- When it comes to iconic roles in film, we can’t imagine anyone else playing them but the actor we know now. Can you imagine Michael Corleone and Vito Corleone being played by any actors other than Al Pacino and Marlon Brando? The Godfather would have been a very different movie.
But today we know that studio executives weren’t keen on having Al Pacino as Michael Corleone, and other great actors like Laurence Olivier and Burt Lancaster were considered for the role of Vito Corleone.
It’s no secret that Hollywood is a super competitive industry where even A-list actors have to scrap it out for big parts. Here are 17 roles in Hollywood everyone went after.

What other roles do you think should've made this list?
alex forrest from fatal attraction and glenn close really had to push hard to get the role
Lisbeth Salander in David Fincher's "Girl with a Dragon Tattoo," Carol Danvers in the MCU's "Captain Marvel."
LISBETH
The movie Speed was offered to Hally Berry and she turned it down so they chose Sandra Bullock.
Didn't they also have someone else do the role of Strider before the current actor who got the role in the Hobbit?
Amy Dunne is the most complex for sure. Rosamund Pike nailed it in a way I cant even explain
Eduardo Fernandes Yes. She was amazing
So true
The original script was even better than the film.
What’s so complex about a crazy bitch?
Rosamund has dead eyes. Thats why she nailed it.
Gone Girl was just outrageously AMAZING!!
Agreed. I think it's a masterpiece, both book and movie.
Watched it this winter. Did not expect that level of film from it. Utterly blown away.
Of course, it's by David Fincher, what did you expect?
@@arvy7765 you mean its Ben Affleck, what did you expect. Lol HANKS/AFFLECK 2020
@@brownie_shenandoah Batman says "hi" in low tone
The most scary thought of all of these is that someone else could've been Harry Potter. ..
bri thomas True! LOL
Yeah... like someone who could act. scary as shit..
Nah, that's one of the least. I'm sure there were a hundred kids that could have done just as well. It's a kid's role, the actor isn't expected to give an Oscar worthy performance and so it's pretty easy to fill.
Parallaxus because the only expectation of a child actor is to be shitty? Yes, its a child's role but it couldve been a better child actor
Children don't have the skill, the talent, the knowledge, or the maturity to bring to roles acting greatness that the best adult actors have to give. It's like picking people to play on the grade school basketball team. The kids all suck. There's not much of a skill gap between best and worst, as opposed to professional basketball. They're the cream of the crop. So, yeah, when you have a thousand kids audition for the role of Harry, there are prob a hundred who would do just fine. They're pretty much just looking for someone who looks the role.
Not casting Cara Delevingne is always a good move for any director.
Agreed
Cokeman fr fr
The Tree in Spring Day cause some day she's a model and should just stick to modeling
Why? Never seen her act but why!?
@@haileyfrancine307 She's terrible at acting.
Rosamund Pike was the absolute perfect choice for Amy Dunne. I love the other options but she was definitely MEANT for that role! Thank god they went with her! Rosamund is Amy!
If not Rosamund, then Natalie or Charlize would have been wonderful as well.
@@mlitt1995 I can see Charlize as Amy but not Natalie for some reason
Pretty sure all the people who didnt get cast in Fifty Shades are happy they avoided that career bomb.
At the same time it may have saved the movie
Skipper but Dakota Johnson is getting a lot of good roles after 50 shades though
Jamie and Dakota are really famous now bc of the movies. It may not be good, but they owned they're career to 50SOF.
Your life is a career bomb.
The fact is that no one wanted to take over the male role!
When I think about Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele, shouldn't the studio have test screen the chemistry between the two actors before casting.
I know. I feel so uncomfortable for them.
I assume they did that with Dakota and Charlie Hunnam. But when he dropped out, they had to scramble to find a replacement and I guess they didn't have time to do a chemistry test with Dakota again.
Elektra Nachos Exactly
Timmy Nguyen that entire movie was casted poorly.. 😢
Amanda not many actors wanted to do it. They've worked with whoever they got.
Rosamund Pike IS Amy Dunne. Period.
