BEST DIY Solder Helping Hands (Third Hand)
Вставка
- Опубліковано 18 сер 2015
- This is by far the best helping hand I've ever used for soldering!
Pretty cheap to make as a DIY project and you'll use it forever!
THE WIRE I USED is: 5mm armature wire
I used that little helping hand thing for quite a lot now and it was a pain every time.
It's probably good enough when you have to hold a little circuit board or something like that, but for what I use it is just NOT GOOD ANOUGH!
So my friend Chad Kapper gave me the idea to use that thick alluminum wire (I think it's called Alluminum Armature wire) and I really have to thank him because it's really great. Really stiff and it works just great!!!
Can't be any more happy with it, considering that I spent almost nothing to make it...
Can't wait to solder stuff with it but then I thought I can use thore alluminum arms for other things, so I made some more...
I really can't tell you how useful they are...
I hope you enjoy!

Oh my- your diy drawer and tools is awesome!
Really liking the 3D printed bit sorter you show in this.
Giaco - you have great talent. I am not sure I will make many of the things you show, but I love watching how you tell the story. Awesome music and video effects. Just so much fun.
Thanks man! :)
Excellent work!
These videos are so enjoyable!
what ever you do Giaco it feels like.. art, eccellente!
+Hz Records thanks brother really appreciated
Very cool table!
Amazing work bro! U just won a new fan from Brazil!
Sucesso!
music and edited are always on point with your videos man, keep em coming !!!!!
Thanks man! :)
Love it, I'll get onto it cause hate the floppy crocodile clips on my store bought helping hands. Even wrapping the teeth with heatshrink, jaws bite and mark softer insulation.
Music is fresh as ever. Really matches the theme of your channel well, clean, refined, and a pleasure to the senses
MinecraftBysup69 Thank you man! Really appreciated! :)
Very cool. Thanks Giaco.
Future beats + DIY + great editing. You got my sub...
Thanks man! :)
Excellent - love that you can interchange arms and will be easy to store. I shall use a ceramic tile to protect wood, add a spring type soldering iron holder and then have fun making a whole range of arms.......
They all should have began this way! Way to go Bro!
Lol! Thanks...
Great work again and again!
David Waelder Thank you brother!
classy stuff.. great videos!

Giaco Whatever Just ordered the bits to make mine as I am frustrated by the ones that are available too
You won't regret it! :)
This is absolutely amazing
Thanks brother!
+Giaco Whatever What gauge thickness is your wire
The aluminum one? 5mm I think...
I came to watch because I needed a helping hand, but subscribed because of that intro. (The drop at :15) Your videos are amazing! Keep it up!
Thank you brother, I glad you stayed! :)

I understood but I can't reply in french! But thank you! :)))
Sorry, I even forget to answer in the right language !! hyptnotic i said ... :) where are you from ? i see u use dexter tools. is that brand cross the ocean or are you from the old contient ??
"It is astonishing how your "small" projects can be hypnotic to watch. I am really amazed by the quality of your accomplishments and how you present it all. Careful I'll become addicted ! sub +1 !"
Thank you brother! Yes I'm from Italy but crossing the pond pretty often... :)
Good job. You made my headphones cry.
Nice work!Subscribed!
Glad you did! :)
i made almost the same thing except i used heavy copper grounding wire.
Gooood sir
Amazing! Will try to make this myself :D
It's so good! I wanna see a pic when you do... Share it to me on instagram... :)
did you ever make one ?
Idk why I’m here, but even the videos from 7 years ago are good
I can see that being really helpful. you could even add on of those carbon filter fans to remove the solder smoke. I've heard they make long soldering sessions unbelievably better
JZL003 Yes! That's a great idea... I'm definitely going to make one very soon... I just don't wanna use one of those computer fans... Need to find something more powerful... Thanks for watching!
Maybe dryer vent with a, uh, computer fan? Idk
this is it. thank you
very nice and simple, always the best. Subded :)
eastcoast78 Thanks man! Yes I agree... :)
Thank you for the voice over, stephen hawkings.
