IKEA certainly isn't very otaku aware. They discontinued the perfect manga bookcases, and has never made any new ones. Instead they just have dozens of inferior bookcases for putting random junk in them. Sure if you buy the regular kind, you can make double row manga, which is good for space, but not good for access. And I am mostly out of space these days, so it is not horrible with regular bookcases.

I actually went to Ikea yesterday to see about getting some detolfs and only found out then that they have been discontinued. While there I got a chance to inspect the Blalinden in person. Three things make the blalinden a definite no for me. 1) The metal edges that obscure views of your collection unless you're directly in front of the case. 2) The narrower design. As you say for starting collectors it's not necessarily an issue if they only put 1 or 2 figures on each shelf, but we all know from experience that despite wanting to start out that way, our collections soon grow to the point where 3 per shelf is much more likely. 3) The thinner glass. With the metal edge supports I think the sides will be less likely to break than the regular detolf that is over-tightened, but the thinner shelf glass is very troubling, maybe not as much for anime figure collectors as they are lightweight plastic, but for those of us who have die-cast figures or even statues it's a red flag.
Yeah, those 3 points are mainly why I don't think I'll be switching; but I'm glad collectors have more options. I personally like thicker glass, for sturdiness, and it makes the case seem higher quality. The Terravault case has 1/2 inch glass shelves, which are heavy as hell, but they look and feel so nice. And I can understand why IKEA would like to reduce glass thickness, since it will reduce the weight and cost of manufacturing the display cases (which in turn allows them to keep prices low). But I'm curious if we'll see in the future that people shatter the glass of BLALIDEN due to accidents which wouldn't normally happen with thicker glass.
Wow, you managed to make me sit through an entire video about IKEA furniture, and figures aren't even my hobby. Good editing and pacing my guy! You earned my sub.
Completely agree. I think if the case is wide enough, frames are okay, since most of the real estate is glass. But with the Detolf and Blaliden, it's not that wide, so frames take up a lot of the viewing space. And frameless detolfs just work better for its size. ☺
@@GoneDeathModeNot agreeing with him, but that has nothing to do with the glass breaking. I have 3 detolfs that I've had for many years. All built by myself. He most likely just over tightened the bolts.
This topic came unexpected, but I really appreciate you looking into it for all of us. I probably won't switch my Detolf out for this, but having options is always good.
I agree, I feel we have a lot more display case options than we did 5 years ago, which is great. And given how many Detolfs are out on the market, it shouldn't be that hard to find one.
The Ikea in my country have both of them, with the detolf still at its old pricing: 60usd, while the Blaliden is at 99usd, I think both have their pros and cons, but for the price difference, I think the detolf is still a no brainer
@@AlienArteStoreMX you can check Indonesia IKEA, they are listed at 999,000 idr which is the equivalent of 66.43 USD. Sorry if you live in a country where it's listed at 120 USD (the listing in IKEA Indonesia is still up as of this comment 26/07/2023) If it no longer exists after... Then that's just the future and rip detolf
I bought two of these for table top minis and I absolutely love them. I'm ordering shelves off of etsy with extra brackets on Friday so I will have 7 shelves installed in each one. These are perfect. I'm getting a milso though for my Star Wars figures but anyone wanting a good tabletop mini display this is a good choice and for $80 I can't complain.
It reminds me of the RUDSTA. I got two of those last year and was happy with my choice. The nice thing is the bottom shelf isn’t enclosed so it can be used for practical storage.
Very good review and very detailed with measurements and dust proofing the case. I think the frame should be smaller, but the way it's made seems to be easier to dust proof and hide the dust proofing because you only need to worry about the door and stick foam between the door and frame. The detolf is nice for viewing angles, but the corners will have a bit of foam there though. I really wish manufacturers would understand that the entire point of a glass cabinet is to prevent dust getting on our collectibles otherwise an entirely open air shelf would be fine. Even the ultra expensive display cabinets don't have any dust proofing!
That was a great video, I was really curious how the new Blaliden compared to the Detolf, definitely had a alot more cons than pros. I am glad you did this, now I know more about what to expect if I get one.