I read the book and yep, she nails the pesonallity of Amy
She NAILED that part!
I feel like, even though Rosamund Pike did a superb job in the role, the other noted actresses in this vid would still have been better. They're all more tailor suited to the role.
She is perfect
not really.
Elizabeth Olsen was offered the part as Rey but she refused because she already had a huge Disney part with Marvel studios as Scarlet Witch.
I would have loved to see her as Rey.
i think she would have been amazing as rey but i love her as wanda too much
Elizabeth Olsen definitely made the better choice. She probably made way more money in the MCU than a few Star Wars movies. Those actors never get other roles outside of SW.
I'm pretty sure Daisy was Abrams first choice.
@@module15 I read that they wanted an unknown. Also given the fact that Rey was set up as Palpatine 's granddaughter. They probably would have cast a Brit, an Australian or someone from Ireland. Because they tend to cast people with British accents to play aristocrats.
Katie Holmes as Wonder Woman, hahaha.
Katie Holmes as anything, hahaha.
Sabalghoo you guys are savages. Hahahahahaha
DanPiperWillow hahahaha
Gal was a great great wonderwoman
Liz yes
Zack Efron as Han Solo? BWAHAHAHA
Homosexual Gutierrez ikr
Homosexual Gutierrez Actually, maybe it would have been a good change for him. We only see him in comedy films now, so maybe he wanted to do it as a lift off to more serious and non-Seth rogen like films. We haven't really got to see his full potential
He wants the serious roles bad, but he's not making headway. I think he's given up for now.
they chosen the actor like 3 months ago.
Jake Grover who are you.
I'm so glad they casted Gal Gadot, she's perfect for the role
I wouldn't say perfect, but she did great.
Michelle she cant act though
Michelle yes
She's perfect as the image but she's not a perfect actress
I really like her too and I think it's sad, that a lot of people are hating on her because she's from Israel.
Michael Fassbender would be a pretty badass bond
don't understand the fascination w/this guy - Tom Hardy or Henry Caville can be better.
What about Idris Elba, he could be a great James Bond
im pretty sure henry cavill will get the part no doubt!!! perfect pick for bond
Hershey11 He also had dark hair. So what, it's completely irrelevant to the character.
Hershey11 The Bond character has been commercialized so much that it doesnt even matter at this point. It could use some fresh air. Back when Bond was written, it was unacceptable to potray him as a black character. But times have changed.
I'm glad they chose Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman. She kicked ass.
But can you imagine the laugh-fest that would be Katie Holmes as Wonderwoman?
Agreed, also did you know she was pregnant while shooting that role 😂😂
She did very well. I always wonder, though, why Lynn Collins didn't try out for it. She was perfect.
Should have been priyanka Chopra
I absolutely love Gal Gadot but honestly Wonder Woman wasn’t that good
50 Shades had the worst casting leads ever they have no chemistry 😒
Watching their interviews together is painful. They come off as unable to stand being around each other.
The movies are hard to watch but you want to watch them to see what all the hype was about
J Michelle one on the many reasons that movies doesn’t work!
I don't know - the flatness of the Total Recall remake would give it a run for its money.
Jenny R I had faith in him to pull off Christian I think he would have pulled it off way better if he had a better co star cause she was awful
Can't believe these people passed on SAOIRSE RONAN
Norman loves Memes I haven't seen that movie but I would've gone if she was starring. very good actress and I can picture her in that role.
She's a great actress!!
Norman loves Memes I don't think she wanted to appear in sequel where she will be contracted. I think she will be in movies, where she will try and get the Oscars. Doesn't make sense that she didn't win the Oscars. She played an Irish immigrant, while Brie Larson played a single mother.
YES
Timmy Nguyen not just a single mother. someone who was kidnapped at the age of 17, bore a son of her kidnapper, and then only got to escape in her early 20s. and she had to overcome all the traumatic experiences after all those, while being a mother to her child. brie larson executed that role perfectly, and she deserved that oscar. i love saoirse ronan, but she was nothing compared to brie in that season.
