- This small recipe will make about 15-18 manteconchas OR about 12 100 gram conchas. Great size for a small family.

1/2 recipe measurements:
For dough:
500 g bread flour
150 g granulated sugar
250 ml warm milk
1 1/2 T. yeast
50 g butter, room temp
50 g vegetable shortening
2 eggs, room temp
For topping:
Equal parts vegetable shortening, bread flour, and confectioner's sugar. For this small recipe I used 1 1/4 cup of each ingredient.

Let me know if you have any questions...the ingredients list is in the description box. Then just follow the steps of mixing together, letting dough rise for about 2 hours or until doubled. Knead for 5 minutes, let rise again about 30-45 minutes. Then shape the dough, add the topping, let rise one more time about 30 minutes. Bake!

I just use Red Star active dry yeast, instant works, too.

Did these come out light and airy or more dense?
Light and so good! It's my go to recipe! I grew up eating pan dulce from our town's little panaderia. It's funny how we get used to something...no other pan I've bought anywhere else is even close to how good theirs is! LOL! This is close, though...so, I love it! It's not eggy or heavy. (I think I'm used to more of a Michoacan style of pan dulce.)

It had good flavor, but that was about it lol and all the other recipes I’ve seen on TY they look like the one I made when they were cut open so I wasn’t even about to waste my time/ingredients trying just to be disappointed 🤦♀️🤣 #yesimthatpickyaboutmyconchas 😆😂