Glad it was helpful. And yes, for me, I find there are more cons than pros, but that doesn't make it a bad case. This may be the perfect case for some people where the Detolf is not. It's great to have more options. ☺
I wanted some Detolf's but kept holding off for various reasons. I was saddened to see they were discontinued because they are perfect for modding. You could buy 2 D's and mod them into a 3 wide display, or 4 wide if you added a back board. I hope they re-release the D again with some minor adjustments but with the same glass panels.
I saw some photos of that, where people would merge detolfs together to make them 2 or 3 detolfs wide. Thought it was a really cool idea. Someone did say detolfs would make a come back with some adjustments, just hard to say when. My local Ikea still has detolfs, so I guess folks can still pick them up in some areas.
The holes for the magnets are supposed to be small like that. That's because the screws that came with it are self-tapping screws. The screws will tap, enlarge, and grip into the door frame. I did; however, had issues with the holes for the shelf mounts. They were not tapped correctly from the factory, hence, the screw were just spinning. Had to use a tap and die kit...
this was actually super helpful, I have completely run out of space for my figures and was looking at another display case. hopefully i find a good one soon
As someone with limited space. The Blaliden is the best case. It’s slightly more compact design allows me to fit 2 in a small cubicle like area I have in my room. I already have planned out the future. When those two are filled, I will eventually find a slightly bigger one to go on the other side of my room. Where there is more space to be shared. Blaliden was just a no brainer with its cost effective price and size. As it seems even the Amazon cases are either really expensive or still over 120$. As of this comment the Blaliden are 80$.
This video randomly showing up on my feed is what I needed without even knowing. I was looking at Båliden to display a few Gundam kits, but couldn't decide between that or the mentioned Billy/Oxberg combination. Very helpful insights!
Nice comparison! Imo, detolfs are clean and Blaliden are neat. Detolfs were hard to get in my country in the first place. We just mostly used bookshelves here.
I have two detolfs and a milsbo. I built the milsbo by myself but it took both my dad and I to build the detolfs. I'm not a fan of the detolf mostly because I questioned their structural integrity. The blaliden on the other hand looks easier to build than the detolf but I would be concerned about the glass being thinner. I really like the milsbo, mainly because it's lifted off the ground.
Your review mate and basic info on this new Blaliden/detolf from building to review overall is great keep up the great work. I have bought two Blaliden so far and buying the last two tommorow, I will be doing a review on mine and overall aspect on weight as i collect gentle giant starwars 1/6 bust.
Here in Germany a lot of people are giving away their used Detolfs (just because they are afraid to break them while moving apartments) for a couple of years now. I have 5 detolfs (all used, but looked like new except for one that had scratches on the top and bottom boards, but I foiled all of them anyway to get a concrete look), 3 cost me nothing, one cost me 15€ and one 20€. I will not switch and for the environment I suggest people to look for used, cheap/free Detolfs as well.
I have 3 detolfs for my figures but I'm going to use IKEA RUDSTA cabinets for the alcoves in my room. I will probably have to saw off the legs on them because I want to stack 2 Rudsta together to make a larger display cabinet.
That is the cabinet I would recommend. I have already done a stack mod to a Rudsta and I believe it turned out nice I posted a video of it. I bought 6 more so I'll have a wall of 4 stacked Rudsta cabinets side by side.
@@hathatfigures3663 it was your Rudsta videos that made me decide on trying something similar for my alcove walls. Your idea idea and guide on how to modify them where easy to follow. I measured the wall my 3 Detolfs are on and decided to move the middle one and buy a Milsbo cabinet for the middle.
I just wish they brought back the all glass doors for Bestas. As someone who has hundreds of action figures, the Detolfs (and now these) are still not an ideal solution. Great video.
I'm blown away by the price you mention. Not sure if it's a territorial thing or the classic bait and switch move by Ikea rising the price absurdly before the change to make you belive the new product is cheaper, but I got my Detolf in spain in 2017 for €50.
Yeah, I got my detolfs for $60 in around 2001, then mid pandemic they bumped it to $100, then this year they bumped it to $130. Then news about discontinuing came around June time. I understand price of materials have gone up worldwide, but yeah, a pretty high bump in price in just a few years.