So Michelle Pfeiffer had an issue with the subject matter of The Silence of the Lambs and Pretty Woman, but not Scarface.
D.J. Martin The sad thing is she would've been great as Clarice. Foster was too young.
Jodie Foster is amazing as Clarice !!! No one could pull it off better than her !!! she is fit for the role and definitely deserves the Oscar !!!
Richardson Sorokhaibam She was deserving. But Michelle would've been great. there's a reason she was first choice.
Michelle Pfeiffer in Scarface was sooo annoying. All her character did was whine and wear cute clothes.
D.J. Martin Haha true
Rosemund Pike was perfect as Amy. I like Reese but glad Amy got the part.
Why is this called roles "everyone went after" when half the roles feature commentary about actors who DID NOT want the part?
Well dammit, I fell for it, didn't I?
kaduzy I don't get it
No mention of how every young actress in Hollywood had clamored to play Lisbeth Salander in David Fincher's adaptation of "Girl with the Dragon Tattoo"?
Elektra Nachos Rooney was perfect
I'm still salty they never finished what was suppose to be a trilogy but now they're planning on to reboot it with a whole new cast
Rooney wants to play Lisbeth again but it's because Daniel Craig doesn't want to play that role again :(
Elektra Nachos h
If you don't mind subtitles, you can watch the Swedish film trilogy from 2009. I read the books first and then watched the American version of "Dragon Tattoo". I got tired of waiting for the other two movies and then realized the Swedish films were on Netflix and really good.
if Ian somerhalder played Christian grey... I would've been a happier person WTF WHY WASNT HE
Alena Koala YOU ARE KIDING WITH THOSE FREKY EYES.
Alena Koala way too pretty. Pretty men have zero raunch and sexual charisma
I think so too... Wait they should make a remake with him....😊
the actors of 50 shades of grey seem like they hate each other in real life. zero chemistry
vi you've followed them "in real life" to know?
vi ugh yes
Horrible source material leads to horrible movies.
A lot of these didn't sound like roles everyone wanted... just roles they considered a few different now big named celebrities for...
He said the whole universe too😂😂
If Alexander Skarsgård played in '50 shades of grey' I would rewatch that movie every night 😂
Natasa Ma same here!
he's too old, though I agree he's hot
Oh god YES!!
Yup, definently
Me too!
Vivian Leigh was destined to play Scarlett. The best there could have ever been!
Rosamund Pike was perfect as Amy Dunne!
Yes, she was
True that
Good job casting Wonder Woman; she just screams Amazon Princess!!
I cannot imagine anybody but Jodie being Clarice. She was perfect in that role! The Silence of the Lambs is one of my favorite movies.
Unknowns are the best. Movie making magic
It's amazing so many actors were creaming themselves to play Christian Gray and Anastasia Steele when they're both completely shit roles.
Also, thank GOD Katie Holmes didn't do 'Wonder Woman', it would have been a disaster.
I honestly don't understand why anyone even likes that fanfic book series in the first place.
Also, Katie Holmes couldn't even physically fill Wonder Woman's boots. As it is, I had to go to google to find out what Katie has been doing for the past decade.
If you wonder why... Google those two lead actors net worth after those films...
If Scarlett O'Hara isn't #1 this list is bullshit. Because that is the MOST sought after role in Hollywood history!
TS Xtina and vivien leigh was absolutely perfect in it :)
TS Xtina-THANK U!! Couldn’t agree more! One of the GREATEST movies of all time too! I love mostly hearing stories of how Leigh and Gable fought with each other constantly the best story is the dentures story I mean when I read about it it made me gag not even going to lie!
Never even heard of it. Triggered?
That's my favorite movie in Hollywood history
Who?
Tom hardy as bond....MAKE IT HAPPEN!!!!
Not to mention Reese Witherspoon was the frontrunner for Amy Dunne, but then she decided it didn't fit her so she took the role as producer, which enabled her to take the role of Wild. In the end both she and Rosamund Pike were nominated for Best Actress that year. And why are you calling Alden Ehrenreich unknown? He's been a lead in quite a few movies.
