    Just graduated EE and passed the FE, seen about 70% of my friends switch majors, all I need to say is just stick with it, it's a long hard road, many sleepless nights, many failures, many successes, again, just keep at it.

    I'm a college freshmen majoring in Mechanical Engineering and I never expected that I'd be motivated to do all my assignments and studies. Of course it's not all easy, but challenging yourself to do something you think you're not so good at is just something to be proud of. Anyone can achieve something as long as they put their work into it. (:
    I'm glad I came across your channel. Great advice and amazing video!

      Its been 3 years since this comment. How has it been? Are you still a Mechanical Engineer? I am will be attending college in a year to get a degree in the same major and was wondering if you could share ypur experience, wether you changed majors, got out of school, or if you are still in the same major.

      @@richardroman2625 Hello Richard. Wow, time really does fly, lol. I am doing perfectly fine despite this whole pandemic. I am still in college and I’m a senior now. Spring 2021 would’ve technically been my last semester before graduation, but I’m deciding to stay another year to allow some more time for internships/co-ops. I’m glad to hear that you plan to study Mechanical Engineering! It’s amazing so far and the classes I’ve taken along with the professors I’ve had has really taught me a lot about what I need to know for this field. I will tell you that I have failed 4 classes. I use to cry about them and started thinking that ME might’ve not been the major for me. But I stopped those thoughts from paving my future because I remembered how much I wanted to help others as a Mechanical Engineer. I can’t promise that it’s easy, but I can promise that it’s truly worth the hours and the effort to study the materials. I’m glad you decided to pursue your degree in ME. It’s really fun and I know that you can definitely succeed as long as you try! And good luck in college next year and all your classes! 🍀

      @@viennabanez8123 Wow thank you so much for sharing your experience. I think failing four classes would make any other student rethink and changr their major but I think you realized 4 classes is nothing compared to a lifetime career of being an Engineer. I applaud you for not quiting.
      One last question and I'll disappear like a block of salt in water lol. Well actually a couple questions.
      What do you attribute your success to? What systems have you implemented into your life as a student that has set you up for success ie. study habbits or routine, planner or a scheduler? Have you procrastinated on task and if so, how did you overcome that evil spirit lol? And if you would do it all over again, what would you change?
      I am sorry for all the questions 🙇🙇🙇🙇🙇

    Don't worry too much about the grades. Only the first job out of engineering school where they look at grades. Do something fun besides study. Learn how to schedule your time. Be aware of weeder courses where the professor flunks 30% of the class. Get a study group or buddy. Surviving Engineering is winning. It is OK to repeat a course. It is OK to take 5 years to graduate. Do your best. Coops are great ways to get experience. Buying your own textbooks is good for the long-run. Buy textbooks off Amazon. Used books are fine. Don't forget that Friday nights are for having fun. Graduates often make $ 70 K upon graduation and that ain't too bad. The labs give 1 hour credit but may take 20 hours to do well in. Sometimes you may have two labs a semester. Don't forget to have fun.

    As a senior in engineering, I wish I tried more clubs and organizations, especially engineering ones. You gain so much experience, learn how to work with other people, learn about the real application of subjects you may currently, or may not even learned yet. Especially since quite often, the most hands on experience you'll get is during labs or internships if you do any. You also meet older students, who can give you help, tell you about profs, recommend classes to you, and just be great mentors/friends in general. I joined a club halfway through my junior year, and I ended up loving it, and it gave me an edge on my resume as well. If you don't like it, that'll help you figure out what you do enjoy doing. For me, it made me love my major even more (EE).

    Great channel for me. I am an Industrial Engineer and i know very well how much this feild of engineering is a little bit newer from other engineering departments and a lot of young people at my country feel it is very unclear and the would by happy if someone just explains to them what it is. For several years i am tryong to help all those people by telling them what it means to be an industrial engineer, which jobs can you perform when you graduate, what are the kinds of topics that ie learns during his/her degree. For cunclution this is very helpful for me and i am very grateful for that.

