►WITH FRIENDS AT ST DAVID'S◀
Following their spellbinding debut performance at the Royal Albert Hall in 2017, Marillion embarked on a new creative journey.
Inspired by performing with their Friends from the Orchestra and the reaction that the live collaboration had created, the band, along with producer Michael Hunter, reimagined a collection of songs from their extensive back catalogue. The resulting music welcomed the rich, textural soundscapes of strings, flute and French horn into the mix.
At the end of 2019 the ensemble, eleven musicians in total including the string quartet In Praise of Folly, flautist Emma Halnan and French Horn player Sam Morris, took the music on a tour that would play to sold out venues across Europe, concluding with another two amazing nights at the Royal Albert Hall.
With Friends at St David's joins the tour in Cardiff at a venue the band had last played some twenty years earlier.
Over two hours of beautifully crafted music and powerful performance, the film presents the full set, including songs from across the last thirty years of the band's repertoire.
SET LIST
Gaza / Beyond You / Seasons End / Estonia / The Hollow Man / The New Kings / The Sky Above The Rain / Zeparated Out / Ocean Cloud / Fantastic Place / This Strange Engine
They made me cry at 15 and it's the same thing, today, at 45 years old... Thanks for all those émotions, Marillion... ✌️ from Québec, Canada 🇨🇦
Hi, which song made you cry, this one?
Cry too
Me too, UK 2023!!!
@@jonhunter8737 Why? Global Warming? Get a grip ffs
This was written in the late 80's. Since then there has been no more change in climate than the usual variations seen over hundreds of years. Co2 changes with increasing temperature, not the other way around. Co2 at the moment is historically very low. I'm in England....it snowed a couple of days ago, which I'm my part of the country has always been pretty unusual
Never really heard Marillion before. 2 minutes, 51 seconds in: I am now a Marillion fan.
david j my mom has loved marillion for 32 year lol plus i have loved it for 12 years my whole life lololo
Welcome as a new Fan, David J.
once caught by this wonderful music, it will last a life time.
Welcome 😉
Hogarth for the win, though. 👍
Gosh. I bought this upon its release with great trepidation after being a huge fish fan. Watched them play this live at Leeds University, that year. Never did I think they’d still be performing it 30 odd years later. Guess what , they get better as the years go on. Steve’s voice is immense. Long live Marillion
I Love Marillian
I saw them at the Liverpool Empire on the Seasons End tour back in... 1989? That was an epic gig and I'm not surprised they're still making music ;)
Absolute musical perfection - so beautiful! To this day I don't understand why people here in America don't appreciate them... But I do! My favorite band!
They’re too used to the fake music from skimpily clad young women etc, they don’t know what real music is.
I'm an American and I love this band for 20 years and counting this is beautiful peace Cecil ❤
@@cecilingram6018 As a Brit I can never forget the generosity of their US fans who stumped up $60,000 when their record company refused to pay for their US Tour, paving the way for them to become the real innovators of internet crowdfunding before it even had a name.
@@clansome i am amazed that that marillion did not take the easy way out and sell their souls for the American dollar and try to be something that they were not and I think that most of their American fans appreciate that I know that I do peace Cecil ❤🙂
Because they actually have a message beyond money and s3x
This is Progressive Life, not only Progressive Rock! 🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🤓
É meu amigo, em se tratando de música não tem pra ninguém... só da a inglesada... já ouviu falar em The Pineapple Thief??? Abraços from London!!!
@@ricardopaiva9731 eu escuto eles, muito bom tb.
More than ever, I agree, this is an amazing song, but a lot of Marillion songs are much worser...

One of Marillions' best songs. I feel like they are such an underrated band. Steve's voice is the best 🧡
Yes... it is so full of nuances and expressiveness. The more time passes, the better I can appreciate its complexity.
They aren't underrated, this comment always appears for some bizarre reason. Do you like them?
@@timwilliams4133
My words!
'Underated' is totally oveused.
Can't read this term anymore.
#
the best group!
If Marillion’s music doesn’t bring tears of emotion you just don’t understand
Goose bumps
I can't gush enough about Steve Rothery's guitar playing. It's so wonderful. He doesn't over-play. He adds so much colour, warmth and mood to Marillion songs.