Be nice if you inluded a parts list for where you bought the little clamps and solid wire.
lmassoff @Stephen hawking voice!
Great video.
+Nathan Knight I was able to get 10' of 1/4 armature wire and a box of misc clamps for $19 on amazon. Totally building a few of these.
Great!!! Show me the result then please... :)
Also linked your vid in the flitefest fans Facebook page. Sounded like a couple guys were going to do it also.
Amazing, thank you so much man!
that's cool.
lol. Great Video. Thank you for sharing. Subbed.
Thank you for being here! :)
I'd like to know where you got the organizer for the toolbox. But great vid, I will definitely make this. Thanks
He 3d printed it. Check on thingiverse for something similar.
If I position two wires next to each other to solder them together will they stay together once I release the arms or is there some spring back in the arms that will create a gap between the wires when I release the arms?
Where'd you get your tool box organizers? Tool box looks great.
oh man. i love you.
Ciao Giacomo
Your best video yet!!! Sharp, crisp and funny!!! Thought the voice was great as (to my mind) you've got to be some sort of an un-human robot sod with 5 hands to get the stupid little 3 armed gizmo to a) not topple b) be in the correct orientation c) still not topple d) provide squinting opportunities AND e) too late as its toppled over....!!!
And seriously I'm lusting after that toolbox organisation!!!!
Cool work, again!!! And thanks for your efforts to share your stuff.
Ahahahah! Thank you for your un-human comment! I thought that in the next video I'll make my logo do the talking... I have no idea of how I would animate it but I'll try... What you think? :)
+Giaco Whatever
Mmm...How about the classic animation of the mouth just doing -, -, o,o,O,O,0,0,O,O,o,o,>....... just showing an opened then closed mouth, badly synced to the robotic voice, of course!!! Hell, this aint no Disney, this is ART!!!! Have fun and dont sweat it too much. Im sure it will be fine however you tell a story. Cheers.
How is it holding up after almost a year? Have you considered making and selling them? I would consider buying one.
For the pliable arms I used rubber covered 12 inch GearTies by Nite Ize available from HomeDepot or online.Just snip the ends off, stick one end in a hole in the wood base and strip the rubber off the other end of the wire to attach to clips, etc. Easy Peasy!
If you're using those for tying looped cables/rope/etc, Walmart sells something very similar they call "Gear Snake" in the camping section. Only costs $4 or $5 for a 16-foot roll. You don't get the nice little rubber bulbs on the ends, and it only comes in orange, but the price makes those features easy to sacrifice ;-)
And you always get just the length you need: I unroll some, twist it, then cut it. If I guessed wrong about the length, just untwist and adjust it before cutting.
Michael O’Bree I'm getting ready to build my own and that was exactly what I was thinking to use!
Ran Talbott I bought the gear snake a long time ago and it seems nice at first but the wire inside ends up poking out the ends of every piece you cut and the rubber is very cheap the more you move it around the more it rips. Basically just good for wrapping things up etc
this is similar to what I'm planing on doing lol
now that is my style, making not 'buying', but you will not make money with 'afiliated links' like all other youtubers !!
I like it
Thanks Chris! Would you like to see more builds like this?
Thanks i made it
its very nice but u have to mention all the materials name
He used 5mm Armature wire, but you could use very heavy copper wire.
This is amazing; I built my own and have been using it for a few months. But what do you do when the solder arms break off? I could drill a couple of new holes but that's not a sustainable solution. I'm tempted to try to, well, solder them back on, but I don't foresee that going very well, lol
Cut it all the way & Drill in same place
yo thats so kool be blessed
Thanks bruh!!! :)
Recently I was thinking to buy the helping hand you showed at the beginning, but I'm glad I didn't! Certainly going to make this myself. Great job! Btw, how is the project with the fire extinguisher coming together?
Jonas Cools I'm glad I saved your money over those really annoying things... :) The first Fire Extinguisher was a crucible used in the "mask" video... I got other 3 to go... Next will probably be a flame thrower for special effects... :-P
Looking forward to that :D
Is that Yoshi in the song? lmao
Gagawa ako niyan
thank you mr robot
Fabulous! What are those alligator clips called? Where can I get them?
