If Steve Rothery’s solo doesn’t hit you emotionally, deep inside, there’s something profoundly wrong. If I made a list of the ten greatest solos I’ve ever heard…this would be the first on my list. I started studying the instrument in 1990. Everybody wanted to play fast. A solo like this one blows the most technical playing away every time. Steve makes that 6 string just sing. His notes soar above the audience.
In my opinion this is the most beautiful guitar solo of all times in all songs in all history of rock music. It burst me to tears every time I listen to it.
These aren't fans, these are Devotees. The fact they can sing along with every song is testament to how good Marillion. Their songs are beautiful tapestries,
Rothery is one of the greatest guitarist of all time. The passion you can hear in his solos cannot be denied. A shame that you will probably never see him on an official greatest guitarist list but you will see Kurt Cobain. BS, I know.
Who cares where you can see him or not? You like his playing, I like his playing and at the end of the day, that's all that matters. In all fairness, he's not a flashy player, but the tone and the emotions that pour out of that guitar, oh my...
Stephen Hackett is up there too. He's on tour doing old Genesis now, with a great backing band. When he does Firth of Fifth.....that guitar solo id out of this world. Steve Rothery is a brilliant guitarist and we all know how great David Gilmour is. The 70's produced brilliant guitarists.
@@delby66 Hurray!!!! Finally someone mentioning Steve Hackett, yeah! What a fine guitarist in his own right, one of my super favorites. Did you see the Live at Hammersmith 2013 with Rothery appearing at the end of Lamia, at about 5:50min.? Great craftsmanship. And, heck yes, Firth of Fith has always been fantastic. Also the ending solo of Supper's Ready, especially Live at the Royal Albert Hall 2013, starting at 2:00:25 onwards, insane, and, like you say, kind of out of this world. Thanks for posting, Stephen!!
that is the problem .. the "non"shredders are underrated....their "shred" is creating deep landscapes with their Playing .... rothery....the edge....the "painters".....
North of Ireland.....I love my country ....Amazing song. Easter is Ireland. I have tears in my eyes... A ghost of a mist was on the field The grey and the green together The noise of a distant farm machine Out of the first light came A tattered necklace of hedge and trees On the southern side of the hill Betrays where the border runs between Where Mary Dunoon's boy fell Easter here again, a time for the blind to see Easter, surely now can all of your hearts be free Out of the port of Liverpool Bound for the NORTH OF IRELAND The wash of the spray and horsetail waves The roll of the sea below And Easter here again, a time for the blind to see Easter, surely now can all of your hearts be free What will you do? Make a stone of your heart? Will you set things right? When you tear them apart? Will you sleep at night? With the plough and the stars alight? What will you do? With the wire and the gun? That'll set things right When it's said and done? Will you sleep at night? Is there so much love to hide? Forgive, Forget Sing 'Never again...'
Marta Ovi .....i’m from Italy, love Marillion and this song is something special; could you pls explain to me the parallalism Easter-Ireland? For me is difficult to understand...thankyou so much and greetings!!! 🤗
Thankyou soooo much for yr answer; it’s sad to hear about that conflict, hope that future will be ...greener than the beautiful Irish grass, and no more blood will flow. Grazie Marta, ciao from Italy! 🤗...(now I understand “forgive-forget-...say never again...) 🌹
When I listen to this song I can't get runrig out of my head ...... aaaaah sooooooo fantastic , I love both bands , love this music , today's music is crap , I need a time machine to go back to my youth, today's young folks have been robbed, Take care xx
no fucking smartphones !!!!! marillion, amazing chord progressions, beautiful pads, spheres..... synth lines, awesome guitarsolos....... masterpiece ! should be rocketed out into space for eternety to remember
If this song does not move you, and warm the cockles of your heart, you need to check for a pulse. What an incredible scene to see thousands of fans sing the song back to the band. Just wow!
It took me 20 years to really understand this song and it is now one of my favourites: It's so light and joyful at the surface and so deep and profound once you get to the bottom of it. Oh yes, and there's this great guitar solo... ;-)
Simply brilliant,i love MARILLION TIL MY LAST BREATH !! Specially this song impresses me every time again and again, masterpiece guitar solo from steve !! Best moment sharing with david gilmores play style !!
This is what a world-class, seasoned-band does: they let the audience sing. And them hit them hard with a stunning performance. Wish I were there. At least, I can still enjoy the show. Again and again. Thank you Marillion.
A few bands just get better with time: Camel (better now than since the mid 70s), IQ, Big Big Train.......and Marillion. They may be totally uncool and untrendy, the critics may hate to love them, but they have made some of the best music ever recorded.
Short and sweet! I am embarrassed big time! 63 year old AND WHERE OH WHERE HAVE I BEEN? Knocked me off my feet completely. I have listened to this band fleetingly and they deserve so much better than that. Wonderful stuff. Mr Rothery makes me listen with close intent, very subtle indeed sir, even classy! A great deal going on there, and when you give yourself several listens, the 'hidden' becomes even more revealed. I'm converted and won over completely. Back catalogue will be pursued with interest. Yip, one in the eye for me!
Utterly superb. The interaction between band and fan is always a difficult one, however, H and his compatriots' ability to remain inclusive is sublime. I just wish I'd been there...Beautiful...
Saw them play this in Pennsylvania a few years ago. Someone in the crowd called for it. Hogarth says, "Easter? F**k it, we'll do it." That was great. It was nothing like this.
Probably my favorite Rothery solo and probably one of my faves period. Nothing technically flashy, but great feeling, and a well-articulated choice of notes...very nice.
Fuck! This is something else. Incredible, beautiful. A band and and the audience fully on the same page. It's just so incredibly emotional to see this x
Such a class band with a top class fan base. This performance bought a tear to my eye. Great vibe. Steve R has to be one of the best melodic guitar players out there, every note just pours with feel and emotion. Bravo.
is it just me or are these guys completely underrated in America how am I ever going to be able to catch a concert that would be like a dream come true and I seen a lot of concerts in the entertainment business for 25 years myself the one band I want to see no way I could ever travel abroad to see them when are they coming to America

Rothery is a very underated guitarist, in my opinion, he's up there with Gilmour
Although they are in a complete different musical universe, Gilmour and Rohterly can get the same feeling and soul every time they do a solo.

Proof that a guitar solo can be brilliant without a 100 notes a second
The most fascinating Band in the whole world, to me. Marillion is a passion.
the most fascinating band indeed! So much passion!

That's what I say about all my favorite bands and artists.. I just find them endlessly fascinating.

Also cryng in here....
i take a bow...this guitar solo is one of the most emotional solos i've ever heard.....so much passion and feeling
As much as I enjoy hearing "Easter" live, like here, I simply adore the studio version. It's iconic.