The size thing really does it for me sadly, I need something that can house larger and heavier figures and so this simply won't cut it. Thanks for the video, it really helped me decide if this display case would do the job so you just saved me a bit of money. Now if only I could find a nice case to house my collection lol
Thanks for the video! Its basically half a milsbo. As someone with 13 detolfs, i welcome the improved design. Looks like i have a plan b when my detolfs shatter
I opted for the Milsbo. They have their pros and cons but ultimately, I like the sturdier design, the wider shelving, adjustable shelving, built-in foot risers and wide array of lighting options. There's also several online companies that produce customization options like additional shelves and hardware, corner shelving, lighting.
@@K3ns4i Yeah, they're pricey but I like the variety of options and you don't need to buy risers for them. The display area is already taller than a detolf but then you get like an additional 8" boost from the feet. I have two currently and planning on getting a third.
Hi, I also have an Milsbo and really like it so far. Only thing is that I can’t find good lighting for my hot toys 1/6 scale figures. Do you maybe have any tips?
@@JDMoes I decided to go with COB LED's in Neutral White. I got a kit from Amazon by Tatazone. It comes with 32ft(two 16ft rolls), a power supply and a remote with dimming options. Although there are two holes on top to run wiring, I decided to drill a 2" hole in the bottom center at the rear and ran it through the bottom to hide the cord. Then ran the lighting up all four corners and along the floor and ceiling. You'll need a splitter/junction kit to do it. It's a little more effort than sticking some strips or pucks on the shelves but its clean and lights everything evenly. No dark patches.
@@JDMoesI use battery powered puck lights that have a remote, then just use rechargeable batteries. Never understood why people mess with all the wires.
TBH, I still prefer the detolf because it gives extra room and has a clean viewing angle of your display items. btw, great video very informative. Thumbs up 👍
I bought plenty of spinnrack DVD bookcases for manga in the past, and those were also all glass. I don't know why they don't make plexiglass products so that one does not have to worry about potential breaking glass. These days though those are discontinued so they probably figured out that glass was a bad material, but didn't figure out that the product was great. (Though it was a DVD product in a digital age, so only people who really wanted to put in small pocket books would buy them).
Ugh yes. We got lucky and found a Detolf in our apartments toss pile but when we moved 4 hours I didn't trust myself to pack it well enough for it to not break. Plexiglass could be a nice cheaper alternative with less breakability.
You have some of my dream figures!! I LOVE the Honkai ones!! The more reviews I see the more I think that I really want the Detolfs back… 😭 I’ve wanted one for ages but thought “oh, there’s no rush”, deciding to wait and buy a few of them after my home renovations were done… just to find out that the Detolf’s been discontinued 🙃 There’s no IKEA in my region too, so finding a second hand one nearby is pretty hard… I’m so sad man, next time I want something I’m just buying it right away. Thanks for the helpful review!!
I haven’t seen a Klingsbo review yet. Slightly larger than the Detolf, taller for sure as it has legs to stand on. Yea it has a floral bottom shelf but can easily be covered up with really any substrate. I just bought one but yet to set it up. I wasn’t aware of the Blaliden product before this video. Good review and comparison.
just wanted to say thanks for this video, I have a rather large Junkerqueen figure from Blizzard and it's 26 pounds and 18 inches tall, this shelf thankfully has adjustable shelves so she'll have to be on the bottom lol
I caught onto getting the Detolf early on when they were really cheap, now the price is more than double. I had already purchased as much I can fit in the basement cave. I did see the Blaliden in the showroom, but just by quick glance, the case is definitely smaller but its nice to have slightly more shelf config options than detolf without the hacks. I do wish the glass panels were not so heavy, but I guess thats what makes them sturdier. Great review!
This is a video I didn't know I needed, thanks. I have 4 custom-lit Detolf myself and have always worried they'd discontinue them(like they did with the lights). For me, these new shelves sound like a NO-GO. Smaller is completely unacceptable and the frame-style housing, does the exact opposite of what this type of display is intended to do. The fixed shelves and diminished weight capacity don't help either. Too bad.
Fantastic video, well done!! I think Detolf's are better than this, but I think Ikea pays little attention to what their products are actually used FOR. Because in terms of figure displaying, this feels like a step backwards unfortunately.