They're just called alligator clips, I know you can find them at Walmart or Home Depot, because I just picked some up.
Can you do a home made solder fume exatractor ?
It's in my list... Thsnks
can u plz tell me the name of that small that u used for drilling
Now that you've been working with them for a while I'd like to know whether they work hardened on you or whether they would at all (i haven't used armature wire before)
They are perfect... The only thing is that are not as straight as new so they don't look as good... But they hold the position even better...
Hey thanks for the response, Now i have to find some wire
Grande giacomo, come sempre !!!! ti ho mandato un msg qualche giorno fa
Makers at Work Ciao Giuseppe! Mi sa che non mi è arrivato... Dove l'hai mandato?
Giaco Whatever dove ci siamo sentiti l'altra volta
How about your drill bit trays inside your drawers, are they 3D printed? If yes, do you have the .STL's? Also where to get those drawers?
+paulham yes 3d printed... I don't have the stl but they are REEEALLY EASY to model... Check on thingivers they had similar ones...
Ok cheers. I might do something similar
Fine. What was that spraying thing? What is it for?
+Predrag Nikolić I think it was 'activator'. It makes the glue harden almost straight away :-)
Where did you get the bit and socket holder for your drawers
+Jean-Francois Prince i 3d printed it
👍🏻
Manteb pakdhe
Why didn't you just screw the base of the pre-made unit to the Butcher Block base?
Much easier and more useful.
because the prefab is total junk.
Got a briliant tools cabinet, but can't afford a depth stop.
Salut giaco, c'est quoi la bombe de spray que tu utilise régulièrement ? C'est pour vernir, coller ? Merci.
+Thomas ALLAIN yes it's for making the glue dry in 3 seconds...
How thick is the wire?
what kind of wires did you use for the stem?
He used Armature wire, but you could use very heavy copper wire.
bro, i cant find alligator clip flat tip like you, do you have a link for that?
No I'm sorry I got the in a dollar store locally...
get allig8or clips and heat shrink the tips. No more exposed wire
Awesome. Do you recall the gauge of the wire?
Sure, 5mm! Thanks man!
He used 5mm Armature wire, but you could use very heavy copper wire.
Hi, the vid is good, but you didnt mention what materials were used to make it, so that the viewers like me could look for those in the market. Thanks n looking forward..
It's just thick steel wire and some alligator clips.
I really like the beginning... I think you should alway break something before you make something!
Plus... You should use your impersonation of an American voice that you do so well. Share it with the world!!!
Ahahah yes I'll probably do it my friend!!! I just don't wanna argue with my robot assistant... :-)
lolz xD
the cable doesn't breaking a part?
if not what is this cable?
Armature wire... made for it...
@@GiacoWhateverOR use very heavy copper wire.
What dimensions did you use and what size of wire did you use?
The helping hand clip is close to 4mm in diameter which would be more like 6 gauge wire (5/32).
yeah thats it ....what um searching of
What kind of wire did you use for the arms?
4mm Aluminum armature wire
@@GiacoWhatever He used Armature wire, but you could use very heavy copper wire.
Does moving the arms ever create a weak spot to where they'll break?
No! They are used to make dolls... So I really don't think...
+Giaco Whatever What is the material? tin wire? I went to Home Depot and craft store but did not find it... let me know what word to search. Thanks.
Shigeru Yokoyama: in the description "THE WIRE I USED is: 5mm armature wire"
not sure why the robot voice is used, but would have been nice to list the items used, esp the gauge of the bendable wire, looks like house wiring ?
Jhow do you make the automated voice
Why is the background music actual🔥 tho??
What type of wire is that?
+JAMdiversified I think it was aluminium wire I used to see people use it for securing sculptures It's just a thick metal wire in the end. You can find some from hobby shops or just order it online.
what materials are needed
what size wire did you use
The helping hand clip is close to 4mm in diameter which would be more like 6 gauge wire (5/32).
is that hot glue??
