I have a bunch of tongue and groove boards i just found, so I was looking for plans. Glad I found this tho so I can see that how big I make it matters. Thank you.
Thank you , the house we bought has a bat coloney in the attic, I bought a large bat box . I don't want to oust these bats but I want to redirect them and give them a better option. I love bats they eat they're weight in bugs every night ....a large amount of those bugs are mosqito's. I have always lived with bats around I love them.
Great video. I was asked to make a few bat houses for a friend and was curious about style and sizing. I also liked your cleat mounting system.... nice idea.
We've had bats in our attic and finally were able to get them out. we put up a bat house in a large tree close to where they were in our house. How can we get them to use the bat house we put up in a tree. A question, if we put the house on our chimney, what do you do with their feces? Does it drop to the ground and then clean it up? We live in central Florida and love watching them at dusk and early in the morning.
Thank you so much for giving the bats a safe home! We typically caution against using trees for two primary reasons. The first one is that the branches will shade the BatBnB and prevent it from getting 6+ hours of direct sunlight per day (the most important factor affecting occupation chances). The second one is that the branches will act as a perch for predators which can turn your BatBnB into a death trap for roosting bats once they exit the unit. If there are not many branches on the tree, these may not pose as much of an issue. Chimneys are usually excellent places for bat houses, but just make sure that there is about 12 of unobstructed area beneath the bat house for the bats to exit safely. (If there if a roof ledge close underneath it could block the bats from exiting and render the bat house unoccupied). Here's a video we made to help answer bat dropping questions! ua-cam.com/video/aI_dEmD8PUI/v-deo.html The bat droppings will usually wash off in the rain and we recommend hanging your bat house over a low-traffic garden bed so that the droppings act as a fertilizer for the plants beneath. :)
Oh sorry about that- I do hope this helps give you ideas for the size to make your bat house though! Size is the most important factor for bat house success according to bat experts. :) Glad you like them though! Best of luck making it! Also we have some free resources for how/where to hang your bat house if that’s helpful :)
In the Northeast, bats will use bat houses as a summer home and will go elsewhere for the winter. You can choose to bring the bat house down during the winter if you want, or they can stay up. Bat houses can definitely be successful in the Northeast!
Great question! Typically no, bats usually prefer to hibernate in caves or mines or to migrate further south. Bats will most frequently use bat houses in the spring after they emerge from hibernation, and during the fall and spring as migratory stops and even nursery colonies. If you have any other questions please feel free to ask! :)
@@roberthernandez782 Yes but it’s ideal to put your bat house about 20 feet away from major tree branches where the owls and hawks could perch- that way the bats have time to evade them while exiting.
We are proud of our bat houses. They are designed with the 40 years of research expertise by bat expert Merlin Tuttle. They are also made out of sustainable lumber, to prioritize healthy lumber practices. They are the most bat-friendly design, and nice looking bat house you'll find. We understand that they aren't at everyone's price point, but they are premium and you get what you pay for.
That is definitely not a fun experience, but we are encouraging the protection of bats in the wild because they do serve a very important purpose. We are sorry to hear that you had a negative experience with them. We hope that can change for you.

Did it work?
Awesome. Thank you. Subscribed.
We appreciate you!

Bat's don't like tree hung houses for some reason. Best to put it up high on your house or on a pole no less than 14' above ground (20' pole).

Any info on southern Baja? It’s extreme varied temperatures here. Summer is brutal.. any advice greatly appreciated!🙏🏽😇
We have a blog about bat houses in warmer climates: batbnb.com/blogs/blog/keeping-your-bat-house-cool-in-warmer-climates
I was hoping for plans, not pre-made. Nice houses, though.

Hi Brian, if you are still looking for bat house plans. You should check out Merlin Tuttle's new Bat House Guide
thank you. for share .
How big should the entry area be?
How well do these work in the North East? We have mid and often harsh winters

Cool 🦇
tried to make one and i totally failed. Wish i would've taken woodshop class in school.
It can be a challenge. That's why we are here! ;)
Will the bats hibernate the bat house in Michigan winter

@@BatBnB I do have another question. Is it safe to have a bat house and owl house in the same small backyard?

Dear God! These are over $200!!!?!? Why?? It’s a wooden box!! That’s crazy man, my $30 one from Amazon has served me well for years now. Wow.
Got that bloody right mate, they're ripping people!
Actually, no. It’s not just a wooden box. It is a design optimized for the survival of and attraction of bats.
@@maxsparks5183they just gave us the design too!

These same principles apply for bat houses in tropical regions?
It depends where, because a lot of tropical bats are fruit eaters and those bats do not use bat houses.
How much are these?
We have different designs with different pricing. Check them out here: www.batbnb.com/shop
So an apt mailbox...
Size matters when it comes to the effectiveness of bat houses.
I am Vietnams bat houses ok
You'll have to check with experts in your are. We are unfamiliar with how bat houses work in Vietnam.
They are proud of their boxes. Way too expensive.

My sympathies. But your comment makes me wonder why humans are protected.
It's a wild animal. You should expect nothing less. In the meantime, maybe educate yourself on the important role they play in our ecosystem.
I used to enjoy watching the bat fly around my house. He’d go out at night and come back in the morning
