If anyone's confused by the duck being stroked, I think this is why... Henry VIII wrote this song, and when he was courting Anne Boleyn, he once sent her a letter saying "I want to stroke your pretty duckies" (no points for guessing what he means by duckies). That might be the reason, but if it's not, it's a fun coincidence.
I think this piece was for Catherine of Aragon, when they were hapilly married and living a life of pleasure, Catherine once wrote saying: "Our life is parties and games"
Their recorder runs, even on the bass, are just flawless.
In short, they shred hard.
Superb. But the staccato sequence at the end was just SUBLIME. Wonderful interpretation.
More Rennaisance and Baroque Music please …. you’re all really good Artists.
Hello Very good voices. And recorder playing. I love how you interpret this piece and dowland’s “can she excuse my
Wrongs”... bravo!
Now that's what I call good ensemble playing!
The accelerating finale must have been quite something to pull off
Your sync with one another during the recorder part at the end was FLAWLESS. 😍
Love the authentic middle English pronunciation of the lyrics and wonderful playing.
My thoughts exactly! This is such a great version, both vocally and instrumentally.
I believe more Early Modern English but yes! Middle English is more that of Chaucer, etc from 1100-1500
The interesting thing is... it's not middle-English.
She's using modern received pronouncation... but changing company to compan-ey.
I'm not sure what the idea is, but it's certainly far from middle-English.
@@adamjacksonmedia It's probably to preserve the rhyme, while keeping the lyrics understandable
@SquidFan That makes no sense to me.
It would be easier to understand using actual middle-English, than this strange pronouncation.
The breath control towards the end is incredible!
This group sets the bar very high!
Re-awakened to the beauty of the Madrigal, I came upon this delightful and early Henry VIII production in the loveliest ensemble. Deceptively light and ‘easy’, this spritely version is the perfect music for a summer’s day. Thank you!
Did I really hear this ultra funky bass line in the last vocal chorus? Unbelievable!
This is amazing. I love the pronunciation, makes it feel more real!
Is the large recorder part starting at 0:54 original score or is it a contemporary addition?
It's our own arrangement!
That was FABULOUS!!! Musically AND Visually!!!
Just love, love, love this one!!
Thank you. Great fun! Such skillful playing.
Henry VIII: Paſtyme with good companye... 🎶
duck: Aww yiss!
Amazing performance 🔥
That last section sounded really neat. I wonder if the increasing tempo was difficult to communicate with one another?
Wow - die letzte Minute Flötenspiel ist ein nie gehörtes Level!
Fantastic. I bought an alto recorder a while ago. The last time I played a recorder was when I was 8 as a learner instrument before moving onto flute and oboe. But my heart has always been with the recorder. The alto recorder (even a cheap plastic one) has such a lovely profundo, warm sound, I wondered about trying a tenor recorder?? I was worried that my fingers would not stretch, but looking at Ms Chiu, I am wondering whether I could???
pretty freaking awesome
Absolutely beautiful - bravo!
Cheer~~~~an activity that someone does regularly for enjoyment rather than work--- a hobby.😊
Wow!! Good job girls!! What a joy!!
I love this piece ... so uplifting! 💗
just recorder Coltrane sheeting over there. WOW
What a fun performance with staccato to add spice.
It seems like you're into early music's greatest hits. How about l'Homme armée?
Absolutely wonderful. ❤
Incredible Art ❤️
Schön hier ganz zufällig SHENG-FANG zu sehen. Immer mehr gefallen mir Aufnahmen mit diesen Renaissance Blockflöten. Welche Manufaktur hat eure Instrumente hergestellt?
So perfect !!
Pastime with good company
I love, and shall until I die.
Grudge who likes, but none deny,
So God be pleased, thus live will I.
For my pastance,
hunt, sing, and dance,
my heart is set
All goodly sport,
for my comfort,
who shall me let?
Youth must have some dalliance,
of good or ill some pastance.
Company methinks then best,
all thoughts and fancies to digest.
For idleness,
is chief mistress
of vices all.
Then who can say
but mirth and play
is best of all?
Company with honesty,
is virtue, vices to flee.
Company is good and ill,
but every man has his free will.
The best ensue,
the worst eschew,
my mind shall be
virtue to use,
vice to refuse,
thus shall I use me.
In old English.
Passetyme with gude companye,
I love, and shall until I dye.
Gruch who wyll, but none deny,
So God be pleeyd, thus lyfe wyll I.
For my pastaunce:
Hunt, syng, and daunce,
My hert ys sett!
All gudely sport,
Fore my comfort,
Who shall me lett?
Youth wyll have nedes dalyaunce,
Of gude or yll some pastaunce,
Companye me thynketh them best,
All thouts and fansyes to dygest.
For ydleness,
Ys chef mastres
Of vyces all:
Than who can say,
But myrth and play
Ys best of all?
Companye with honeste,
Ys vertu, vyce to flee.
Companye ys gude or yll,
But ev'ry man hath hys frewylle.
The best ensyue,
The worst eschew,
My mynd shall be:
Vertue to use,
Vyce to refuse,
Thus shall use me!
This is SO GREAT.
J'adore de voir interpréter ainsi la musique ainsi avec fraicheur, talent et humour.
Damn, that gave me chills. Very cool.
Last night we were serenaded at Magdalen College by the Madrigals on the River.
It was quite magical and there were very amusing interludes, lest our emotions gushed forth into Isis herself!

super!
extremly well done tx
Very cool! I love it.
I have seen your video a thousand times. Also Dowland's video, 'Can she excuse my wrongs'. It is amazing because of your technique, the interpretive taste, the sweetness that you exude in each phrase, in each note, because of the refined and fine simplicity and because we are not very used to a performer playing two instruments in the same piece. I really love it. Hopefully we can deserve more gifts like this. And until then, truly, thank you very much for your magnificent presents.
nice
Holy cow... that Asian girl can tear it up like Paganini.
This was an absolutely astonishing version of one of my favourites.