Jennifer Mathis Most people have never heard of him.
Ikr...I first knew Alden from Beautiful Creatures.
@@tashmirajoseph7389 Exactly.
wow amazing!!!
Vivian Leigh was a dream come true casting story !
Could never in a million years have ever been able to see, or accept Sandra Bullock as Wonder Woman. No offense to her, but she just wasn't fit for that type of role. lol
lurch321 neither is the the girl playing her rn, she’s like 120 pounds and has super strength
@@soughtinsight5533 She's a goddess, the suspension of disbelief can be justified.
As much as I love Jodie Foster and think she was wonderful in Silence of the Lambs, it would have been interesting to see Laura Dern in that role. I think she could have done it equally well.
Great actress. Would have been interesting to see her in that role.
Mimosa Amelia I agree Deen is a good actress and I could see her as Starling.
YES!! Laura Dern would have been a good Clarice
Tom Hiddleston would be awesome as James Bond / 007. :)
Tom would be great. Elba would be better. And this is coming from an Hiddlestoner.
Flash definitely !!!!
karma delivery watch his act Eames in Inception, he'd be perfect as Bond.
FUCK NO! hiddles would RUIN the bond series !!
Glad to know I'm not the only person with those views
"Tall, brunette, athletic, and exotic"
They should've had added "Good actress" too.
That is implied by default... the best actor with the greater looks take the role just because Is a universal law, something about 70% looks and 30% skills but don't get me wrong this is the new guide lines of this generation, you can see in the past ugly people get the roles because they were the best actors and even today remain that titles.. Welcome to 21 century Hollywood.
PS:including fame and popularity with the exception of the casting wants some fresh meat, of course there are exceptions to this rule.
shrekislove1289 or "attractive"
deuxieme Sounded more like a porno audition
Its always been like that, this 21st nonsense is I don't know what.
That movie was highly overrated if you ask me
Shailene Woodley can't act her way out of a paper bag. Who keeps casting her?
endorbr the casting couch
endorbr I liked her in Big Little Lies but that was mostly because of her character
She can act, just some of the charactrs she plays don't suit her
@endorbr.. go see Fault in your stars or The Spectacular Now .. you friggin tool.. you will know what acting is
daddydangerous20 she was terrible in 'The Spectacular Now'.
I'm so glad Gal got the role for wonderwoman, she's 100% perfect for the role. She IS Wonderwoman.
I'm so glad Katie Holmes wasn't cast as Wonder Woman. That would have been a colossal flop!
Daisy Ridley is bae
Hererra Wray 💯
Hererra Wray
I fucking hate the word bae.
Kenzie Skye Good for you
Thomas Mettert
Thanks, love.
Hererra Wray No, Daisy Ridley is rae
I think all the actors were right for the movie except 50 shades of gray. I dont like the girl they picked.
Mari B same.
Mari B the film doesn't deserve good actors
she looked like they described in the book
Mari B alexis bledel would be better
When they were casting I always pictured Alexander Skaarsgard and Elisabeth Olson.
holy hell, how has clive owen never been bond before?? he's so perfect.
10:58 🙌🙌🙌 the wicked stepmother look that could have been so good if there were to make a live action after the cartoons princesses were coming out 😍😍😍 oh my goodness! Perfect shot!
Dash Star !!!! One best voices in UA-cam !
Thank goodness for Radcliffe as HP
Scully as 007?! Geektastic, this would be amazing.
I've watched a good many of these films. My heart sings praises to most here, with special mentions to 'Gone Girl', 'James Bond' franchise, Hans f'ing Solo & Star Wars, Burton's Batman, 'Harry Potter' franchise, and 'Ferris Bueler's Day Off'. How I allow myself to discluse 'The Godfather' numero uno, 'Austin Powers' franchise and 'Friends' is beyond me. Proud to say I watch films with prized leading roles. *Pats self on back*
They made the right choice with Wonder Woman!!!