Steve R, just like Alex Lifeson of Rush fame, never overplay or overshadow the intent of the song.
That's not something easy to do as well as they've done.
@@TB-to8uy Also David Gilmour of Pink Floyd! Sweep pickers I detest these are emotional dream players. Never ceases to amaze me! I adore Marillion old and new!!
This is what we call "talent and genius" !!
I agree, he’s become my favourite guitar player.
Up there with the very best guitar players a bit Gilmour a bit Latimer but a lot of Rothery magic
Marillon's music is enhanced by an orchestra. This song, Estonia, The Sky Above The Rain....all three are enhanced by the additions of this small orchestra. So beautiful!!! I also love the smiles that grace their faces....they feel the energy and beauty of Marillion and the love pouring out from their loyal fans.
These People are Artists. This is fucking Beautiful!
0:54 "This is Seasons End...We are in 1989..." ; Marillion ' s new look and new voice with a new singer....
November 2020 : we have the same emotion listening to this song...
"Marillion has been an emotional mystery since 1981..."
A French Marillion Fan
I just discovered Marillion . What a brilliant song
This song is written for orchestration... What an epic piece this is and remains. Beautiful rendition, perfect instrumentation-balance.
This is why we all love Marillion, absolutely brilliant xx
That's really a "state of the art" band..... they can turn simple things into extraordinary things..... proving us how amezing is to do simple things and turn them into wonderful songs. Long live to Marillion
What a band , been a fan for 40+ years and they still give me goosebumps and make me cry at points in my life ....

Absolutely ❤
83 is pretty old for a conversion but better late than never 😅
One of their greatest songs - goosebumps each time I listen to it.
I would go with that when I bought this album, post fish and started playing it the quality hit me straight away and knew everything would be ok on the marillion front.... for the next 30years !!!!!
One of the greatest bands people bumps whenever I see their name 😀
Oh yes.First heard Ocean Cloud my introduction to Marillion but oh how he does this song.Spellbinding!!
This song and The Space.
Easter + Berlin + Estonia + Space are as well the pure magic ...
might just be the best version of Seasons End ever!!!!
"Better late than never", they say. Somehow it took me years to come across this superb band, but I'm so pleased I did. Wonderful music!❤😊
More than 30 years on and still Magical, just like Steve's voice!!
marc novotny It does seem like yesterday, doesn’t it?
This is a magic band xxx

One of the best songs of all times, a masterpiece 👍👍👍
The lyrics are meaningless
@@doug8515 it's about the climate, global warming and its consequences
If the Marillion ruled the world it would a beautiful world!
What a voice, cant stop listen this song…more then 40 years loving Marillion
Steve Rothery is the most underrated guitarist in the biz. Change my mind.
Change my heart
Cette chanson traverse le temps et me transcende toujours autant... Marillion nous emmène dans son univers musical..
This is music at the highest level.
Thank you Steve Hogarth✌
I saw this in Utrecht, NL, last year. Tears were rolling down during the whole song... When watching this again, goosebumps all over!!
Utrecht was great.
Music/Emotion/Endless Talent rolled up into one (of many) stunning songs - if I could only play this for the rest of my days, I'd be happy!
When YES and Pink Floyd had a beautiful baby they called him/her : MARILLION. Such a great band.
This song proves that you don't need Hubble to see and feel the universe! Thank you Marillion!
The Voice, The Music, The Band..... Marillion
The best band of the World ¡Amazing song!
Just when you think goosebumps can't get any bigger.
Hell yeah x
I am a fish fan, from years back. This is the first time I have heard this. Omg what I have been missing
Never mind what you have missed - just realise all the great stuff you can now catch up with.
Yes,love Marillion with Fish, but Hogarth Is the present..how many beautyful things he brought in This band...bellissimo!!
Many thanks from Ukraine!
A band that never ever disappoints technically, musically or vocally..
Just listened to Easter and wonder why the comments were turned off?
Love this Album.
First saw Marillion in 1983 at Hull City Hall and been a fan since
Gänsehaut, ich liebe Marillion. Und habe viele Konzerte besucht. Grüße aus
BERLIN. Meisterstück von Marillion, aus dem Album. ❤❤❤
H has a pure voice, absolute magic.