Detolf is notorious for spontaneous glass shattering, so it feels like all this framing is meant to prevent that, which I am all for. Otherwise, I expect the Detolf aftermarket to explode with used units on FB Marketplace et al, so win-win.
Thanks so much for the video! It helped me a lot by deciding if I want to give Blaliden a try and, when I did, it also helped me with assembling it a lot better than the Instructions from Ikea itself would have helped! I will recommend your video to friends who are also considering about buying Blaliden :>
Thanks for this video! Just earned yourself a new Subber! I have a mancave that’s in the works, I have 20 detolfs in the garage waiting to be built and most likely will need more.
Alright! After searching and searching forever, I found the perfect case , like a detolf and moducase had a baby , The BROTTAR! After being mad af for a long time over the discontinued detolf I found these and ended up replacing all my detolfs , and I had 20 😂
A good review overall, fairly well balanced. The only thing I'd like to point out is during the pro and con list, @5:42 why would you list the Blaliden as having a con for adjustable shelf height? It does have limited shelf height adjustability as you mentioned, but a pro and con list comparing the two products, the Detolf has fixed and non-moveable shelves. So even though the Blaliden has limited options for shelf height options, it is in fact way more adjustable than the Detolf. Technically this would be a pro, am I wrong in how a pro and con list works when comparing 2 products? Love the Detolf though, picked up one of the original versions of this up about 20 years ago and still have it to this day.
Good question about the adjustable shelf height. Out of the box, the Blaliden has more height options, while the detolf has fixed shelf heights. However, with the aftermarket shelf clamp for the detolf, you can set the detolf shelves at any height. The blaliden however has it's shelf brackets set in holes that are pre-drilled into the metal frame. And there is nothing really else to lock aftermarket brackets into, so it's going to be much more complicated to set custom shelf heights. Drilling your own holes in the frame will be a nightmare. You could make brackets that stick on the side of the glass with 2 sided tape to hold up the shelf at a custom height, but still may be tricky. Aside from using the default heights, I haven't thought up a good way to set a custom height. But yeah, you are right, when comparing the two stock display cases, having the extra shelf slots is a pro for the Blaliden. But at the same time, the way it's designed, it's a limitation. I wish they just drilled more shelf bracket holes, so instead of having 7 up one side, it's like 15.
Dude nice review! I actually JUST got the exact same lighting for my detolfs today! They look GREAT! And are cheaper than another brand and look exactly the same… beginning to think the well known name brand uses these and rebrands them.
i bought one detolf back when it was $60 i just needed one for displaying my model kits but as of late 2022 i started collecting figures and i had to purchase 2 more detolfs these where the "updated" ones slightly thinner glass etc but they are holding up fine i might get some acrylic shelves to replace the glass ones with just to have that peace of mind or perhaps i won't either way i think these new cabinets are okay but yeah id much rather get a mislbo or however you spell it in the future if needed
I still consider billy to be the best option, better way to display figures so they are all visible, option to buy extra shelves so you can actually organize everything better. I had a Detolf, but when I got the Billy I sold off the detolf and haven’t missed it ones
I agree, bookshelves make great display cases, and I'm surprised I don't see more people use them. Especially since you can get doors for them if you want doors. I think you also get a better bang for your buck with bookshelves.
Just got this today in black color for $79 originally $99 at Ikea in West Covina, CA. It’s funny you said putting the magnets is the hardest part but, mine is so easy lol just screw it one-time using manual screw my hands😅. Anyway, Thank you for the instruction video!
It should be noted that the Detolf has been discontinued before and came back because of demand, so it could happen again. But they are becoming rather expensive for IKEA to manufacture and the new price now takes away a lot of what made Detolfs better than any other glass display case out there (I.E. cheap and affordable vs. higher quality).
Yeah, I am hearding they took it off the market before too. But I don't think at those time they launched a whole new product that looks similar to it. I am hoping they re-release it, but hard to say how long that will be.
This video randomly popped up in my recommended and got me looking on Ikea's site for the first time in a long while. I was floored to see that Detolfs are now $130 USD. I only paid 60 each for 3 of them just over 2 years ago while I happened to be out of town to where I could pick some up.
