@@kevincroft5246 I guess the difference is the control in the pace. Even when we binge, we can rest from reading/watching when we are controlling our own schedule. When we have to read/watch not at our schedule, but the schedule of people following the channel, it becomes much more difficult. This is even more so when one has to edit, re-watch your own content to review, and create additional narrative to provide the proper intro/outro. Its the fans that often drag a manga author down as they demand more content faster than the creator can make it. For the same reason I am happy to let Oda rest those weeks there are no chapters so that he avoids burnout, I will be happy for Mozy to upload content at the pace he feels is most appropriate. JMO.

Watching Chopper risk his life to get a cure, only to find out he poisoned his father figure was so painful to watch. Oda really knows how to show despair in so many ways.

I love the reference where hiruluk said to chopper that he can be a doctor coz he has a kind heart and then slapped by the truth when kureha said he can't become one just by being kind.

Doctor Hiriluk is top 5 most tragic deaths in One Piece for sure. His final speech "When does a person die? When they're shot? NO. When they eat a poison mushroom? NO. A person dies when they are forgotten." After losing my father in 2020 this makes it one of my top 3 speeches in the series.
This arc as a whole has a huge message about inherited will, and death as a whole. Take mental notes of Hiriluks speech, and the actions others did for him, these themes come up over and over again and even 1040+ chapters in we still don't understand all of it(That's not a spoiler is it? I personally don't see it as one since there isn't an answer..).
It was tragic but he went off with a BANG like anyone would want their death. So, I think that's a big W.
He didn't die, he will live on until we forget about him.
i first saw that scene over 15 years ago and i'll never forget it, this scene is so iconic and real, i lost my grampa when i was 15 and he was also my best friend and role model, sadly hes gone too soon, but as long as we remember him and talk about him from time to time, hes never really forgotten, his spirit still lives on as a happy peaceful man with our family. Fuck cancer fr.
Love to see new people coming to the One Piece world! It doesn't matter how many times I've seen or read a sad One Piece moment, I always have tears running down my face... The connection created with the characters is unlike any other anime/manga!
I have a 6 year, joy boy who I rewatched with cried so hard from this point on. The kid felt it. He said to me, I love you and stay with him for the rest of his life. I am 41. This show is over 1000 episodes long and I think I rewatched it like close to 500 time. Still can’t get enough. Now I am rewatching it through other reactions. Priceless!
Love it! One Piece brings so much joy it becomes part of ones life if they enjoy it and are invested. I too have watched it multiple times and it always gives something to look forward to Oda is a blessing

Basically when he told the story of the thief, remember he said the thief seen the cherry blossoms and then went to another doctor and they said he was cured. Then he made a comment saying that by elevating the patients mental and emotional state, he was able to elevate his physical state. Kind of like how they say healing starts in the mind, like u get injured and u shouldn’t stress about it but just focus on recovering or how the girl in kill bill willed her toe to move even though she dead ass couldn’t feel her legs. So he was trying to imitate the cherry blossoms to lift the spirits of the people and save the country. And chopper is a kid so even though he overheard the conversation he still probably never fully understood, he just knew dad’s sick and needs medicine, and he knows there’s some type of mushroom for it. He looked in the book and saw the skull and thought that was gonna be the right one because the skull means nothing is impossible, and to fight for what you believe in like what hiruluk said about pirates and the pirate flag, so chopper being naive got the mushroom and the doctor couldn’t let his efforts go to waste, so he ate the mushroom and killed himself with a bomb, so that his death wouldn’t be choppers fault

Well, here we see Oda fully mastery of flashbacks that he tested with Zoro and Sanji in the Baratie then perfected with Nami in Arlong Park and is a stample for the series to this day. Everyone gets really excited for the flashbacks sections and god have some tissues with you because Oda likes to hurt us.
Chopper backstory is beautiful, the Doctor is a real one and will not be forgoten

The thing that gets me here is, that even though the characters might look silly you still bond with them.
I get more emotionally attached to a character I know for 2-3 episodes then some main protagonists in other animes lol
These backstory characters in one piece are SO FUCKING AWESOME AND MEMORABLE. Bellemere, hiriluk, Tom, Saul, Zeff, Etc. Can't think of a single anime that does it like one piece.

The moment that got me in this arc is when Chopper said, "Because... because... there's no disease in this world that can't be cured!"
Despite Kureha saying that not all disease can be cured earlier in the episode, he still said that line with hope.
I like how theres no such thing as an all purpose medicine, but he decided to be the all purpose doctor. Which makes a lot of sense.

P.s. Wapol is widely considered the shittiest (as in lamest) villain in all of One Piece so this arc is towards the bottom of many peoples ranking. In other words, buckle up brother. Pika pika.
I am sticking with you on your run. You’re the only reactor that reacted similar to how I reacted with this arc. I never cried over any form of media but I am all caught up with one piece and I am betting it made me cry 25 to 30 times. Chopper and Dr. Hiruluk drenched my eyes and filled my heart.
Ps: Dr. Hiruluk exploded himself in order for his cause of death not to be by eating chopper’s mushroom, “your medicine didn’t kill me chopper.”. Everything about this arc/ backstory was perfect, cheers to more ;)

Hell yeah brother, this show is insane. It also goes to prove how you can hate more on the "weaker" villains, but they're actually greater villains in a sense, because you see their abuse against the innocent good ordinary people, instead of Z fighters like Luffy and Zoro.

Just a curiosity fact, the same seiyu (voice actor) that voice Dr. Kureha is the same one that does Goku on the DBZ. Just like Krilin is the same one that voice Luffy.
