I did the math and Samuel's donation accounts for about 2% of Undertale's budget, that's actually very kind of Samuel, he is a huge help to the Undertale community.

Personally for me I never really had any hate for So Sorry, I always thought his design was pretty unique and his battle is pretty adorable and quirky which fits extremely well into a game like Undertale plus the arguements use against So Sorry could apply to other characters that are actually in the game too, so overall a nicely done video!

A furry is who like anthro animals (so i am:) ). We sometimes make fursonas which is his/her personality and an anthro animal (sometimes it's kind of mixed).
Short version: Sam donated a large sum of money to support the game, which he'd been interested in since day one of the demo. Sam and Toby then worked on a character to use, as per the donation incentive, Toby himself picking Sam's fursona out of all his characters. They even made the character's personality the total opposite of how Sam and his fursona normally are, to the point where Sam's friends initially thought ALPHYS was Sam's character for the game, and then went out of their way to make sure as few people actually find him as possible and it's clear as crystal that he's not a canon character. Then upon discovery of the character, people who hated him to begin with began trolling around and everyone harassed Sam so much he can't even be mentioned in the artbook and his name had to be removed from the credits, all because people were under the impression that this porn-hating artist inserted a porn OC into the game. On top of this, a lie then got spread that Toby hated having to include the character and named him So Sorry as an apology to players, when Sam came up with the name as a reference to Dad Jokes, and then another one claiming killing him doesn't ruin a Pacifist run.

What I wonder more is why, despite both having been purchased at the $500 reward level, Muffet was afforded her own unavoidable boss encounter and a total of three separate rooms (two unavoidable ones) specifically dedicated to her, while Glyde is not only a mere regular encounter, but is hidden away such that most players never even realize he exists.
You can actually avoid Muffet's encounter by buying one of the two spider stuff you can find at the ruins and then eat it during the beggining of the Muffet encounter

That is the first time I've seen Homestuck mentioned next to Undertale with any significant importance. I'm proud.
How strange! I've always felt Homestuck was hugely influential upon Undertale... I would have expected someone to have pointed it out sooner than I did 8)
Underlab Nope! Homestuck is not as well known as it deserves to be, despite its strangeness, and I fear it never will since it ended last April. I think its major influences on Undertale were the strangeness and the music, otherwise, Undertale was kind of its own thing.

Well, Andrew Hussie did say in one of his update notes that he's friends with Toby. It kinda just says that their style and such is similar in terms of strangeness and weirdness (but making stories still loveable despite their stupidness haha).

I haven't seen so much anger and tantrum because of something so little and insignificant in a LONG time... and not to mention that just because of one more minuscule thing, the entire furry community gets even more hate. As it comes and goes, I suppose...
I can understand people recognizing the character and disliking the origins; it's understandable that people would find a distaste for that sort of thing. I agree that it wasn't really worth causing a fuss, however. Hell, I would never have known where the character came from if I had not seen this video. I would've assumed it was either a fan made Undertale character or something that Toby drew when he was bored and put into the game as an Easter egg.

I have a question about something in undertale. I'm not sure if there is an answer but if there is it may be an interesting video.
If human souls persist after death, why does Frisk's soul shatter when they die?
the soul itself is probably attacked
or over-determination
I'm not so sure but when you kill a monster (nonboss) it completely shatters as in you can't see the soul. when frisk dies his soul only lasts a few seconds so maybe when they killed a human they put the soul in a containment jar to preserve it. and the only other time this happens is boss monsters as their souls are relatively stronger.
If they had no determination, they wouldn't be able to use the save points and reset.
I think it's because of the need to "go back" after death. So after they die, they shatter their own soul (instinctively I think) so that they may release determination around them, just enough for a save file load since determination is needed to do that.

That's because it's your thing. 'He fits well for your tastes' is a poor reason to accept something.
That said, I've got nothing against So Sorry and nothing about it fits my tastes, I took it more as a self-insert character and was glad it was hidden away instead of the actual game. Just like how the fantrolls in Homestuck were just shown for like one page before being obliterated on Homestuck, haha. I didn't know the character was even vaguely related to any kind of fetish/community besides 'furry' before people peeked into the fan's art gallery page.
Even then I don't give a shit, I'm just amazed a video was made on this so long after Undertale's release. Saw it in my recommended page and went "Whaaaaat?"

I'm good friends with Samael's partner and I also have chatted a few times with Sam themself, and they're a big sweetheart!
Yeah, okay, big fat stuff can be weird for most of y'all--even I find it weird and I'm a fat fur artist myself--, but it doesn't make it inherently sexual nor does make 'em a bad person for doing it, even if the intention were actually fetishistic.
Furthermore, Sammy never intended to rub a fat fetish in the face of any player anyway. The result was just an adorable plump nerdy dragon--pretty much the real Sammy, but a few pounds slimmer.

