Bats are more closely related to horses than mice. They are part of an order called Pegasoferae that includes horses, cats and dogs, cows, whales and hedgehogs
Also, you failed to mention that they should be mounted between 10-30 feet up. Bats can't just fly way like birds, so they fall in order to gain speed then they fly away.
I thought this too but it's not entirely true. I'm sure they prefer it but I've personally had a bat on my floor take two good flaps from my living room floor and come right at my face with very little difficulty
I have a place at 9800' in the Colorado Rockies. We have several families of bats that roost under the clapboard siding, only about 7 feet up. Been their since we bought the place 24 years ago, and they show no sign of slowing down.
Bat's are perfectly able to start flying from about 4 feet up. I have them all over the walls in my shed that is 6 1/2 feet tall. When I look in there I even see some at belly button level. They drop a little bit but nothing dramatic like you're claiming.

Great video. We have a bat house with 5 chambers which is rated to house 500 bats. We have had 50 bats in the past. One other important note to touch on would be the height to install the bat 🦇 house. They need to be installed 12 to 15 feet off of the ground or higher so when the bats drop out of the house they can properly fly out. If not it won't work. Great video. Thanks. God bless. 😎 👍 🙏

I don't really have a mounting option except for on a tree. I know that's not ideal, but if I trim the branches around it in all directions, and have as few branches everywhere as possible, do people think the bats might still reside in it?? (It's an old cedar tree, and I can trim quite a bit around it to make it quite barren around the bat house itself.)
I've found bats in hollow trees before. If it's all you have, go for it. They're more prone to predators so if you do, put one up that has a longer cavity for them to get deep enough for bats to be out of arms reach of raccoons. Snakes are most likely your main predator in trees but chances are far slimmer than a raccoon

I was able to pull the pole vertical with help from a retired lineman. I back filled the hole with crushed stone. Once it was set & plumb. I tamped it tight with larger stones. I drilled holes from the bottom 18” up on opposing sides for old steel pole steps from old poles. I ran them up the pole to the top or 17 feet up. I predrilled holes for my old pole hardware to mount the bat condo to. I rigged a block to the top of the pole & raised it up to the top. Well it’s warmer in a cave in the winter than outside!
@@Buckeye_4_Life_ do they give birth in wintertime while hibernating? i know they give birth in caves.. synchronise it.. but not sure when , do they give birth early spring.. think it must be.. they rest while the infant grows in their sleep probably..
@@Roonnam Not sure about any of that.
cousin of the mouse? I just watched a documentary saying they are related closer to primates than rodents, another show said they related to animals like the horse and our local fish and game said something else.
Who cares? There bats
We are related with mouse, primates and horse. Bats too. But who is most close related with bats? Horses and hippos
I don’t think bats in North Carolina will appreciate 92 degrees in the S end of my house…
Worried that one of my cats would probably, most likely, climb the pole and try his best to eat/kill them and blow my whole purpose of trying to help them. Also there is a bridge, small, that is in Houston TX and over 250,000 bats live under the bridge with traffic crossing all the time, and yes its over water BUT cars are plenty crossing over all the time so I dont think much on when he stated "away from traffic". Peace
Aren't bats closer to whales than mice?
Bats eat millions and millions of insects every day? I thought they only came out at night.
Most days have 24 hours, some of which are usually dark. If you were going for humor, you failed. I'd let it go, but I'm in a bad mood tonight.
0:35 really? Seriously, how do you know this? Who's counting?Did you put a little camera on a bat's head to count the bugs going in their mouth?
It's a known fact. Google it. A single bat can eat up to 6,000 - 8,000 mosquito sized bugs a night.
@3:04 'Murica
Bats are more closely related to humans than to mice...
Exactly. The only thing bats have in common with rodents is that they are small and they are mammals.
Cool fact! But how?
can you have a bat as a pet
Bats are about as closely related to rodents as we are. Not particularly close.
Shark tank brought me here...
Bats are actually more closely related to humans and primate species than they are to rodents...
Bats aren't rodents.
Bats are not closely related to mice 😂 more related to pangolins and whales. People just think they look alike but its been debunked
also beta.
