i've got to admit that at first i found it pretty boring and out of place, because i didnt really understand it; but after listening it over and over again and watching the movie i can finally get the powerful message behind it and the importance it has in pink's story ... and it makes me emotional too, now
No one noticed that Viktor Afanasyev was here. He was a talented conductor and perhaps the only Russian conductor inclined toward freedom rather than tyranny. Unfortunately, he was harmed by Valery Khalilov.

Not so surprisingly when you know Roger's background. It gives me goosebumps every time.
It's even more significant because some of the musicians onstage are Soviet soldiers who were enforcing the East/West divide.
