Thank you Dweezil for coming on! Everyone check out the Running with the Dweezil podcast and his Reward Music program!
Dweezil is so underrated as a guitarist!
Pretty granular. I love it!! Apparently it is not all in the hands.
2:09:11 Best verbal description of a 1210 I've ever heard. "gooey" and "wide" - Yes!!
I agree. Push Comes to Shove IS the finest VH solo. As a looong time VH fan, I’ve always felt that way. Interesting Dweezil called that out.
I saw Dweezil on a Jimi Hendrix tribute tour in a small opera house. Had Billy Cox, Buddy Guy, Johnny Lang, Kenny Wayne Shephard. A great all-star tribute band.
I actually got to sing BGV in a Hendrix Experience with Billy Cox! What an honor! I actually had a Hendrix LP and had him sign it. So blessed to have been in that situation. :)
DZ is a class act; if you've never seen him and his band live, don't pass up a chance to do so, it will change your life!
Really enjoyed this one. Dweezil is an extremely bright talented guy but never comes across as a know it all (which is rare). Sounds like a humble person which I have a ton of respect for
Could listen to Dweezil Zappa all day. Running With The Dweezil, is HIGHLY recommended. Thanks Tone Talk! 🎙
thanks Guys,,brilliant interview. Thanks Dweezil , great informations
Dweezil is unbelievable. Could spend my life hanging with him! Great show.
Dweezil is a really interesting guy. Outstanding player, but like his dad, he's thinking a lot about the music biz. Great episode!
When Dweezil nerds out about VanHalen, it makes me feel more normal while i nerd/freak out on Frank!
Musicians be musicians. Love Dweezil's works, and Z on Z was the coolest tribute a Band/Son could've played! Wild, i wish i couldve been there!...(uh yeah...but i still got my guitar...)😅
I used to play with Dave Logeman. Nice to hear him get a mention.
Really hate I missed this live. I would have paid for a comment. I played in an Allman Brothers tribute band in Birmingham, AL. One of our Hammond players was Don Barbee (who is now deceased). He was in Frank Zappa’s movie “Uncle Meat”. He was on tour in L.A. in 1968 and was staying at the same hotel as Frank. Zappa overheard him talking at the hotel pool and got a kick out of his Alabama accent. Frank ending up putting him in the movie just to hear him talk.
Finally got to view this episode (saved it for a free moment with a cup of coffee and it was worth it), Dweezil is so nice to listen to!
Nice one guys! Cheers from Australia
Cool podcast
WOW! I've been saying the Push Comes To Shove is Ed's best solo of all. It reminds of Holdsworth somewhat!
😭 Can’t believe I missed this live!!! 😭
Super likeable and interesting guy!
Ok I live in Pittsburgh and I'm definitely going to that museum that sounds like a gear wet dream 😹 great show love what you guys do
What a great episode. Dweezil has so much interesting stuff to say.
Dweezil is highly intelligent! Great show. You guys should get David Barber on the show.
Awesome interview guys! So much great information!! BTW I did notice a a constant static coming from Dweezil’s feed but not too bad with the volume lowered. 🤘🤘🤘
The question came up in the chat last evening regarding the best Zappa records to get into the wonderful world of FZ. Dweezil has recommended, and I agree with him that 'Apostrophe/Overnite Sensation' is the best place to start. While they while not FZ's favourite stuff it does contain everything that compromises Frank's work and the more commercial slant makes them more easily accessible.
Great show cheers 👍👍
thanks for this video, really enjoyed it! great insights
Dave you are absolutely right my wife fell in love with the 100 deluxe as I did so I told her I’m gonna get it ....she goes that’s $4,000.00 so now she’s pissed at me but loves you and Steve Stevens .😂
Another hit show! All the best from Canada!
Thanks for the interview guys! Love the drumbrella idea! Have a good weekend :)
Amazing guys, well done :)
Fantastic episode. Thanks for the awesome content.
Glad you enjoyed it!
He nailed it!
Push Comes to Shove is definitely his best.
I think Satriani may agree.
Great show guys and Marc, don't forget to mention that museum Dweezil was talking about in Philadelphia ... I looked it up and wish I could post a link! Will definitely check it out next time I'm in that area. I already joined as a registered member! It's on the web at.. emeapp.org/
Holy sh!t. King Kong was the opener for one of the Stonybrook shows in like 1984. For which I was present.
Thanks again guys for a fabulous show!
I like dweezil...