Thank you Marillion for changing my life with your beautiful music.
He changed my world finding his great band🤍🖤
Quand la guitare de Steve monte dans l'instrumental, grosse émotion et les larmes aux yeux.😎
Masterclass in live performance.
Been listening to them for 36yrs. With me my entire adult life!
If there's one thing I want to live for forever, it's to listen to and play your music.
This has to be the best band in the world right now.
I love this extraordinary group, Marillion, from many years ago
They are marvelous, magical armonies, a great feeling. They are a great band. Long Life to Marilion!!!🌹
I was fortunate enough to be at this gig and the one twenty years earlier. St David's Hall has a reputation as having amongst the best acoustics in the world and Marillion and their Friends produced an exceptional evening. A friend of mine that works there and hadn't heard them before was stunned, not only by the band, but also the projected visuals as well.
A special mention has to go to Tîm Sidwell and his crew, for producing a brilliant recording of the occasion, yet in the hall on the night, were totally inconspicuous.
Already booked for next year's gig. Fingers firmly crossed.
Hi Andrew - thanks for the compliment re the crew! It was a very special gig to film - we're dead pleased with how it's shaped up. Hope you enjoyed the whole concert film, too.
My two most beloved bands are Genesis and Marillion.
Wonderful concert.
I never knew Marrillion, which might be a good thing. Now I have 46 years of awesome 'new' masterpieces to listen to 🙏🏼💜
welcome, many many masterpieces await you :)
@@johnfell4140 haha thanks! Can't wait...
❤
Beautiful rendition. Absolutely beautiful. Eye watering at the sheer brilliance and talent of all involved!!!
30 years old, still fresh as the daisies, and still blows me away each time I play it... This is a truly splendid live rendition!
Getting close to seasons end
I heard somebody say
That it might never snow again
In England
Snow flakes in a new-born fist
Sledging on a hill
Are these things we'll never see
In England
We'll tell our children's children why
We grew so tall and reached so high
We left our footprints in the earth
And punched a hole right through the sky
We'll tell them how we changed the world
And how we tamed the sea
And seasons they will never know
In England
So watch the old world melt away
A loss regrets could never mend
You never miss it till it's gone
So say goodbye, say goodbye
We'll tell our children's children why
We grew so tall and reached so high
You never miss it till it's gone
So say goodbye, say goodbye
To seasons end
F@%! me, the best underrated band in British history
This song still makes me catch my breath........powerful and beautiful, musical perfection!
Absolutely amazing. What an orchestration. The band, the voice, the string quartet and their friends. Heavenly.
Amazing live vocals from Steve in this song! So strong, so beautiful!
i hope all humans in this planet know this beautiful song... 🤔🤔🤔
What a great, top, awesome band. 😀👍👍👍👍👍🥰🥰🥰🥰
What should I say?! This one of my favorite marillion songs. It's a fantastic live version! Fantastic musik.
J adore Marillion depuis le debut mais pour moi cette chanson est dans le top dix des meilleurs du groupe
This song always takes me to another place everytime I hear it. Soooooo good.
After all this years, they are still brilliant.
Marillion were ahead of time...big songs big stories that couldn't be commercialised for radio... except for the odd one...as musicians they were exceptional...loved by rockers that could also dream... legends
What do you mean by "were"?
Never get tired of listening to this song, gets me every time
Marillion walks in you heard, brain and soul❤
The best of the best!!!👏👏👏👏👏
Clean sound. Great voice. Another magical moment offered by Steve and his friends. Carry on guys !
I so look forward to the day that I can go and watch Marillion live in concert!

Steve "David" Rothery
Steve Gilmour😉😁Great feelings
I love this song and this version - fantastic.
I know the lads appreciate it but they really do have the best fans. The crowd always get it. Of course there is not one weak link in Marillion they are all the best at what they do.
En attendant leur retour sur scène....... Marilion ❤❤❤❤❤❤
A classic, timeless lyrics and Rothery's solo is stunning.
How sad he lost his voice.. how amazing we have the historical records… still have sound of young beaming voice.. nothing lasts forever… sad to see it in front of our eyes
That,s very good music Marillion
Surely one of the best songs ever.