Same here, I picked up my detolfs 2 years ago and they were only $60 a piece. It's unfortunate that they more than doubled in price, and now I guess will be taken off the market (at least for a short while from what people are saying).
Fantastic vid. I had an idea to take this case and mount it horizontally on the wall using a shelf or across the top of an overhead desk. The door hinges would be facing up so the door would lift upwards and the figures wouldn't need shelves, they could be spread out much nicer. Do you think the black frames are strong enough to support the glass and hinges that way if it were laying sideways/flat?
While it sucks they are ending the Detolf, they've outpriced me on them. I loved them at $70, but I had a hard time justifying $100 even though I needed them. However, at $130, nope, I'm done. This new one does look nicer, but the design flaw you mentioned is a huge issue. Plus, with it being smaller, that would make it tougher for my Haslab Galactus and Sentinels to fit in when they are already snug in the detolf. In your comparison bit, I am confused how you say limited height options is a con when this seems to have more options compared to the detolf.
To clarify the limited height options, for the detolf, you can get aftermarket 3d printed clamps that attach to the metal frame where you can adjust the shelf height. Some people would use metal clamps from a hardware store but this approach scared me since I wouldn’t want to put glass on metal. It is true the Blaliden has twice the amount of height options. But you are forced to use the predrilled holes, and if you want a different height, there isn’t a lot of options other than maybe drilling your own holes into the frame, but I can see this being prone to error. Maybe using 3M tape and installing a wall hook or nub or something that can hold the shelf in each corner could work, as long as the tape stays. I am sure ideas for adjustable shelf’s outside the default options will start popping up.
That's multiple figures for that price compared to a single piece of glass that I can't really do anything with. It sits there and stuff. Not comparable.
I have had my Detolfs for more than 20 years now. I don't "love" them by any means, but they have been the most affordable option and the greatest overall use-case. The truth is that I can't believe Ikea hasn't recognized who exactly buys these things and made a display case more suited for statue and toy collectors with full visibility and maybe better weight limits. I also have a Milsbo and it's fine, but the Milsbo blocks a lot of visibility from the thick black frame and door perimeters.
I agree, for the former price, the detolfs were a steal. And I do agree with the Milsbo having visibility issues. I've seen people stack 2 RUDSTA's on top of each other which happen to have smaller frames, I may try that at some point.
I have a few detolfs. I think that given time, someone will figure out how to improve this newer case. The lack of the ability to add more shelves is a major turn off for me. I don’t have figures, but model cars and planes in mine.
FYI, they have lowered the price of this shelf to $80 which isn’t bad. It’s only $20 more than Detolf was back in the day. Still kicking myself for not grabbing more when my IKEA had them in stock
I think this will be a good display case for Warhammer players, to be honest. It looks like it will go good in a room with the Rudsta line (I use the smaller Rudsta because it also has a convenient army/rulebook shelf on the bottom)
I'd find transparent double-sided tape (a more narrow one, perhaps) and run a whole strip under the aluminium light strips. Just so those white double sided tape cushions wouldn't be so in your face.
Completely agree. Actually, on my own detolfs, I use a full strip of two sided white tape, and it blends into the aluminum channel color that you don't even notice the tape is there. I unfortunately used the two small tape strips provided in the lighting kit for this video. But I can see how they are an eye sore.
$99 is still seems kind of expensive for that. Maybe this is the way things are now these days. One of the lures to Detolf was that they were a cheap case. Then IKEA sold out of them and raised the price by at least double when they got them back. If Blaliden was around $50, it maybe better price for what you get.
Yeah, I can't justify $130 for a detolf. Even at a hundred I was at my breaking point but gave in because I really needed 3 additional cases. I want more, but now it's optional and I'll pass until they go back down in price.
I wish I bought more than just 3 Detolfs back when I first got them several years ago. Had to drive 4 hours to my nearest Ikea though... $64 each was a good price. Now my collection has grown and I have no room for these figures. Why did the price have to go up so much? It's mostly just glass.
this one looks a lot better but the detolf was in the sweet spot of $60 back in the days which made it popular. this one at $100 is not that bad but not a cheap option, if you need several.
initially the blaliden seems great cuz the building process seems so much better than a detolf. it looks also little more robust with a frame. the four glass panel on the detolf tho makes it look flawless. I already own 4 detolfs and is looking to pick 5th one soon in the future but if I were ro start again I might go with blaliden as the frame helps hide the cable from the lights better.
