Card Services scammer tries to sell 0% interest

- Julie is back to take on a phone scammer who is trying to offer a credit card with 0% interest rate and a minimum payment of $1/month! Wow, what a deal!

Note to self, keep ear plugs and an air horn handy. When they call, speak very softly so they are forced to turn up their volume, give 4 fake digits so you know they are listening closely then blast the air horn close to the microphone.
She is the most polite scam baiter in the world! The scammers probably watch these videos for training purposes. Here they can learn each and everything! She so cute her partner is lucky!

There are real cards and lines like this or better. Use PayPal or an amazon store card for example and you can get >=6 mo no interest or payments. There are fees if you don’t pay it by then and they get a large haircut of the transaction as merchant services. It’s pretty common and more widely available than just those offerings. There’s business banking contexts that can be better deals for financing for significantly upwards of a $100k etc. Pretty much all of this is proven to be profitable if managed correctly. You don’t need to have an edge just from the interest rate perspective or even from the person being given access to capital to make money. Common misconception. This call specifically is obviously all types of suspect lol, just saying more generically.
Indian accent is a red flag itself.

All I do when I get a scam call. I get my air horn ready and blow on the mic and they hang up. 😅
Keep it up. At least somebody is trying to protect us. I call them back and mess with them. I get this call at least 4 times a day.

Tell them "I believe in carrying large amounts of cash" pause while they tell you that's a bad idea. Then say "sometimes I carry $15 to $20!" Guaranteed to get dead silence on the other end of the line

I like asking them general questions about the city they're supposedly calling from. Even "what time is it there?" is met with frantic googling on their end.

Most of these calls are scams. You must remember alot of legit companies who hire middle eastern companies to handle their call center have eccents including middle eastern. ie...Capital Finance, tmobil, and several other entities. If you are unsure always ask to speak to an American.
If you live in Silicon Valley you can't. It's 90% indians now.

The sad part is that this is also done right here in the U.S with local call centers practicing same methods to scam people. The elderly and shut-in's are particularly vulnerable. I hope they are discovered and shut down and prosecuted. You are doing a good job with the overseas calls. 👍
They use American numbers but are not in country usually
i work for a credit card company and we never call our customers offering a lower APR on their cards
How would an outside company have the authority to give me a lower interest rate on a card held by my bank. You can only lower rates on a card offered by your company; you do not have access to the banks personal contracts; that is illegal. So, of course you don't offer lower APR on cardholders from other financial institutions.
Same lol we never ask for personal info when calling our customers

I had these guys call me and they were very aggressive with trying to extract my cc #. I knew right away they were a scam since noblegit companies ask for all the #rs. So I had fun with him for 30 minutes pretending I was a foreigner with a thick accent who was going off topic every 2 mins. I finally gave him bogus #rs he then cussed me out and hung up. I say a a job well done on my end as well as on your end for educating people on these individuals that prey on the elders.
The BIGGEST Red Flag is that you think that it's the local curry shop is calling you about your recent take-out order mishap...

I get two or three of these calls every day. I give them fake info every time. It's great.
It’s rather amazing these scam call centers don’t have time limits on a call. They don’t realize what to do when they encounter a counter-scammer and burn time on a unproductive call and in turn make for a unproductive day.

I still get calls from "card services" on a regular basis. I mess with these people every time they call. They are such idiots. Every time they ask me about which card has the highest interest rate, or ask me if I have a visa or mastercard, I just ask them how do they not already know if they say they know my payment history. What throws them off is when I tell them that my card is with "example" (Wells Fargo) and I ask them why is my bank giving them personal information about my accounts. I generally ask them to hold while I check something on the stove or go to the restroom and stay away for as much as ten minutes. They want money, so they will always wait. Then after giving them three or four fake card numbers, they get frustrated and then I tell them that I know they are scammers, and they hang up. It is just a little revenge to play with them.
I see that the real BBB is hiring beautful fashion models. HEART.

I had one of these call me, I played along until... "I just need to verify your card number."
Me: "Okay, go ahead."
Them: "Sir, I need you to tell me what your card number is so I can verify your account."
Me: "Right. Since you have my account open in front of you, tell me what you have, and I'll tell you if it's right."
Them: "No, sir, I cannot give out that information over the phone."
Me: "Just the first four numbers, then? I'll give you the second four, you do the third set, and I'll do the last four?"
Them: [says four numbers at random]
Me: "Yep! [says four more random numbers]"
Them: "Wait, read back the first four again?"
Me: "Why? You got them right, let's move on. Next four?"
Them: "Fuck you, asshole." [hangs up]
That was a good play. Many credit cards start with the same first four. Mastercard starts with 5 and Visa starts with 4.

The worst part about this scam is this is entirely predicated on taking advantage of people desperate to reduce their credit card bills.
There's no way a random company is going to be so benevolent as to take over payments for you but if you're desperate, you might fall for it.
Biggest red flags to me were not only the ones you mentioned at the end of the video but also that he said his last name was Macintosh & that you could pay $1 a month.
Like come on now, you gotta be real stupid/gullible to think you can pay $1 a month.
Btw you had me dying when you said “oh I could do a lot of shopping at Target” Idky I found that so funny but it made me burst into laughter! 🤣

I always keep scammers on the line for as long as possible without giving them any info in hopes that’s I’ve wasted so much of their time that it’ll give them less time to call more people. I'm reminded of an SNL skit from the early 90s. The name of the bank was something like "The National Change Bank of America". Their whole job was to make change for people. So if you had a dollar you could get four quarters or twenty nickels or whatever. Near the end an employee said, "People ask us how we can make money doing this. The answer is simple. Volume".

All my parents ever got on their landline was scam calls, despite being on the National Do Not Call Registry, and, whenever I got bored while I was home alone, I'd screw around with the scammers, just to waste their time and get some good laughs.

I get about 10 calls a day from them. They get really upset when you ask them what kind of scam they are running.
Hilarious,this same scammer phoned me just recently and said he was based in Leeds and the company was called Credit services. After half hour he gave up😂😂😂😂😂😂

I have gotten several calls from this scam using local spoofed numbers... I play along for a few minutes before confronting them, I then get cussed out for wasting their time, so I will waste more of their time laughing at them and ripping on then... wasting even more of their time.... I enjoy wasting their time...
I just got my weekly zero percent interest rate phone call. When I tell them that I have a lifetime 0% interest rate, they ask me how I do that. "I never carry a balance" I say. Click, end of phone call.
I get a call like this at least once a week, "This is a call from your credit card company," and I just hang up. Not visa, not mastercard, not the bank name. I knew it was a scam. Thank you. 💕

When I get these calls and they go through their "song and dance" and then ask me what bank issued my card, I tell them that my bank is the "First Nation Bowel Movement Bank of Diarrhea, North Dakota". That really sets them off!
"I work for Visa. You don't have Visa? I forgot that today is Tuesday. On Tuesdays I work for Mastercard."

Here is a way to throw them for a loop. At the beginning of the call while they are bragging about how good your credit is and how well you have been paying ask them this simple question "What is my name?" they will not know what to say or do. Gets them every time.
