- (5 Sep 1996) The Indian State of Jammu and Kashmir, under direct rule from Delhi for the past seven years, holds its first state elections since 1987 this Saturday (7/09) over a period of four days: September 7, 16, 23 and 30.
The holding of elections is being opposed by the coalition of Kashmir Moslem fundamentalist, separatist and nationalist organizations known as the Hurriyat Conference. They want full autonomy or independence before elections.

The elections of 1987 were the root cause of modern uprising in Kashmir... Had Indian intelligence and Indian government and national conference not played foul during these elections kashmir would not have been there where it is today.....

When you tell your children about the presence of heavy army in the valley also let them know why army was rushed into the valley in 90s what you did with Kashmiri Pandit, how their parents were involved in cleansing of one Community. It was when all state machinery failed Army was rushed in to control the scenario. Listen to the interview of then separatist militants like bilware and Afzal Guru (brief period was involved) who describe the situation as mere business and killing of innocent people.

@@TMBpk Sweetheart. The numbers are well above 500 and more than 100000 displaced. The Jammu Riots were in retaliation of Mirpur Riots and not to mention about a Million Hindus and Sikhs killed in Pakistan.
