Pingu is a masterpiece, made in stop motion genius work, everything built to perfection with so simple techniques and limited resources with not that much people. Pingu creates a great storytelling technique, it lacks dialogue and script, this makes Pingu use only body movement and gibberish to communicate, and it’s magnificent, Pingus body movement is genius, we can understand what’s going on by simply the pose of Pingu, and since he’s a stretchy boi he expands more on body movement, when he stretches and grows taller or when he falls flat to show he is feeling sad. and since it doesn’t appeal to any language, Pingu is universal. The settings in the south pole and characters remain timeless since it doesn’t focus on a specific location nor time, Simple but extraordinarily great. Pingu is an underrated masterpiece of animation, with great animation, storytelling and settings that will remain timeless.
delta sparkle six yeah especially because you didn't need to be an English speaker or understand any language to watch Pingu, it was for all audiences of all ages lol
Sad that this is a dying art these days. Stop motion is way better than computer graphics for children's shows. The men who painstakingly created the magic of Pingu deserve respect and admiration of all Pingu fans in every corner of the world.
I agree that they should be more appreciated for their work, but I completely disagree with saying stop motion is better than computer-animated cartoons Sure it’s easier to use, but it looks absolutely amazing when used
@ I'm sure it takes a lot of time and looks so much more smoother than some of today's 3D animated kids shows. But to be honest imo i think 3D has made far better material, some kids shows like Kung Fu Panda, How to Train Your Dragon and more look amazing in 3D. I really don't think it's "most" of them. There are really a lot that shine through with amazing 3D animation. I'm sure stop motion is hard to go through and takes a lot of time and the end result is amazing. But to be honest I prefer 3D animation, it looks way smoother. So yeah, *just an opinion*
@ you're also forgetting that people put a lot of passion into their 3D work too. Look at some of the behind the scenes of Moana. They were clearly passionate about it a lot.
What a great footage, I watched a lot of Pingu when I was a little child but never understood properly the amount of effort put in every single episode. Props to everyone who worked for this series.
Pingu was a huge part of my early years, even now it is astronomically better than many childrens modern shows. The penguins acting out relatable and entertaining scenes in their snowly world was and is some of the most entertaining storytelling.
Yeah, it's a form of stop-motion where pieces of a character have a new sculpture for each frame (ie, different head, different jaw shape, different hair) as opposed to just having one puppet they manipulate. George Pal's shorts did that a lot, where every frame was a new puppet carved from wood or had a head with a different mouth shape.
wow this cartoon is indeed a worldwide thing! as a kid i thought it was something only from brazil but as time passed i've seen people from all around the world referencing, thank you very much for posting that, made my day
All I can say is thank you for making my childhood enjoyable. Now my little daughter loves to see the same pingu. Pingu will be loved forever for generations.
Now that is interesting. Funny when you're tiny, you believe these characters are real. I used to believe Fireman Sam was real. Stop motion requires so much patience and dedication, as does hand drawn animation. Plus, it looks like only a couple of people worked on this. This is pure skill, unlike a lot of CGI outside Pixar or DreamWorks.
I'm doing VFX at university and a large part of it is CGI, for my first 2 minute animated sequence with my own models and rigs it's taken about a month and I haven't even got to rendering, it's a difficult job to do but rewarding none the less. I've done a few stop motion films in the past and I'd say they're on par, both require lots of planning but you're correct in the fact that stop motion mistakes are harder to correct, although sometimes the difficulty of 3d isn't correcting the problem itself but whether you have enough time to fix it and render it out again, time is always a factor with everything.
So what we learned today is that when you watch Pingu walk there's actually about two dozen of him that we're actually seeing. Every frame is a different modeled Pingu until the cycle comes back to his other foot
It's always a treat to watch the hand drawn & stop motion animation. There's a separate charisma in that type of animation. I love it any day over CG animation.