Completely agree, building the Blaliden was super easy with 1 person, compared to the Detolf. And it does look very slick. I do think having options is better. I just wish the Blaliden was slightly bigger, but then again, the Blaliden may be the perfect size if your room lacks space.
I have several display cases, the detolf I got for free (the price new is still way cheaper than US for some reason), it's my least favorite (I got several), they're not study enough, I don't like the inner frame and the door kind of sucks. I also have, I think, a variation of the blaliden, it has like the 4 display spots, but underneath has an empty shelf with no glass and also has legs, looks almost like the blaliden, it's almost the same size, it's ok. I actually like how it takes a bit less scape, when you put the detolfs next to each other there's a fair gap in between. As you said, for smaller figures it's fine. I much prefer other more expensive glass displays I've got, I much prefer a good wooden or metal frame, I got both, it doesn't bother me that they block the view, what does bother me and it may be specific to me; I don't want the shelves to move. I got truck passing in the street and the vibrations move stuff around. They are bigger displays, some have glass behind (love it). I got big figures too, detolf does not cut it. I did see ikea has some other more expensive glass displays. Losing the detolf is no loss for me, any new glass displays I buy/get will be some other brand anyway.
Having moved a lot this looks more solid/stable than the detolf, the detolf is a pain in the butt if you have to move it around your space or worse ship it, basically needs to be fully deconstructed. This one looks like you can take the shelves out, wrap it in a moving blanket and be good. That being said, I like the Detolf more, the frameless design is more appealing, I wish I still had mine, when I sold them the girl who bought them said she couldnt find any white detolfs anymore and I just assumed it was temporary. 😢

I saw someone on Reddit fuse a Rudsta on top of another Rudsta to make a tall display case. I am so tempted to try it myself. I think the Rudsta looks better than the Milsbo, just with it was twice the height.
Great video! Bummer about the Detolf shelves being discontinued. Glad I made it to IKEA (6 hour round trip) just a couple of weeks ago to get the final Detolf I needed to fill my room. It was a little more difficult paying $60 more than all my other ones, but I had to have it. I guess 12 Detolfs will just have to be enough. ;)
Wow indeed. I have only 3 detolfs (And about a giant pile of unopened figure boxes). I've been considering reaching 4, but that would mean changing my PC setup which takes the remaining space in the figure room.

I went today, my Ikea had about 30 of them just sitting there. Also had like 30 billy bookcases.
First time ever I have seen so many of each.
@@Battletide.Terravault is also hella expensive in comparison, more than 10x lol. Oh, and at such a price, I thought it'll include dust proofing. XD
I was just thinking theres no way the glass would support my resins
Wow, you managed to make me sit through an entire video about IKEA furniture, and figures aren't even my hobby. Good editing and pacing my guy! You earned my sub.
the frameless look of the detolf makes it an unreplacable design
Completely agree. I think if the case is wide enough, frames are okay, since most of the real estate is glass. But with the Detolf and Blaliden, it's not that wide, so frames take up a lot of the viewing space. And frameless detolfs just work better for its size. ☺
Yeah but this is a next best thing
@@AlienArteStoreMXyou tightened the screws too much
@@AlienArteStoreMXsays the guy who insisted on assembling his detolf all by himself when its beed well recommended as a two-person job
The Ikea in my country have both of them, with the detolf still at its old pricing: 60usd, while the Blaliden is at 99usd, I think both have their pros and cons, but for the price difference, I think the detolf is still a no brainer
detolf near me is $150 they have raised the price over the years and I've never seen it at $60
@@AlienArteStoreMX you can check Indonesia IKEA, they are listed at 999,000 idr which is the equivalent of 66.43 USD. Sorry if you live in a country where it's listed at 120 USD (the listing in IKEA Indonesia is still up as of this comment 26/07/2023) If it no longer exists after... Then that's just the future and rip detolf
@@AlienArteStoreMX They said near them it's that price. Are you near them? no, i'd bet not.
