      I'm pretty much doing the kit hand wash you explained after every ride because I only have one of everything. The "not wringing out" tip was very helpful!

      Honestly. The kit does not shrink at all in the tumble dryer as it is from syntetic fabric and only whool and cotton does shrink. I ALWAYS, ALWAYS wash and dry my kit in the tumble dryer. Does not hurt at all ;)

      1.) turn kit inside kit like shown in video
      2.) put each piece of cycling kit into a garment bag. Jersey on its own. Shirts in their own, socks/gloves with each other, etc...
      3.) I use a Sensitive Skin detergent, COLD water, delicate setting, extra rinse
      4.) when drying, I hang them up in the closet. YOU CAN use them in the dryer, if you use air fluff mode or any mode where it uses ambient air and does not provide heat. I use a pant hangar for the jersey and clip the hangar into the collar/zipper corners as to not get shoulder nipples. Bibs I hang up on a hangar with those 1” cutouts in top (forgot the technical name...)
      Doing this for years and all is well! In the words of GCN’s Dan Loyd: “Happy Days!”

    (1) If your washer has a "hand wash" setting, use it -- it should be the most gentle setting. (2) If your kit was soiled a lot or you sweat heavily and you needed to add a little extra detergent to the wash, then follow the wash cycle with an extra rinse and spin cycle. (3) If the chamois in your shorts is stained, put some liquid detergent directly on it and work it into the chamois by hand before you wash it.

      Thanks for those top tips D.Eldon as usual!

    Zip up jerseys, bib shorts in a mesh bag, Dr Bronners organic unscented soap, cold water using a 2nd rinse with 1/4 cup vinegar after 1st rinse. Clean and very soft with no soap smell.

    My bikes are stored upside-down by their rims on hooks in the garage. After a gentle cycling wash, I hang-dry my kit pieces by placing their hangers on the top-tube. I place a fan directly upward toward my kit, and it all gets a nice gentle fan-dry. It all smells nice, and looks & feels softer this way.

    A laundry net is useful for gloves and jackets with Velcro & zippers. I also put my cycling shorts with their long straps into a net to lessen wear and stretching.

    Zip up jerseys and turn them inside out and put them into the washing machine in those clothes baggies. Set the washing machine on delicate. I hang my kit to dry it out once it comes out of the machine.

    Laundry bags can help to avoid damage from the machine as well.

    I like your tip, but can I try adding another tip on top of your set of tips: before your cycling clothes go in the washer, try soaking them in a solution of water and a bottle of hydrogen peroxide overnight in a 5 gallon bucket. You can save this solution for at least 3-5 uses. The hydrogen peroxide will kill microorganisms and other things that creates bad odors. You can see after leaving them soaked for a few minutes, some foam creation. I wear a face mask for work and after a few wash cycles, I can get rid of certain moldy, sweaty scent from the fabric until I tried this method. I then started to use this practice for some of my undergarments and cycling gear too. Just remember to store hydrogen peroxide away from light exposure and other chemicals/moisture. Cheers!

    Hello! I have a doubt. One question. I found on the internet that cycling pants with a pad inside should be worn without any underwear. You surely want to wash your shorts property after using them again, thus increasing the temperature of the water, at least 60 C. But according to the care guidelines you shouldn't set the temperature over 30C. I doubt this washing will be very effective...

    • @sleepdeprived9181
      @sleepdeprived9181 Рік тому

      Yes, it leaves some stink on the chamois. So, not really solution other than to spot wash first in 30C water.

    Do folks machine wash their gear every single day?? I hand wash and hang my kit every day and machine wash weekly.

    • @D.Eldon_
      @D.Eldon_ 6 років тому +3

      Yes, I do. However, my washer is very efficient and has a "hand wash" cycle that is extra gentle. I always use the "hand wash" setting. To do a proper job of real hand-washing requires time that I seldom have. And it always takes my kit much longer to dry whenever I'm forced to do a real hand-washing (like when I'm traveling).

    • @gtn
      @gtn  6 років тому

      We machine wash our kit Barnaclebeard, but it's important to read the manufacturers instructions 👍

    I accidentally dry my bib short under direct sunlight one time. Does anyone know if it damaged my bib short because the temperature outside was about 30 degree Celsius

    • @sleepdeprived9181

      Did it since day one, they turned out fine. Will probably discolor from the sun if left too long and if you did it too much, as would any clothes.

    Sprey on some deodorant and use it for min 1week. Best tip if you are lazy enough to even sit with your kit on at home when you come from a ride.
