Welcome to the "I cried over a boat" club! When I first watched my tears started when Merry said "I want to sail" to Iceburg, and they didn't stop for a while (like the whole night). 8 years later I still cry every time 😢

Merry's "I'm sorry" is always where I break out ugly crying, even after 5 frickin years of watching and reading one piece. And I'm sure it's almost the same for everybody else too. This show is the best.

Something I noticed only recently when watching reactions to this ep that made this episode so much better for me:
Merry didn't just break when the Galley La ship came, she bowed her head specifically to Iceberg, to the man who she asked a favor and owed her deepest gratitude. She held on because she wanted to save her friends, and when she saw him she knew they'd be okay to reach shore and was able to finally let herself rest.
Also, Franky was one of the ones crying the hardest, despite not knowing Merry well. He cried because he knew as a shipwright how well cared for she must've been, and was touched by the love a ship must've been given to speak like that for so long.
THISS-- I rarely see anyone mention this!! That was a BRILLIANT touch. :') When I first watched it I was like "wait is she bowing to thank them??" aghhh I'm crying again

This is the one, I been waiting for this episode. It always makes me cry no matter how much I watch it, for me another top 10 one piece episodes, And would you believe it The arc still isn't finished still has some more fire up it's sleeves.

Merry got a Viking Funeral, in their culture Ships were considered member of the crew and they would sank their ships by burning them and watch them sink to the bottom of the sea, also as far as we know Merry's Funeral was the only time Oda cryed while drawing the One Piece Manga

And this is why I needed to go get a paper towel...I'm a mess every single time I see this episode-emotional damage to this day. It's emotionally AND physically draining, which I think shows perfectly how talented Oda Sensei is at crafting a story, and plucking at peoples' heartstrings. I said a while ago, Oda likes to go for the jugular. ...Oh! The song playing during is actually the ending theme for the arc...would love to see you react to it in time

Unfortunately, we now know that Luffy made the right decision in Water 7 when he discussed with usopp. If they had stayed on the ship, it would have sunk before reaching any islands, putting the crew in a dangerous situation.

The line where Luffy mentions how Usopp tried to fix her, just hits me everytime. It was the crew’s love for Merry that pushed her along on this epic journey 😢

The Gally LA people (even if some of them were "fake") werent lying unfortunately. The ship would not reach the next island - well sort of. Merry actually surpassed her limits travelling to Enis Lobby and saving the day - what a brave and tenacious little ship she was :(

They're surprised because they already given up on a ship they thought was a ship. This time they had to let go of a Nakama. RIP Merry.
Edit: Also, Zoro not showing emotion does not mean he doesn't have them. He always understood that he was always clumsy with the human factor so he tends to shy away from it. That is why often in emotional events, he tends to be away from the group. It is why he understands that Luffy is the Captain since the ability to express empathy is important and why he remains the right hand man. It is also why he respects Usopp so much since he can show emotions that Zoro can't. It does not mean that he is not caring though and his support for someone like Usopp or Chopper in this arc is the way he expresses it. He shows his care in the way he knows how...through his swords. JMO.

I cried so hard with you Mozy, This is what One Piece is all about; it's much deeper than just a surface "FRIENDSHIP :) :) :)" it's a true bond between others that creates such power and love and instills in us such humility and wonder for this world. These bonds aren't just human to human, our pets, our plants, even crafted or natural things (ships, or even minerals) can run deep within us. I'm in my feels hard here lol
When Mr. Merry give the ship, he already told us Merry is an old ship, so I know we have to say farewell one day, but my heart still burn into nothing with Merry.
When a little hope shows up you feels like you want to try again thats why luffy and the others reacted the way, a ship that the were already given up on just shows up and saved their lives.
Respect for this guy.
A small detail that I love and some people overlook is that Merry only broke down after the Galley-La ship arrived. She took them as far as she could and made sure her crew was safe before she finally felt it was okay to succumb to the irreversible damage she took over the course of the story. I never thought I would cry over a ship, but here we are.

Most if not all one piece fans truly loves merry, yet there some people and reactors thinks that this is stupid to have a ship talk and have feelings but i really think this is one of if not the beautiful concepts i've seen in all fictional medias. To have a ship a piece of wood develop feelings and have a spirit because of how much care it had and how much love her owners gave her to have a spirit of it own and sail on itself that’s alone is enough to make me love this story even though it's weird but man oda created such a weird an absurd idea and gave it its own story and this is how he thought of it and i remember reading that oda himself was crying while drawing this scene. i love the scene at the beginning where Chop and Luf are searching for Usopp, usually Chopper chills on everyone else, like sitting on zoros head i mean , but here Luffy is actually sitting on chopper and relying on him but also .....

And as far as yelling at Zoro to show emotion I'm not sure if you've been aware but he changed after Mihawk. I know it was only 20 or so episodes before that but he used to laugh and smile and even on occasion cry.

I am someone that cries at certain points of special movies... like the best parts of Lord of the rings trilogy, for example. But for some reason, the massive amount of recaps in One Piece isnt moving me at all. The first time a flashback is shown, ok, yes, that gets me, but recaps like that with the merry... dont feel like it. Maybe its the japanese singer in the background...
Btw, Mozy, did u watch the Lord of the Rings trilogy? In my opinion, its the best movie trilogy humans have created so far, easily beating crazy gems like Star Wars, Hunger games and Harry Potter. And did u watch any of them? If not, i recommend watching one or all of these movies if u have time and feel like u wanna take a little break from One Piece (For 1 or 2 days or 1-2 Weeks, depends on ur time shedule.).