    I'm a Scottish student in my last year of high school currently going through the process of sending off University applications and your videos really inspired me to redo Higher Physics this year in favour of Computing so I may still get into the Electro-Mechanical Engineering course I dreamed of, you really ought to have more subs and views, even though I suspect US College/Uni life is different from UK College/Uni life your videos are still extremely helpful to me, so thank you for that man! :)

You're going to have soooooooo much opportunity if you continue to pursue Elector-Mechanical. For real, you'll be introduced to new groups, companies, and projects in uni that are at the front of the tech world. I'm super interested in this area, and wish you the best of luck! Be sure to keep in touch and lemme know how everything is going.

    Hi, first if I will like to thank you for making such great videos. They help answer a lot of questions that I don’t know how to word well enough to ask someone, or that there is no one to ask. I have a suggestion for a video. Could you do one where you can explain the different types of technical skills and perspectives that different engineering degrees give. Also where do these different degrees led you in the industry. What departments of engineering do the different types of engineering degrees lead you into. What types of problems, designs, and thinking perspectives do the different types of engineers deal with on their jobs. Does one field obtain more skill in certain areas than others. Do the different degrees in engineering end up in the same departments as other engineers? Thank you

    • @KyleGillis
      @KyleGillis  6 років тому

      Yup, i can do that. Give me some time though. I won’t do them all in one video. I’ll probably start with a few simple ones. But I’ll do them for the engineering majors at my school!

    I’m a homeschooled student who mostly teaches herself and I’m finishing up my 11th year. For some reason, your videos always calm me down when I get overwhelmed with the thought of college or even when I have way to much math work to do. I feel like lots of people on UA-cam can come off a little smug almost and talk as if they are the insider and the high schoolers are the outsiders and that can be a little intimidating so when I found your channel it was like a weight was lifted off my shoulders. You are so motivating and real! I’m planning on going to Penn State (if accepted) for aerospace engineering and I would have not have stuck with that choice if it wasn’t for your honest vids. Thanks dude💙

Something tells me that you're going to make an incredible engineer one day. Please please please feel free to reach out any time. You'll see in my next few videos that I'm working on a NASA payload with a group of friends that'll be launched to orbit this summer! But now The Universities applications are closing now less In a weeks time and for me to apply for engineering they want my June examination results .And like most of us we dont have it because we will only be writing our June examination in July .
    I really dont know what to do should I just apply with my March (1st term ) results will they accept me or consider me or but me on a waiting list until I can give them those results

    • @KyleGillis
      @KyleGillis  6 років тому +5

      +CreamPie So among all the engineering majors, industrial is by far the best for balancing social life. It’s still much much more difficult than the non science majors, but you’re learning a very useful set of skills you can use later (that pay way better). Workload is what it is.. it’s intense if you’re not use to putting in the study hours lol.

    • @KyleGillis
      @KyleGillis  6 років тому +3

      +CreamPie not sure if you’ve seen my other shit, but in a nutshell I think it’s worth it if you’re willing to just put in some extra work over the next few years. You’ll surprise yourself with how much you begin to realize through this major. Hope that helps 💯💯

      Honestly I don't know much about either.. I know that's a shit answer but I don't want to misguide you on it.
      But just some general information to keep in mind when picking a major.. Don't look at it as the means to an end. Like once you get whatever engineering degree you want, it doesn't put you into a box where you can only obtain certain jobs now based on that. The degree you decide on is simply the foundation skills you'll be learning, and you can choose to add more skills to your toolbox as you go WHENEVER you want! So don't feel like you're closing off paths just because you're picking one of these over the other. Haha sorry I couldn't exactly answer.

      Completely comes down to priorities (lol easier said than done)! This is essentially college in a nutshell. As long as you take the classes seriously and give yourself time to study every day, then it's not difficult to keep up with. //////// On the other hand.. when it becomes harder than it should be and you start to fall behind is when you get severely behind in one class and then have to take an entire day or 2 to study for an exam, and then you now became behind on everything because you had to push everything else to the side for this one exam haha. So just do your best to keep up and it shouldn't be a problem! We all get behind tho