14:55 I agree with Dweezil 100% The solo on When Push Comes to Shove is one of Edwards best ever. I have tried to tell people about this solo for years and they don’t listen to it because they don’t like the song very much. The song grew on me, it has great stuff in it……Dave talking at the beginning, Ed’s volume swells and the solo is just blazing angry. Eddie must have been in a bad mood that day.
Hey guys, stoked for show #101!!!
Dweezil, you had a really cool rhythm tone on “Having A Bad Day”, what guitar/amp set up did you use?
Mark, did you ever nail down what Zappa tour you saw at Sunrise? Great interview as always!
Dave is the coolest dude ever I swear.
Have you guys bumped into Clifton Wright on youtube? Apparently he's been doing old rack unit videos for a good while already, but only recently started popping up in the feed.
The guy owns a wall of 80's classic units but isn't afraid to try anything found from the garage sales, and he's got some _serious_ chops. New contender in the Michael Nielsen, Leon Todd, Robert Baker world! It seems like he's found that niche that was missing on youtube regarding his reviews/demos, a couple of really nice "sleeper units" too.
We hope to have Clifton on one day.
I loved Dweezil's idea of an amp that allows you the capability of mixing in a clean sound to your overdrive! Dave...what do you think?
You can always get an active ABY to preserve high end, and send your signal to your main and a clean amp simultaneously. Your master vols are your mix knobs making a wet/dry or rather a dry/clean. Almost any amp will sound good as a wet or clean signal amp. Of course, your request is for that to happen with only one amp, so it is not as convenient, but it does sound amazing and you probably have all necessary equipment to make it happen.
AC/DC does have a ballad called Love Song and also Ride on could be considered a ballad
True, but Love Song was only released in Australia, at least as part of an album. Generally, Dweezil is right. Most rock or hard rock bands have ballads for the chicks, but AC/DC don't.
It was funny how Dweezil had to tell EVH how certain solo that did in the past went. I heard there were similar situations with Wolfie correcting EVH on how certain songs went during rehearsals, for the first tour Wolfie was on.
Kind of like Tommy telling Ace how his solos went.
"...never this wall of hiss..."
You mean like we're hearing now?
;-}
Peace.
Lol I can play most VH tunes. Ready to turn on the amp?? Oh. ILL WAIT LOL
Never hear a ballad from AC/DC? Let me find out he never heard Ride On! Total Classic and ballad as it gets.
As much as I appreciate the Zappa Plays Zappa stuff (and go to see Dweezil, whenever he comes to my country), I am also a massive fan of his original music. Shampoohorn and Music for Pets were the albums that put Dweezil on my musical radar and are still on pretty heavy rotation at my house. With that said, there are diamonds on every single Dweezil album and for those of you unfamiliar with Dweezil’s original music, you really owe it to yourself to check it out. Moreover, like the fool that I am, I am still hoping for What the Hell was I Thinking and dreaming of some sort of Z reunion, that (for sadly obvious reasons) will never happen.
Loved the episode but I'm halfway through and I think you guys missed my early superchat :(
So sorry if we did! What was your question?
@@tone-talk That's alright. I really wanted to know how Dweezil nailed the clean Watermelon in Easter Hay tone and was going to ask him what his favourite live tones were
@@SWizz871 I can write him and see if he can answer. Would you like me to do that?
@@tone-talk If that's not too much trouble, I be very thankful. Great episode by the way!
@@SWizz871 no problem . I just emailed him and hope to hear back. I’ll post it here. Sorry again I missed it! Glad you enjoyed the show!
Such an insightful conversation. I respect Dweezil Zappa immensely. Not only is he a phenomenal guitarist, but also a great songrwriter, and the fact that he has kept Frank's legacy alive at such high quality, in live settings, is invaluable. I have seen ZPZ 3 times, and can't wait until they come to Vienna-Austria again. Playing Frank'z music requires serious dedication. I am currently learning "St. Alfonzo's Pancake Breakfast", which I have always loved. Having Dweezil complementing one of my own compositions has been one of the highlights of my life. It's this one, btw.: ua-cam.com/video/GV4QM5Uz1Ho/v-deo.html
My gear problem is I like everything I can't afford. I hunt used....
Where is the link you said you would put up about what Dweezil was talking about for artists merch ?
It’s there. Reward music
Where is this museum at in Philly?
It was Joe’s Garage...
Definitely hear Alan Holdsworth influence in the Push Comes To Shove solo.
Absolutely....so weird and angular but still has that smooth EVH fluidity in his technique
The guy that was allowed to mutilate a perfect PRS Custom. Never offer a famous guitar player an endorsement if he only wants to except when he can change your guitar design (see also John Mayer).
