    Thanks for the comprehensive vid on the Orca … I ready to upgrade to a hotter torch (in order to melt my silver scrap) and I think this may fit the bill.

    Thank you for the video ! It is very helpful ! I have a question : I am completely new to using any kind of torch and when I turn mine on (It is the same as in this video and connected to a propane container) there is a strong smell that comes out of it. Is it normal ? Is it safe to use ? Is it because the joints aren't tighten enough ?

      Have you checked for leaks using soapy water in a spray bottle like i showed in the video..If no leaks you should be ok you will get a heat smell especially when the torch is new, but you should not be able to smell gas. I can not tell you if it is safe or not without seeing it ,if in doubt do not use it until you have had it checked out by someone who knows about gas torches i.e your local plumber or plumbing supply store.

    Formidavel - amanhã farei uso pela primeira vez e à regulagem ajudou demais. Só uma dúvida: no final, fechou primeiro, o registro no maçarico e depois no cilindro. Deveria ser o contrário?

    Wondered this torch would be able to handle MAPP as some of the adds from this product suggest. Until now though havent seen any video from anyone trying

    Everything I have read from jewelry suppliers such as Otto Frei and Rio Grande indicates that the tank must always be kept upright rather than lying down and yet you have it lying down. What's the deal with that?

    • @JollyPeanut
      @JollyPeanut  Рік тому

      Makes no difference, many camping stoves use the same propane bottle and are designed to lay down, its gas it will flow no matter which way you lay or stand the bottle.

    I just received this torch in the mail and watched your setup. Thanks for the demo. I'm surprised that you have to disconnect the torch. I have a smith little torch that runs on disposable propane and an O2 generator, and have never had to disconnect that torch. Any idea why I would have to disconnect this one each time?

      I asked the guy at my local jewelry hardware store and he said it’s fine to leave orca torch connected to the propane as long as the regulator is off. I actually came here to watch this just to double check what he said and now I don’t know for sure.

      @@EM-cg4iy Thanks! I have tried this torch a number of times now and it puts out good heat, works fine for heating from under a piece, however it sputters when you hold it over a piece and heat from above it. I end up using my smith little most of the time.

    Hi, there! Thanks for sharing the video. Can we use it to melt gold and sterling silver?

    • @JollyPeanut
      @JollyPeanut  3 роки тому +1

      It can melt very small amounts. For melting silver & gold i prefer to use a TS8000 torch it burns hotter than the EZ torch & it is cheaper, check out this video it will give you some idea also in the video description are links for the torch & gas bottles.

      @@JollyPeanut Hi, Jolly! Just a follow up question. Since the U.K. doesn’t allow me to connect the torch with the disposable propane gas bottles, I’ve to connect the torch with a regulator to a propane tank. Does it mean I’ve to disconnect the tank and regulator every time after use as well?

    My brand new orca is "coughing". I don't know what is the term. Does anyone know how to correct it?. I already checked for leaks.

    • @EsiaEvai
      @EsiaEvai 4 роки тому +2

      Have you checked that your canister has enough gas? That, or the tip may be clogged - remove and wash with warm soapy water to dislodge any build up/debris :)

    Question, is it unsafe to leave the propane tank attached and everything turned off? I would prefer this if it isn’t going to blow me to smithereens.

    • @JollyPeanut
      @JollyPeanut  3 роки тому

      All manufacturers like to cover their ass for legal reasons. If you understand how the torch works then you probably understand the potential hazards when using gas & heat... I always think its up to the user ... like driving a car with or without a seat belt its up to you as long as you understand what could go wrong...I leave my torch connected if i am using it a lot but if i don't intend using it for a day or so i disconnect it it only takes a few seconds to reconnect after all, but that's just me & i am confident using this type of equipment & welding gear etc...If in doubt play safe disconnect as the manufacturer recommends.

    Help!
    I’m using an Orca torch like this one and a small crucible and up until now I always managed to melt 20 grams of sterling silver scraps easily.
    Last week I changed my workshop to another spot in my house and suddenly I’m having trouble melting silver, even much smaller quantities, silver starts to melt, turns orange but nothing else, I can try for a lot of time and nothing happens, it’s pretty frustrating.
    I tried with 3 different crucibles and nothing, any ideas what may cause this?
    I know that my torch is better for soldering but why this sudden change?

    Ps MAPP burns hotter.

    • @JollyPeanut
      @JollyPeanut  4 роки тому +2

      Map does burn hotter but also Map costs a load more to run, once you paid for the torch the main expense is the fuel Propane is cheap...Using it for Making jewelry Silver Soldering small Brazing jobs stuff like that.

      Old friend use to use a shop oxygen tank and a 20 lb propane for jewelery, cheap and clean but they also keep the torch burning while they work.