I used to do collabs with Sam-Sam on deviantART (look up Iggy Hazard if you don't believe me) and I can vouch for them pretty much being "the original Alphys" so to speak. Only they're even more of a right-brain introvert (as anxiety-ridden artistic types tend to be). Their pronoun of choice was "he" back in the day (2006-ish).
@@Emyr_r Some people is hypocrites. Also, they tend to act like it's their first day on the internet. Also notice how they're all for LGBTQ, but freak out at anthro weight gain. It's not a fetish for everyone! For some, it's a phobia. Lots of artists use their phobias for inspirado. Also, if it makes it easier for some people, they can think of forced weight gain as a form of body horror. Not all body horror has to be done in the style of David Cronenberg (which is the kind that would give Alphys PTSD flashbacks).

Personally, I think So Sorry is adorable. His origins may be iffy, and the fact that he got into the game may be disappointing to some, but Samael knew the risks when he made the donation, and both Samael and Toby knew the risks when planning to put So Sorry in the game. That could be why he's a secret, out of the way character. And think about it. At least it isn't some typical anime dude. Either way, without Samael's 1000 dollar donation, Undertale might be a totally different game.

I wish more videos like this had been made early on. The lies and rumours about so-sorry got so out of hand, but I guess it also happened quite quickly. It's just so sad that Toby himself was (I believe) the first to tell people to stop bullying the main funder of the game.
So-Sorry is an awesome guy instantly for his donation, but I've never ever seen fanart of him that's not offensive, or hear anyone simply praise him. He did more for Undertale than most of us and we shat on him. This is going to be a permanent stain on the fandom. Damage has been done.

Its weird that people will play and enjoy a game where a goat monster basically adopts you, you date a male skeleton, befriend another skeleton and a fish monster then date a female lizard monster but then immediately (in the same universe) go "eww fury!". Like really? THAT's their line they won't cross? Dating an animated corpse and a reptilian monster (as a child) = fun, but FIGHTING a furry persona = AHHH! WTF!
I just kind of see furries as "yay mascots!" or "the real world feels more like a video game when your around! Awesome!".

According the the furry hate base though, anthropomorphic animals or animal-like beings with anthro traits are considered furries. So I don’t know whether it’s changed depending on what kind of creature or not, but you can’t make any anthro animal character without being treated like shit on the internet anymore.

Just leave Samael alone. Admit it, half of you would've donated the money to see your character in the game if you could afford it. Just because he draws fetish art doesn't mean he's a bad person. Neither does the character in general. Said character is genuinely affectionate and is one of the few that doesn't want to hurt you.
Why does no one ever look beyond someone's interests anymore? If a guy likes something weird nowadays, he's automatically a douchebag. It's a horrible way of thinking that needs to stop soon before this world goes to shit.

I'll agree that THEY need to leave the guy alone, but as an artist wouldn't have payed that much just to have my character put in a game. I mean, I wouldn't even pay 15 to have my favorite artist draw my character. I feel like I'll just make a game to have my characters in. Don't you think 1,000 dollars is a little much for that little part?

I would have donated to help a game get made, but that's for the game and not to insert my characters in it.
I believe in crowd funding a game/supporting a game before its officially released, in fact I did with We Happy Few, and I still don't regret it to this day. Its just, if the people making WHF said "Give us 1,000 bucks and we'll put your character in this game", I still wouldn't.

Originally much like muffet, so sorry was going to have a more substantial appearance with a theme in his encounter being about artist inspiration and confidence. The idea seemed really cute but the concern over potential controversy is what relegated the character to secret boss status

I used to do collabs with Sam-Sam on deviantART years before Undertale was even a twinkle in Toby's imagination-go-nuts (circa 2006-ish). I'd describe Sammy as a gentle soul and that's what I always like about them. Okay, so maybe their *soft* side is *softer* than most (yes, that's an anthro weight gain joke), but so what? Sheesh! Some people act like it's their first day on the internet or something!

I'm so happy someone actually knows furries aren't sex addicts, or like bestiality, some are really screwed up and have sex with actual animals, and that's nasty. I'm a furry, and I just like anthro animals, I like to draw them because I find them really cool, one of my favorite OCs is a nord warrior dragon named Iizdiiven, she's probably the one thing I'm actually proud of in my art.

As much as I love being in fandoms... there is also a bunch of complete pricks. They try to shove their opinions and hatred down your throat till you choke and do it so much and so often that you give up on the fandom entirely. It’s sometimes really hard to find the right people in a fandom, but it’s nice when you do find good people. You can make friends and share thoughts and just talk, but It just makes life harder when people tell you to “Kill yourself “ or that “You’re cringe” just for making something different or having a different opinion.

Samael is literally the coolest person I've seen that's related to this game in any way. He's a chill guy and honestly as the game sorta fades into memory, he's been one of the handful of really good things I continue to enjoy about the game going forward.
