- Welcome to Street Pigeon MTB. In this video I ride the longest-travel trail bike I have ever ridden. Spoiler alert... It absolutely rips! To the point where I think long-travel trail bikes might just be the most fun bikes available right now.
We dive deep on the new Bird Aeris AM, the spiritual successor to the amazing Bird Aeris AM9. It's a bonkers good trail bike. The Aeris AM features everything Bird have become known for. Progressive geometry, massive standover height, responsive pedalling dynamics, all packaged in our lightest and most advanced all-mountain frame to date. This is the longest travel trail bike they have ever made.
Bird like to point out that the new Aeris AM is:
- Light enough to ride all day, strong enough to tackle the biggest challenges.
- Bird’s 4th generation, compact frame design give max clearance for you on the descents, while still leaving room for a 750ml bottle and storage pack.
- 160mm of efficient travel, capable of riding any trail up or down.
- Lifetime warranty on all frame bearings including bottom bracket and headset (with Enduro BB/Headset upgrade)
- A price you can afford, without compromising on quality, service or style.
So feel free to jump in and see how I get on riding the longest travel trail bike I have ever ridden!

Ive recently gone back to long travel trail bike from full enduro rig as I just preferred the agility and climbing ability vs out and out DH performance. The trail bike was arguably better in tight off piste situations as well.
I I was Bird I would be super pleased with the balance of information, entertainment and the quality of the footage in the edit, superb!
Cheers bud. I totally get your reasoning for the switch and I think I'm on the same page as you 👍
Looks amazing and so good to see you having so much fun. Fantastic video
Cheers man. Vlogging is a strange thing, but I love capturing some of those genuine moments of fun we all have on bikes. Bikes are awesome 👌
@@streetpigeonmtb agree bike are fun. More than that they are life. Well maybe for me. But loved this vlog and the commentary by Bird
@Mugtree I'm with you! Cheers buddy 👍
The Bird Ares AM handled the tech features of Glentress well (along with your great riding skills 👍) works great on flow trails too - nice one! Now off to check out your recent post on Laggan Wolftrax new trails, heading there tommorow, thanks for sharing! 😁🤙
Cheers buddy. Have a great Laggan adventure 👌
What a bike Jamie. 👌
Cheers mate. It was so much fun to point down a trail 👌
Aw man, the new bird looks stunning. Been eyeing one of these for a while to replace my am9 but I ended up buying an ebike during the sales. Its a shame bird has to shelve their ebike.
Great vid as always
Yeah, this new bike is something else. I'm sure Bird will have an eeb eventually and I imagine it will be brilliant 👏
Oh wow what a difference your confidence was ooooodeling confidence on new one ( hope your getting one ? 🤘🏻) Good one mate cheers enjoy!🤘🏻👍
Cheers! Yeah, there should be one coming at some point. Excited to get on it!
@@streetpigeonmtb well way you rode that you was like someone else erm I always follow your and like subscribed but I never commented sorry but this got me to actually say something lol cheers 🍻🤘🏻
@Mel1175 no problem at all. Good to hear from you 👌😁
@@streetpigeonmtb cheers 🍻🤘🏻
Seen your new rig when I was getting ready in the car park at GT.
Looks long and purple..erm
🤣🤣🤣
I understand why you have internal routing on this but don't remove the option for external on your alu frames as that is becoming a real USP and massive incentive for my new Aether.
👍😁
Its because on the carbon frames we run a straight tube for the post, then route past the BB - to give massive dropper insertion. Adding an external routing for the dropper would interrupt the seat tube insertion and mean we lost the huge depth. So, if we can't externalise the dropper for that reason, we chose to internalise them all.
That flow trail looked amazing, like a miniature Lovey Dovey?
I'd agree with that 👌👍
Yeah longer travel trail bikes climb so well too.
Climbs really well. It's a couple of kg lighter than my enduro bike so I really felt it on the climbs 👍
We need more golfie vids!!! Love the content tho
You read my mind. Next video coming from Golfie buddy 👍
Looks like a great bike. Could tell you were enjoying it .
Cheers buddy!@rhettetherington1351
Hi mate well done on that video. Just wondered if you’ve ever done speyside up ne Scotland ? I know you did tarland but I’ve heard speyside is another good one.
I haven't. Didn't even know there was stuff there!
Oh yes I’ll see if I find a link to them but a guy from my work sent me pics and it looks so good.
@scottmo31 yeah. You need to check out the Grurple colourway! It's immense. That would be my choice.
Actually a pretty interesting brand. Would like to see a bit more poppy colors in their lineup though.
I would genuinely encourage you to demo one. Really lovely bikes to ride. Have you checked out the Grurple colourway on this bike???
@@streetpigeonmtb I bought a Pivot Switchblade in 2022 that is still in great condition, so I got all the bike that I need. I also have no option to demo this brand in my country.
I did actually consider this brand when I was looking back in 2022, but I found the bike I own now at a local bikeshop just sitting there and with all the right parts etc. The choice was simple.
I still like what Bird is doing and I think they just also need a bit more recognition in general, because I still hardly ever hear about this brand at all. Think it flies under the radar of most to be frank.
@a8f235 I'm really hoping this bike gets them some more recognition. It would be deserved 👍
Great video!
What was the second trail after Ho Chi Minh?
Cheers buddy. It was Jailbreak 👍
It might actually be called Skullduggery. I think the name has changed a few times.
Cheers... Don't think I've done that but looks like I'll have to never time
@burtrob2 it's really, really good. One of my favourites for sure!
@@streetpigeonmtb where is it located on the hill? Didn't recognise the start or finish at all!
Are they Downhill tyres? It must be made for some serious hits. I normally run Trail up front and gravity rear. That’s saves about half a kilo
Not downhil tyres. Tacky Chans with trail/enduro casings I think. You are right though, tyre choice plays critically into weight. I would say the Tacky Chans were seriously impressive. Seemed to have great rolling resistance but big grip on the loose/slippy stuff.
@@streetpigeonmtb I’m looking a a chan front with rock razor rear for summer and trail centres. I use magic Mary and Big Betty in the wet slop and winter
@leetori1 nice. These are the first Schwalbe I've ridden and I was really impressed 👌
how did they get down to 12.6 kg with a 160mm 29er is beyond me.
I'm pretty sure the one I was riding was more like 14kg. Nice to have a capable bike that is light. Makes the climbing a lot more fun 😁
