    I've only been wearing bib tights/shorts for a couple of years now and the best tights I've worn are My Kilometre gravel tights from Amazon (£33). They fit me great and have never bothered me in any way on commutes or on 3-4 hours rides.
    Second place are a pair of WindSpi bib shorts (£33) and last place are the cheapest Siroko bib tights I could find (with a Trace Velo discount: £52). The padding on the Siroko tights is just noticeably less comfortable from the start of a ride to the finish compared to the My Kilometre tights.

      Bib shorts can be ultra personal in terms of fit but sounds like you’ve got yourself a decent couple of budget options. 👌🏻

    Great one Peter, bibs are a nightmare for me as I’m 6ft 5in so most are digging in at the shoulders. For years I just wore shorts and got a cold back! I’ve found though Planet X are a great fit all round for me in the length although it’s the xxxl size!
    Planet do a great range of both bib shorts and tights for the winter and I’ve found the quality fine. I’ve a pair of bib tights still going strong after 6 years, just lost the ‘p’ from planet!
    It pays to shop around and when you find cycle clothing that works for you stick with it. Our club cycling kit is made to measure but we get a good deal from the company that produces it.
    Keep up the good work Peter, it’s now a Sunday ritual watching you content. 👍

      Paddy, I really can’t express how much I appreciate you, as you’ve basically been here since day 1 and continue to support this channel. You’re a legend, mate. 👌🏻
      Otherwise though, yeh, bibs can be difficult to find a perfect pair. I’ve never bought kit from Planet X but love their bike components as they regularly have flash sales and sell at ridiculous prices!
      So glad you enjoy sitting down to watch the videos each weekend though. At least one person definitely appreciates them. 😉😂

    I'm glad you have done this, has I've been struggling to find a pair of decent bs. I've just bought a pair from fatladsatback to wear for commuting. Plus I got pair from DHB last month only rode once in them. Keep up reviewing kit.

    12:44 you're not having a lot of luck with these logos Pete!
    What temp are you washing your stuff on? Any fabric softener?
    Any tumble drying?

    • @petertreadway
      @petertreadway  11 місяців тому

      I never tumble dry my cycling gear but I do probably wash them on a 40º instead of a 30º though. I also tend to use Dettol laundry cleanser instead of fabric conditioner as well, unless Mrs. T puts a washing load on before I can get to it! 🙄
      The Souke shorts hadn't even been washed though, I literally got back from the first ride, took my jersey off and saw something 'hi viz' looking on the floor and it turned out to be the 'O'.
      Other than that though, I really rate the shorts. Took them out this weekend for mine and Jimmy's first proper gravel ride on the new bike I built him (video of that scheduled for this Sunday 😉) and they were super comfortable.

    100% agree after a certain price point it's just branding hype your payin for . Ive had tenn sport £15 bibs that are durable and comfortable other brands like Planet X pro 365 are worth the money at £25 just recently bought some Link ride bibs from start fitness only £15 and seem good value also have the souke bibs

    • @petertreadway
      @petertreadway  10 місяців тому +1

      Yep, it’s all about the comfort for me. I do like my Morvelo bibs but at £125, I can’t see me buying another pair for quite some time. The Souke shorts will now be my go to choice when I need a new pair.
      I got a lot of time for Planet X stuff though and have a few of their bits already, including a Pair of Carnac Grit gravel shoes. They’re awesome for the price.
      Thanks for watching and commenting though, John. Really appreciate it. 💪🏻🌟

  • @rangersmith4652
    @rangersmith4652 11 місяців тому +2

    I've found that Amazon brands Santic and Przewalski are quite acceptable in terms of comfort and durability, and they are certainly not expensive, available for $40 US. I hand wash all my cycling kit immediately after each use, and I dry the pieces by rolling them into a towel and standing on it to squeeze out as much water as possible then hanging them to dry. I think that process alone can make any pair of bibs or any jersey last a lot longer. Machine washing kills them, and machine drying is even worse.

    • @petertreadway
      @petertreadway  11 місяців тому

      Agree on the machine drying and I never throw my cycling gear in the drier, however I am guilty of machine washing. I just don’t have the time or patience to hand wash! 😂
      Just looked up Santic on AliExpress too and they sell for about £23 ($30) Direct from China, so a little cheaper than Amazon but again, you’d need to wait a couple of weeks for them to arrive.
      Appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment. 🌟👌🏻

      @alexandresilva8233 7 місяців тому +1

      @petertreadway I used to distribute Santic some years ago. I still have plenty of their kits and they mid to high range is the same quality and performance as many other brands that cost 3x more. Van Rysel's race line is also top quality for the price

    I get the padding for the seat bone but what about the bean bag? Air some reason even with expensive shorts I get terrible chafing on the sides of my sack no matter how much butter I use. It’s like riding with shark teeth in my shorts. Ugh😢

    • @petertreadway
      @petertreadway  20 днів тому +1

      That sounds…. Painful, Keith! Honestly though, you might benefit from a bike fit, as your ‘bean bag’ pain might be a result of an imperfect setup affecting your position on the saddle.

    Doing bike packing ,I can't see the point of them ,At the end of the day all the material will compress & rub .I found using seem less boxers & a good saddle position / fit has done far more in terms of comfort ...& a suspension seat post .

      I’ve recently fitted a suspension seat post to my travel bike and it has made a massive difference to the comfort over the bumpy stuff!

      Absolutely Paul. I exclusively wore x tiger bib shirts for my first couple of years cycling and had very few issues with them. You’ll feel a slight difference if you ever decided to pick up one of the bigger brands offerings but, honestly, I think you’ll be very happy with them and, as you say, £3.15… it’s a no brainer.

      @pgarrish Місяць тому

      @@petertreadway Well they arrived, and fairly quickly. And they're not bad. Not as comfy as my Aldi long bib leggings - its the crotch pad, it gets uncomfy 'up front' and leads to a bit of shuffling on the saddle, but otherwise they are very good, and the leg pocket is spot on for a phone. and £4!!!!

    what's your opinion on Decathlon road bike clothes? I know they have the Triban clothes (which I guess corresponds to their medium range road bikes) and their Van Rysel clothes (which correspond to their high end carbon road bikes)

    • @petertreadway
      @petertreadway  9 місяців тому +1

      Honestly, I’ve never had any clothes from Decathlon, although my wife dies have a Van Rysel helmet which seems really good quality, and a couple of usual riding buddies have the lightweight Van Rysel rain jackets and they really rate them.
      I’m actually a big fan of Decathlon and feel they get (unfairly) tarred with the cheap crap brush, as a lot of their stuff is really good quality. My first road bike was a Triban 500SE and I still used it faultlessly until recently. It’s now permanently hitched up to my turbo trainer. 👌🏻

    • @alexandresilva8233
      @alexandresilva8233 7 місяців тому +1

      Their race range is top quality. You won’t regret the (small) investment. Bibs have great fabric and finish. Comfy and great straps. Jerseys feel like they cost double and even winter tops outperform other double the price. The normal range (rock rider, triban) is not so good but still great value for money.

    • @petertreadway
      @petertreadway  7 місяців тому

      Yeh, I feel like the Triban brand is a great budget entry point when you’re just starting out and Vsn Rysel is the logical next step when you’re ready to up the stakes in terms of distance and intensity of riding.
      I’ve got a lot of time for Decathlon. 👌🏻