Yo my dude the next James bond gotta be Henry Cavill
He BETTER be the next bond!!
No Richard Madden or I'm not watching
Gillian Anderson should be the next Bond. she's got the right look
lol, she is 50 years old.
@@applebee6455 yeah cuz Daniel Craig is in his 20s
Camila Gisselle yeah, she’s a real mans man

7:07 I love the way the narrator said " perfect " because Amy Dunne was obsessed about projecting to be flawless. Rosamund Pike stepped into Amy Dunne's mindset, then used Amy's charming ability to mislead people into believing she's this " perfect victim " that eventually terrified us. When we found out the ugly truth as she drove away in her very forgettable Craig's List bought car Ford Festiva.
thank God they picked the right one for wonderwoman
my vote is for Idris Elba for the next james bond
Love this guy's voice
Rosamund Pike was perfect no doubt, but I can't deny that I would love to see Natalie Portman's take on this role too.
I totally imagined Natalie portman all the way while reading this book
She would have been great. ✌🏻
"Tall, brunette, atetic and exotic" - man, in the 80's it would have been Anjelica Huston!
Anyway, Scarlett has to be Vivien. She is just the perfect Scarlett, with that look and chemistry with Clark Gable!
Matt Bomer would have been a better Christian Grey.
Jocheen Peregrino he's gay so it wouldn't make sense
LagiNaLangAko23 No he can , but not for a novel based movie like 50 Shades . Remember this is not supposed to be a fictious character but rather a realistic character that fans of the novels can relate to . It would have been so meaningless and unrealistic to have a gay person play the role Christian Gray .
Mike myers Dr evil brilliant choice buddy but Jim Carrey would of been something to see
God, I'm so tired of that Wix commercial.
How much money do they pay ??? I've seen that millions of times
you know whats worse than the wix commercial. All the fucking tito lopez advertisement, they always like 8 minutes long
How about everybody stops bitching and get adblock for free?
Yup.
you can install adblock addons in firefox mobile
Testing before casting, would have been a better option in knowing the natural wiring of both actors
Casting is an art form.
Hi buddies ! ! Omg ugly This work truly looks like heawil~ nicepersuade =‑D
Am I the only one who got really upset imagining actors like Zac Efron and Shailene Woodley in the legendary Star Wars movies? I'm a huge Star Wars fan but I probably wouldn't even watch the movies if they had cast such cheesy actors/actresses. Thank god JJ Abrams knows what he's doing
I don't even like star wars but I know Shailene Woodley would be a bad choice...she sucks at acting...
Yeah. Both of them are so cheesy, especially Zac Efron. I finally understand why there was a mean tweet calling him having a douchebag face.
Poor Zac, but his cheesy and overconfident 'I know I'm handsome or hot' attitude and facial expressions doesn't help him with fitting into serious or complex roles.
But whatever, as long as he's happy I guess.
@@DJTreviCSRecordings I walked out on Rogue One.
I agree but they still did a bad job with the guy they choose to play Han Solo
Omg, I cannot imagine how awful it is to watch thousands of audition tapes and choose 1.
This was a great video. I'm now a little less ignorant on some of these topics.
50 shades would have been a WHOLE DIFFERENT movie had Charlie taken it! Dang!😍😍
Gone with the wind is my favorite movie I'm so happy it's acknowledged here
The director must have the keen insight to know who is the right actor to portray the character they want to be in their movie.
Anakin Skywalker was also a highly desired role, and chosen poorly twice.
On point!
Sad thing is, Hayden looked perfect for the role honestly. But his acting wasn't that good. He's average at best and Lucas isn't a good director, so teemed with average acting ability and poor directing, he did a pretty bad job.
Hahaha
I feel like Rosamund Pike is so underrated. She's just stellar in everything but she really proved she could do anything with Gone Girl. So talented.
Wowwww 🤗
this guy's voice really suits well for narration!
glad they picked the people they picked
aww I loved the movie hannah
there is something so legendary about Al Pacino playing in the godfather. That couldn't have been changed
if there is a new bond, tom hardy !
michael fassbender!
michael fassbender for sure
I should play bond
I agree, of all the folks that they showed here, Tom Hardy resonated the most with me.
