you put on it and add it to what you were paying on the next lowest one you can see something happening along. Sorry to make this so long but like I said when I read your story I thought I was reading about myself. God bless you.

      Celia Gorleski Thank you for writing. I am so sorry for what has happened to you and your family. A lot of what you wrote does sound like me. I’m glad your aunt was able to help you. Unfortunately for me my family is pretty broke too. My sister, bless her heart, returned to work after Dad’s funeral. They said, sorry for your loss. By the way, you’re fired. This was one of those big foreign companies who had bought her company, and was basically replacing employees with their employees. My sister fought them, won, but didn’t get any money or her job back. Two months after Dad died I had a procedure go wrong in the doctors office, and I became paralyzed. I kept crashing. They finally stabilized me, I had surgery. 6 months later my immune system crashed. About a year later I developed Milwaukee Shoulder Syndrome, as a result of being paralyzed. I lost my dogs. Last year a had I guess a nervous breakdown. I am just now starting to feel like my old self. Never thought that would happen.
      Thanks for telling me about the pay back way. I’ll do that.
      Are these people calling you to get you to use their Medicare insurance program? I only had a few. I tell you, I love my Medicare. Because of all my illnesses I got the supplemental and prescription plans also. I went through AARP. I asked friends who they had. Most had the AARP. You may want to ask your friends who they have. I know it’s different everywhere. The prescription plan is way worth it. I wear these transdermal pain patches. Without Medicare they would be about $725 per month. With Medicare they are about $80. And the plan only costs $95 per month. Let me know if you want any info. I hate to put it this way, but I am glad I am not the only one who has gone through hell and lived to tell about it. Pat 😘

      Patshhi4 - I did want to let you know that I do have my medicare figured out. I am a retired federal employee and have government employee health insurance for a family. Of myself and my husband and my two grandsons . If my husband and I were to enroll in Medicare we would still have to carry the Blue Cross Blue Shield insurance that I get from the government to cover my grandsons. During the time I was working I paid enough into Medicare to cover plan A so that will be the only Medicare that my husband and I take out. I'll continue to pay for my government employee health insurance family plan for $600 a month. Right now the government is picking up the other two-thirds of the bill. Taking that and Medicare would increase our insurance bill by $280 a month and we would still have to pay $600 a month for my two grandsons. So all I have to do is continue the Blue Cross Blue Shield that I have as a separate insurance policy and only get a Medicare card for plan A. My only concern is if president Trump tries to take away some of what the government is currently subsidizing for federal employees retirees and he could take away the 2/3 they are paying for my Blue Cross. I'm assuming something like that would be grandfathered for new retirees. My grandson's would probably qualify for Medicaid but I cannot trust my daughter to have it revalidated every 6 months so I would rather keep what I have. We also have a Blue Cross Blue Shield dental plan that I'll be keeping for my husband and myself where we pay $60 a month and they pay $2,000 coverage on each of us per year. I appreciate the information that you did provide to me and I wanted to get back with you to let you know what my plan was. Hope things can keep improving for you and your situation. Celia

      @patshhi4620 6 років тому

      Celia Gorleski Hi, thanks for writing back. That’s interesting that you are able to have your grandkids on your insurance. I didn’t know that could be done and am glad to hear it. And it will probably help your grandkids that you and not your daughter is paying, if they apply for Medicare. Your daughter has proof she didn’t have the resources to pay. I hope she appreciates the fact you can afford to help her out. It seems nowadays families really have to help each other out, and not just money-wise.
      I would be surprised if Trump really tries to cut the retirees’ pensions. I think he would only do it if he decided not to run for re-election. He knows he would lose their vote, and retired people have the time to talk to each other, whether they were fed employees or not. They would talk to their friends about what Trump did to them.
      Good luck. I hope everything works out for you. Pat

    Family or career? Family. The parent has an opportunity that's only once-in-a-lifetime, to be the primary caregiver in his/her child's life. Building the relationship with one's own children is a great reward. The only regret is if you lose that chance to be a part of your child's growing up. I was a stay-at-home mom. It was my favorite job!!

All I had in mind for a career was wife and mother. Unfortunately, my husband also didn't want to work - he wanted to hang out with his "good buddies", drink, play pool, etc.
