The Bear is a sheer triumph of cinema in the wild! Notable for its stunning cinematography, minimal dialogue, and outstanding animal performances, director Jean-Jacques Annaud's (Quest For Fire, The Name of the Rose) astonishing tale of wilderness survival has thrilled and charmed audiences and critics all over the world.
Set in 19th-century British Columbia, The Bear follows the story of a young cub and an adult grizzly as they join forces to survive the perils inherent in their mountain habitat. With each passing obstacle, the two bears further develop a friendship that can only make them stronger - but will it be enough for them to overcome their most deadly enemy?
An adventure story with heart and humanity, The Bear remains a breathtaking and powerful experience decades after its original release. Presented here in a special 25th Anniversary Collector's Edition from Shout! Factory, The Bear proves itself a film to celebrate again and again.
This movie always ALWAYS makes me cry. Bart was so gentle with the cub. This movie reminds me of my childhood. I still watch it to this day with a box of tissues handy.
I hear you Wolf. The scene near the end when the mountain lion has the little fella cornered. When the camera pans and we see Bart (unbeknownst to the little bear) standing up and growling at the mountain lion. That scene gets me EVERY TIME !!!!
@@rosss1959 it makes me happy to know the little cub has a father. He will always be there for him and love him. Every time I watched it I cried. Id find my grandma and cry on her arms. Shes passed now. So watching this and not having her rips my heart out :*(
@@wolfblood1114 Yes it was good to know the little fella had a companion to look out for it. As for grandma (of which I lost mine too). I hope when you think of her it makes you smile (recalling all the wonderful memories). And hey.....just like the little bear, we have 'guardian angels looking over us. :)
@@rosss1959 oh...u made me tear up q bit. Thank u times a million. Yes I miss her.
@@wolfblood1114 I hope it was a happy tear and that a smile came with it? I'd bet my last dollar that's what she would want for you. God bless you my friend.
One of the most beautiful films ever made.

I love this bear so cute and innocent poor little bear RIP
I love this scene, I have watched it for 10 times now, its heart touching... the bears were innocent, the hunter was a killer, it should not have happened.
Makes you think of The Revenant differently. Leo shoulda just not fucked with the bears.
OH Big Daddy love. Such a beautiful scene this one.
Oh my little love. These animals should be protected by all humanity! Lady Judith
They kinda sorta are that’s part of why we have zoos
Once they were and they will be again. All humans will care for each and every animal as they were intended to do so.
This scene gets me every time
ME TOO!!
Perhaps Annaud is counseling children of all ages who are watching that one act of kindness goes a long way

Rest in peace Bart the Bear and Youk
First film I ever saw in theater at age 6!!! So happy to find this gem to share with my own kiddos. Although I they are a bit older than I was lol. It was pretty intense for such a young age but now as an adult I can truly appreciate the beauty!!

Who is bart?
@@Davi.Abraham.Millman Bart The Bear is the actor who portrays The Kodiak Bear. He was fairly prominent for being an animal, also appearing in works such as The Clan Of The Cave Bear, Benji The Hunted, The Great Outdoors, White Fang (1991), Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey, On Deadly Ground, Legends of the Fall, Twelve Monkeys, Homeward Bound II: Lost In San Franciso, The Edge and somehow even Meet The Deedles.
Bear: Go away you little brat
Cub: Licks his wounds
Bear: Ok kid you’re not so bad
I cry watching this movie.
Trying to clean "Bart the Bear's" wounds...LOVE!!!
@Julie Wendt I agree, it was very sweet that the baby grizzly was healing the bears injury after getting shot since the adult grizzly probably rested in the mud to wash the blood off. (When I first saw this movie, I thought the baby grizzly thought the blood was honey which is why he licked it).
The cub's mummy probably did that when he got stung by bees, so maybe it works when someone's hurt by stingers that come from a gun
1:10-1:50
Youk- I'm gonna lick your wound ( starts licking the wound)
Bart-hey, what are you do- this feels good
Youk-I'm almost done mister
Bart- I feel a little better, thank you kid (giving him a couple of licks)
Youk-you're welcome mister
Bart-please since you helped clean my wound, I have a feeling you lost your mother I'll take care you
Youk-really?
Bart-yes and you can call me papa
Youk- ok papa
Bart became a surrogate father.
Gave Big Boy hope and cleaned up the wound. Great film