Thanks to this video, I have set up my BLALIDEN glass showcase. Thank you very much.
Thank you for the directions. It made it a lot easier to put together.
If the new one will keep my figures from dust I think that's more important~
Thanks for the video it was very helpful for me 💕
Glad it was helpful. I do think the Blaliden is easier to dust proof instead of the Detolf.
Ib eally really like your voice. You sound very kind and it is a Joy listening to you.
Ow yes I used those older cases to many time !
Edit - Amazing tutorial👌
Here in Germany a lot of people are giving away their used Detolfs (just because they are afraid to break them while moving apartments) for a couple of years now. I have 5 detolfs (all used, but looked like new except for one that had scratches on the top and bottom boards, but I foiled all of them anyway to get a concrete look), 3 cost me nothing, one cost me 15€ and one 20€. I will not switch and for the environment I suggest people to look for used, cheap/free Detolfs as well.
Yea sure, in Germany 🙄
Besides Price and design, the best point about this new version is, that you can add additional shelves without having to trick with external material
Awesome vid man! Very insightful; I was hesitant about the Blaliden. I dont think i'll purchase it due to its size.
Funny thing is that the Detolf was sold a long time ago at Service Merchandise under a different brand name. We still have it.
Brother, My DETOLF arrived yesterday... the title scared me but it seems like DETOLF was still the way to go for me
It still is even with it's issues
I opted for the Milsbo. They have their pros and cons but ultimately, I like the sturdier design, the wider shelving, adjustable shelving, built-in foot risers and wide array of lighting options. There's also several online companies that produce customization options like additional shelves and hardware, corner shelving, lighting.
How has it worked out for you? I mean, for the price of the Milsbo you get 3 BLÅLIDEN instead, at least here in Spain.
Super well done video. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for this great video. I was liking the ease of assembly and really digging this case until the end with the side by side and angle views.
TBH, I still prefer the detolf because it gives extra room and has a clean viewing angle of your display items.
btw, great video very informative. Thumbs up 👍
Great job and detailed explanations. Thanks a lot! 👋🏻💪🏻✌🏻
great video! i really like the video editing! its so slick and conveys the information really well!
I wish they would do plexiglass shelves like this I just hate glass . Awesome video!
I love the quality of your videos. Keep it up.
Went to buy 3 more detolfs today and saw they are donzo, think I will try grab some used.
Too bad.
Exactly what I wanted to see 👏😎👍 great comparison video 🎉
Fantastic video, well done!! I think Detolf's are better than this, but I think Ikea pays little attention to what their products are actually used FOR. Because in terms of figure displaying, this feels like a step backwards unfortunately.
Detolf is notorious for spontaneous glass shattering, so it feels like all this framing is meant to prevent that, which I am all for. Otherwise, I expect the Detolf aftermarket to explode with used units on FB Marketplace et al, so win-win.
It already has. Not just FB but ebay too.
I recommend the black v channels from Luke lights
Thanks for making this review i was actually considering buying the BLALIDEN but i think i'll stick with the MILSBO.
i bought one detolf back when it was $60 i just needed one for displaying my model kits but as of late 2022 i started collecting figures and i had to purchase 2 more detolfs these where the "updated" ones slightly thinner glass etc but they are holding up fine i might get some acrylic shelves to replace the glass ones with just to have that peace of mind or perhaps i won't either way i think these new cabinets are okay but yeah id much rather get a mislbo or however you spell it in the future if needed
Billy is my favorite as well but it just makes something feel a little more special behind a glass case.
My local ikea still sells them, but at a whopping price of $130 usd which is more than double what I paid for a couple years ago ($60)
Just got this today in black color for $79 originally $99 at Ikea in West Covina, CA. It’s funny you said putting the magnets is the hardest part but, mine is so easy lol just screw it one-time using manual screw my hands😅. Anyway, Thank you for the instruction video!
is the screw slots how you adjust the panel sizes? If you can adjust the height of each shelf then I like it better than detolf.
Man I’m going to have to get a third party detolf style case as I want it for replica titles, thanks for the video this was helpful
That’s what I was thinking. I have 14 titles atm and wanted to buy detolfs and now I can’t. This looks way to small 😭
This is a great video I now have the display I’m going to get for my Giants fan cave 💪🏿💪🏿
Nice review, thanks! It looks better than the Detolf, shame that it smaller.