I think he's involved in too much projects
Olga Kurylenko would also be perfect for Wonderwoman though...
Rosaline Pike as Amy Dun in Gone girl is just perfect. I wouldn't have it any other way
Nobody could have played a better Katniss Then Jennifer Lawrence. The Hunger Games wouldn't be the same.
Riley Porter I not really into her but I do agree. I think she was great as her just like everyone else was but I only into one person from the hunger games and that was Josh Hutcherson who Peeta. I though he was the one who stole the show and also Woody as well.
R Taylor ya you’re right woody played an amazing haymitch
Than, not then.
"i'd rather be punched in the face than kicked in the balls." is a very different sentence if you get those 2 words mixed up...
Jimmi well I’m like 4. My bad
I would love to see Gillian play a female bond. She'd be awesome. I know I'm in the minority, but it's not like it would really ruin anything - if it doesn't work - they'd just pick someone else next time. It works because it as to the whole; it's not about the person but the code name.
They could make her another agent in the same organization, but she can't be James Bond. Not that I care. I wouldn't watch either way. I hate James Bond type stuff.
Like gay bars for men, can we just a FEW things that women don't have to be in? lol
Yes, a woman, love it. And she s great.
Interesting
So glad GWTW was on the list! I can't conceive of anyone else in the world other than Vivien Leigh playing Scarlett O'Hara.
Haley Joel Osment looks more like Hagrid than Harry these days
😂
Lol dude....
They should make a Six Sense sequel...
"I see dead people..." - Haley Joey Osment in Six Sense (1999)
"And I ate them all!" - Haley Joel Osment in Six Sense 2 (2020)
50 shades? are you kidding? a lot of actors turned it DOWN
Omg Alexander as Mr Grey 🖤🖤😘
looper i dig that music tune in the background who performs it or compose it
I can't believe they said "neighbours star Zac Efron" NO HES TROY BOLTEN
idris alba as bond
Hershey11 he doesn't "need" to be white. you're just so used to seeing james bond as white. no one will get hurt if james bond is black.
+hershey 11 reversed whitewashing doesn't exist!!! #staywoke
+hershey 11 reversed whitewashing doesn't exist!!! #staywoke
vi he doesn't have to be white. I get that it wouldn't be similar to the books, but name one movie that is the same as the books. Also it doesn't matter if all the previous bonds were white. I'm wouldn't call myself a die hard Idris Elba fan, but I really do appreciate him as an actor. I love every single James Bond movie and have been watching them since I was 5 and I would have no problem with a black bond. The reason people make a big deal out of whitewashing is because they're already are so few opportunities for people of color in the Hollywood movie industry, and casting white people for those certain roles takes away opportunities for people of color.
Hershey11 when I think of james bond, I don't think "white" bc that usually means a mix of different european countries. the lore of james bond has been based around him being british and working for secret service. idris elba is british which makes him a fine candidate for the role. and your comment on whitewashing is just dumb. do you ever stop to think that there are so many roles in hollywood played by white people, maybe we can give more opportunities to people of color? please stop whining about this fancast. there are many people (especially people of color) out there who like the idea of a black james bond. doesn't mean you can fight them all just bc they don't share the same opinions as you.
Jim Carrey as Dr.Evil? Hell yeah, that would've been awesome!
Gillian Anderson as 007 would be AMAZING.
Looper: To be directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller
(laughs)
I want Idris Elba as James Bond so bad!
It works out so perfectly in my head!
I can also imagine Gillian Andersan though :D
no. fucking. way.
Ronald Regan was originally going to play Humphrey Bogart part in Casablanca.
Missed saying that Jeri Ryan (7of9) was also slated for Clarice Starling as well. The part of Rachel was actually cast with Courtney Cox and Monica was Jennifer Aniston however at an almost last minute decision the actresses were switched in their roles.
Bond... 1st Hiddleston or 2nd Elba