It's "June: Bacarolle From The Seasons" by Ptyor Tchaikovsky. Beautiful-
"Brother Bear" reference.
Ouinn Ouinn Disney is shit
Not really, because in Brother Bear, the human character gets turned into a bear.
Whereas in this film, it is basically a Nature film=)
This came out before Brother Bear
My love bear❤❤❤❤❤ like is you love bear🐻🐻🐻
Ohhhh yess.
I wish this was realistic behavior for male grizzlies in the wild, but unfortunately if this happened in the real world the male would eat the cub.
It is true that adult Male bears will attack and kill little cubs especially for food
@71crm I didn’t know that an adult grizzly would eat a cub since it’s their own species. Like for example, if there was an adult crocodile and a baby crocodile in the river, it would be surprising if the adult ate the baby. (On the other hand, big fish eat little fish).
afriendofbean Well actually I’m not sure 100% if the males would eat the cubs, but they would kill the cub, this is because male bears don’t want to have competition from younger bears (I think that’s the reason please feel free to correct me if I’m wrong.) But quite possibly the male would eat the cub just because bears tend to eat a lot
@71crm I didn’t think adult bears would kill and/or eat a cub since they’re both the same species. For example, when we see bears at the zoo, they’re not hurting each other since they’re all put and locked in the same area together. On the other hand, at the end of this “Bear”, movie, a mountain lion chased after this cub to eat it since they are two different animals but both carnivores. Plus, this bear cubs friend scared away the mountain lion instead of getting in a fight with the adult to see who eats who.
@@71crm Don't be ridiculous. Male bears are more aggressive and larger than female bears
The Grizzly King.
Brother bear????!!!!!!
Did this adult grizzly decide to be the cubs friend just because he healed his injury? Otherwise maybe the only reason he acted cranky towards the cub because he was in agony since he roared at the cub a lot like he was saying "don't bother me and just go away, I'm in too much agony."
Watch the movie. This scene goes deeper than him licking his wound. There’s a message with this story.
@@Feed-My-Mind-Not-My-Ego I have seen the movie and after this scene of the cub licking away the blood, both the cub and the adult grizzly became friends where they stayed with each other for the rest of the film and ate and slept with each other.
Prehistoric america (2003)
@@pedrocampos691 What do you mean?
@zachariahkelley5298 Something tells me that the bear wouldn’t have been concerned if the cubs mom was around (she was dead at that point) because they are all the same species who wouldn’t hurt each other. Before the adult bear growled at the cub, maybe the cub came to him for help being lonely where the adult bear waved his paw at him like he was saying, “go away, I’m in too much agony to think about having a friend or being helpful now.” But when the cub licked and healed him, I guess the adult bear was then able to think straight and become his friend and take care of him being lonely.

Are these real actual bears or a really good CGI?
real actual bears
The big bears real name is Bart the bear...He passed away from Cancer back in 2000, But, There's footage of him on UA-cam and when Mike Myers had to give him an oscar award back in March of 1998
Jin Joo A combination of both. Bart did the scene of laying in the mud and sweeping the mud onto the wound and he did the growling and licking his lips. Douce(Youk) did the licking of the fake wound on either something separate or something on the animatronic bear. The scene with the adult bear licking the cub was done by Bart licking something off a puppet made of the cub.
Ask the Animal eaten by the bear if they are mourning to
Good soup
Cub was hungry. Probably ate some of it after it died.