You spend hundreds per figure, but the $130 display cabinet is deal breaker for you?
That's multiple figures for that price compared to a single piece of glass that I can't really do anything with. It sits there and stuff. Not comparable.
Nice video. Definitely sticking with detolfs
Aah im so glad i bought 2 extra detolf just in case while they were on sale 😢
FYI, they have lowered the price of this shelf to $80 which isn’t bad. It’s only $20 more than Detolf was back in the day. Still kicking myself for not grabbing more when my IKEA had them in stock
Wow, thanks for bringing this to my attention, that is pretty awesome they dropped the price.
I like Billy w/ Oxhorn. I'm just fond of old-fashioned cabinets.
But I can see how they are an eye sore.
love the honkai 3rd figures at 6:11
I finally got the thing put together, God speed.
Same here, it’s nice but I’m going to need to mod it up a little
Plachta sighting at 4:58! Best part of the video.
$99 is still seems kind of expensive for that. Maybe this is the way things are now these days. One of the lures to Detolf was that they were a cheap case. Then IKEA sold out of them and raised the price by at least double when they got them back. If Blaliden was around $50, it maybe better price for what you get.
On the other hand, other display cases this size are MUCH more expensive. This is still quite cheap.
Yeah, I can't justify $130 for a detolf. Even at a hundred I was at my breaking point but gave in because I really needed 3 additional cases. I want more, but now it's optional and I'll pass until they go back down in price.
Oh! I love that lighting in the case.
I wish I bought more than just 3 Detolfs back when I first got them several years ago. Had to drive 4 hours to my nearest Ikea though... $64 each was a good price. Now my collection has grown and I have no room for these figures. Why did the price have to go up so much? It's mostly just glass.
this one looks a lot better but the detolf was in the sweet spot of $60 back in the days which made it popular. this one at $100 is not that bad but not a cheap option, if you need several.
looks easier to build , i had to have someone help me build the detolf but seems i could build this new one solo
Glad i bought 4 of my detolfs at 59.99 and the other 2 for 79.99. The current price mark up of 129.99 is aggrigious
initially the blaliden seems great cuz the building process seems so much better than a detolf. it looks also little more robust with a frame. the four glass panel on the detolf tho makes it look flawless.
Thanks, this was really helpful!
I kinda like the detolf better. The frame on the smaller shelf just looks too thick and makes the figures look more crammed in
This kinda feels like that one seen in deadpool with blind al assembling ikea furniture, but with zero whiny wade.
Another amazing and thought out video! I didn’t even know about this case till this video! Thanks so much for putting so much hard work into it! I love your videos ❤ I’m so happy I say your channel 😊 keep up the amazing work
Nice display. May I ask where did you get the tree on the right and panel divider from? I could do with those myself :)
I got the tree here:
www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01944OFTY/
It's no longer available, but hopefully it gives you a place to start.
And the room divider can be found here:

For beginners I recommend the Ikea Rudsta
I saw someone on Reddit fuse a Rudsta on top of another Rudsta to make a tall display case. I am so tempted to try it myself. I think the Rudsta looks better than the Milsbo, just with it was twice the height.
@@Battletide. I have a video I posted some time ago Ikea Rudsta Mega Modified Cabinet. It's not a hard project and it turned out rather nice
Ninguan looks great in the smaller case
Great video! Bummer about the Detolf shelves being discontinued. Glad I made it to IKEA (6 hour round trip) just a couple of weeks ago to get the final Detolf I needed to fill my room. It was a little more difficult paying $60 more than all my other ones, but I had to have it. I guess 12 Detolfs will just have to be enough. ;)
Wow, that is a lot of detolfs! And yeah, surprising how much they increased in price over the last few years.
Wow indeed. I have only 3 detolfs (And about a giant pile of unopened figure boxes). I've been considering reaching 4, but that would mean changing my PC setup which takes the remaining space in the figure room.
The Blaliden is easier to assemble but the Detolf id definitely more elegant for displaying
I really hope they make the detolf again 😢
