When I was a little boy this movie made me cry At the end when the cub is roaring at the mountain lion I’m 33 now and still and always will remember this movie
I been a hunter and trapper most of my adult life In the remote mountains of British Columbia (68now) I've always loved this movie, it really touches one's soul, I don't think I could kill another bear, I just don't have it in me anymore.....Respect...
Why did you kill any in the past Albert? Genuine question from a man in the north of England who knows nothing of the wilderness? Hope my question is not improper. 🙏
@@robertloader9826 I killed bears for different reasons...My family and I ate most of them I tanned and used the fur, I sold Gaul blatters and feet (not the reason for killing them but might as well make use of everything possible...illegal now) We lived over 20 years off-grid in the forest..some bears would be a danger to my kids and kill my animals and had to be eliminated...don't get me wrong I respect the animal for what it is ..a bears nose is 10 x stronger than a blood hound....My dad used to say " "A man is like a fine cognac...we mellow with age""
Albert, that is amazing to hear from somebody who has seen the real thing - still seeing the value of life and beauty of nature... Too many hunters don't any more 😢
This is the movie that started my Love for bears. Especially Brown Bears. Maybe if I win the lottery , I can take a month long trip to Alaska during the Salmon run and watch these magnificent animals in real life. Bucket List...#1
i watched "the bear" 1988 multiple times in theater with my friend wesley, haven't talked to him ages, not sure what ever happened with him. good times! he insisted we return to watch it multiple times he liked it alot.
I love how Tom had a change of heart not to shoot and kill the bear where he was probably thinking from 0:31-0:39 "wait a minute, I can't shoot him, he had the opportunity to kill me but chose not too."
@@mrbuck5059 Uh, a bear isn't a full on mindless killer. Even if a bear or any other animal attacked, they have a reason to. Bears are rather reclusive and docile animals, unless someone does something stupid to trigger its aggression then yes, a bear would mess someone up. It's all about learning, understanding and getting to know them better is how to keep them from showing aggression towards us, unfortunately, many chose not to do so and instead blame them for attacks and deaths on humans. I'd rather be killed by an animal, than by another human. Because an animal doesn't know any better, whereas a human should already know better. More people die from murderers, machines, natural disasters, diseases and heart problems as well as parasites than people dying from humans combined.
@@TheKaijuGamer_ well just to let you know. I lived and worked in Alaska for 5 years as a communication tower technician and I traveled all over that state. I carried a 300 Wetherby Vanguard or a Remington 7 MM with me all the time. Even to the shelter inside the compound. I left bears alone but I sure hell ain't going to get hurt or eaten by one.
@@mrbuck5059 There you go, you leave bears alone and you have a gun to shoot at the ground or air to scare it off. Again, if you do something stupid, then yes, a bear will go after you, but if you just leave it be and are at a safe distance, just go on and be alarmed. Even if it charges at you, just shoot at the ground or in the air, shooting and injuring it would just make it enraged.
@ TheKaijuGamer_2003 They say if a bear charges at you, that you should not run or move because soon it will stop and will stand on it’s back legs to make itself big to scare you and you just have to put your arms in the air so the bear will think you are bigger than it. If you run, that will show the bear that you are weaker than it.
Yes. If the animal dies or has issues finding their way home...it's very hard to watch. I get very caught up in the moment. If I know an animal dies, I won't watch the movie...Just can't do it.
Was this film in French, then dubbed in English? I’ve see the actor who played Tom in other movies, he has this low silky beautiful voice when speaking French….here, he sounds nothing like himself.
Damn, it’s a pity that Bart the bear didn’t live to see the film The Revenant (2015), in this film he would have played a great bear who fought with DiCaprio, it would have been a massacre for an Oscar
I think the yellow boy sort of was meant to be a Winchester 1876 - judging by the cartridges and ammunition box seen earlier in the movie - beautiful rifle anyway, makes one forgive the reality mistake
After the bear spared him Tom realized that he had encountered something greater and more noble than himself.
The amount of respect portrayed in this scene is immense

Yeah I didn’t like that part at all when I was a kid.

That cougar was horrible. Wanted the big bear to rip it to shreds
@@Heatseeker872591in fact, a book about the making of this movie said the cougar was afraid of the cub which made filming very difficult 😂
@@Heatseeker872591 you really tried to personalize a animal?

I love the look on Tom's face when he grabs Bill's gun
So do I.
I watched this movie for the first time when I was in 2nd grade,
when we were learning about bears. I'll never forget my 2nd grade teacher.

I feel the same way. You should look up the air field cub in russua. Bansur
Me too
Thats what Timothy Treadwell said........
@@jeffharper3047 He literally NEVER said that..... Guy was trying to Live amongst the Brown bears and interact with them like they were poodles. lol
Good for u
I do respect and love bears!
Yes me to
Just be careful not to respect and love them as much as Timothy Treadwell….🤦🏻♂️
One of my all time favorite films.
A powerful scene
The Greatest Trill Is NOT To Kill.
But To Let Live.... 🐻

I admit I didn't initially recognize this actor years later in "The Patriot". Now I do. It's the eyes

I remember watching this a lot when I was like 5. I love bears but man oh man are they some scary creatures! Massive respect for these beings.
When an animal teaches you humanity.
Been years since ive seen this movie
That was a great ending

I'm grateful.
The Grizzly King.
Pretty sure it’s out of print and hard to find but I’d love to read that.
I have hunted animals before good movie for a dreamer but i like collecting my trophies 🏆

0:34. So relieved that he made the right decision. The bear spared his life, it would have totally wrong for him to turn around and take hers.
Can someone please tell me where can I watch this movie, just finished the book (Grizzly King) and I can't find the movie anywhere.
حلو اوي بس يريت تجبولنا الفلم كامل
Huh.
Well I wouldn’t have shot him either, that rifle would have just pissed that bear off and would have killed them.
You really want to shoot the bear
That pea size bullet isn’t going to do nothing
That bear is more than you can handle
Live to fight another day
Lol that martini Henry would’ve blown a hole the size of a water melon from that bear.

A yellow boy would just annoy it, you want a sharps 50
The other dude had a Martini Henry. If it's good enough for Zulus then it's good for kodiaks
I heard after this happened he got into the drug dealing business in Miami but ended up getting caught by 2 cops named Marcus and Mike 🤦🏾♂️
God created these majestic beasts to roam the Earth. Bears are considered equal to Man.
